The problem is that when the 3 was introduced it was a hard shot that people weren't used to taking and making. Only a few guys could hit it at a rate that was worth even trying. More players practice it now, and it's become too easy to hit. Especially the corner 3. The stats point to the reality that you're better off getting really good at that than developing any other skill if you're not some sort of stud playmaker.
Now what do you do? Move the corner 3 back any further and you're almost off the court. So you gotta widen the court and change every arena in the league to accommodate that? That's not trivial.
If the 3 ball were a harder shot, it would be a less efficient shot and analytics as well as common sense would diminish it's value once again.
Love #s so analytics have never been the problem, they incited changes that have made the NBA product "different".
All these suggestions won't happen bc of all the necessary changes to courts, arenas, etc. Currently, it's way too easy to shoot a 3 so make it harder by decreasing the 3pt area. Put on your imagination cap
2 lines that make the sides of the key, extend them to connect to the other side's same lines. You can only earn 3 pts for a shot within the lines of the lane and beyond the current 3 pt line.
