i'm happy for obi, it's hard to showcase your talent in only 13 minutes per game.

I'm sure they'll play in a few all-star games together

I mean we all knew that sht was gonna happen. "Juuuust a bit outside!" - Bob Uecker
All things considered that's quite probably the best overall way to fck up our draft position. With Obi absolutely going ballistic and giving us hope that the FO sees the light to jettison "you know who."
The whole vibe around the team is visibly different. The uptick in chemistry and ball movement is impossible to miss.

the 12th pick won't be in the rotation.
it'll be buried on the bench with grimes and mcbride because rose and burks will be ahead of them.

Re: Knicks Raps PG: No really, goodbye Randle
Never has the split been this wide. Randle Burks Fournier Rose Noel ... uninspiring and no future. Guess what I'd toss Mitch in there because he's 1-way and that is a big problem.
Gotta figure out how to dump the half of the roster that plays the wrong way and develop Obi RJ the young guards and Sims.
I think Obi's burst really makes a Zion trade more likely but if the Knicks could stop thinking small, Obi and Zion together might be pretty cool.

It all sounds great but it will never happen with this coach and front office.
They will continue to make all the wrong moves because that’s what they know best.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Re: Knicks Raps PG: No really, goodbye Randle
Was listening to the KFTV post game and they think Randle off the bench would kill his value even more. Idk about that. As the fulcrum for the 2nd unit he might be able to find his groove again.
But before deciding what to do with Randle, I’d hope they reconsider the Thibs year 3. Also they gotta make a choice b/w Burks & Fournier (doubtful we’d be able to dump both). Grimes got to be locked in the rotation. Give Noel away to anybody who wants him. I was wrong about acquiring DRose and he showed he had some chemistry with the kids. It might make sense to keep him & Taj to be the vet leaders.
Knicks have a lot of decisions to make. Hopefully they’ll make the smart ones that try to help the youth flourish

Re: Knicks Raps PG: No really, goodbye Randle
7-3 in our final 10 games with playoffs firmly out of site.
Every other team in the top 7 tanked the F out of the season to optimize their pick.
Not saying we should've outright tanked if playoffs were a realistic option, but damn man why are we grinding Burks, Fournier, until a few games ago Randle, and RJ.
We're going to pick 12th instead of 6th or 7th.
BUT AT LEAST WE FINISHED STRONG!
LET'S GO 12TH!

Obi was the only player who did well in the playoffs and he still got limited minutes while Randle was melting down because we have a coach named Thibs
Thibs screwed the pooch with playing time no doubt about it, that doesn’t automatically mean Obi can be a consistent producer on the big stage though
You’re actually wrong about that. Obi’s production per minute and +/- stats have AFAIK always been the best on the team. He produced even when Thibs would only play him 10 minutes.
Your numbers are apples and oranges….
There’s a difference between producing when you’re a second string rookie contract player vs. being the face of the franchise. You have to understand the NY pressure to know the distinction.

Really with Obi at the top of his trade value and a potential Randle/Cam Reddish four rotation, trading Obi maybe our best chance at acquiring an elite point guard. Despite a few good games, I’m not exactly sold on Obi as a potential All NBA player, yet

thats thibs grand stratagem in padding his w-l period and making this run not so much of a failure. he knows tanking teams will tank hard and he would have a chance to get some wins
"see? i managed to get wins in the end! i just dont have derrick playing thats why we didnt make the play in"
but the front office is the bigger fool believing into his schtick

That’s what he’s supposed to say. Saying anything else would’ve been insanity. Hopefully he’s working overtime to rid the team of this demotivating sourpuss

Basically putting up Lamelo like numbers on a per minute basis.
Give the PG keys to him next year and watch him ascend the way a guy like Garland did this year.
The pro start IQ at PG argument - besides the fact that the stats say the Knicks play MUCH better offensively and defensively when he starts:
Spacing from the PG spot
Faster getting the team into it's sets/actions - most of the time. Every now and then last year's bad habit comes back
MUCH improved decision making
MUCH improved reading the floor/passing
Better at driving the ball, still a work in progress
Better mid range jumper off the dribble or after the dribble is picked up
Last one I wanted to put by itself, because it was really noticeable to me in this game, but also the last 10 games, is that while IQ might not have a great handle - and some argue if he doesn't by now, he won't, but he's gotten a LOT better at hesitation and changing pace - basically the things that make "slow" point players effective without the burst - guys like Andre Miller in the past, Giddy now, etc. And IQ is fast. It could really be the key to unlocking his ability to run PG as a starter
Argument against IQ starting at PG
He's 22, so it's not necessarily wrong to have someone else start for 3 years, who does all the things well, as long as IQ gets 30+ mpg backing up PG and wing.

Re: Knicks Raps PG: No really, goodbye Randle
The big difference with Obi in this stretch is that he had far less fear of being pulled for making a mistake AND that he was hitting his threes. Obi's offense has thrived this the entire season as part of a team-oriented, fast-paced offense - which is the style of offense that ancient NY Knicks fans like myself prefer to watch (inasmuch as it is the way we won our only championships, back in the early 70s).
Obi's ability to get out on the break reminds me of the days when I still watched professional football and certain teams had a wide receiver-QB combo capable of going all the way on any down. His speed and ability to run the floor gives us a different dimension on offense.
