It would be nice if he is eligible. I would even go as far as to play OG no more than 30mpg. 25 to 30. Skip back to backs. That way he can play 65 to 70 games and stay healthy for the playoffs. The team is deep as it is.

Need to preserve him for the postseason.

Bron and Duncan never won DPOY. That award is highly scammable.

that’s the latest conspiracy actually

I refuse to give Nick Wright any views but LeBron was a better defender than MJ and those awards do skew those conversations without necessarily reflecting reality.

the knicks are championship contenders it was definitely worth the risk. if they didn't sign og they're not contending. if they had rj/iq they're not championship contenders. you have to take risk to be great. we have hope.

Plus we got that new doctor guy from the Mavs

Knicks Get Another Former Maverick

The New York Knicks are going back to the North Texas well nearly two years after the Jalen Brunson signing.
Geoff Magliocchetti | Jun 24, 2024
New York Knicks

Nearly two years after famously adding Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks have returned to the North Texas well.

Per longtime NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks have hired longtime Dallas Mavericks mainstay Casey Smith to serve as their new vice president of sports medicine. Smith had been stationed with the Mavericks since the 2004-05 season, serving as the team's head athletic trainer through 2019. He held the same role with USA Basketball in 2005-12 as well.

Smith became one of the most respected names behind the scenes in Dallas, but apparent front office tampering but a cloud over his final tour of North Texas.

Though Dallas recovered well enough to reach the recent NBA Finals, many were reportedly perplexed by a de facto demotion, one where his title became "director of player health and performance." Smith's apparent new role kept him away from the Dallas bench on game day, which ESPN insider Tim MacMahon described as a "banishment" that left those within the organization "concerned."

Thus marred an otherwise sterling tenure, one where Smith, who also carried a front office presence, gained the respect of the major names of the Mavericks organization.

"“He’s been an absolute godsend to us with the Mavericks,” former Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson told team reporter Dwain Price in 2018. “Relationally, he’s as plugged in as anyone I’ve ever been around in the NBA.”

It's perhaps hardly a surprise to see the Knicks seek out new, accomplished names for their medical staff, especially considering what transpired last season. Though New York won 50 games and placed second on the Eastern Conference playoff bracket, many felt that the team could've gone further if not for a lengthy injury report that often resembled starting lineups.

By the end, the Knicks had lost Bojan Bogdanovic, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson to season-ending injuries while Brunson and Josh Hart were also hobbled by the end. The ailments were labeled the primary reason why they fell just short of the conference finals and perhaps more, but Smith brings a new sense of championship pedigree to Manhattan.

In addition to his working during the Mavericks' 2011 title run, Smith also earned Olympic gold medals with Team USA, triumphing in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Games in Beijing and London respectively.

It’s hard to detox from tanking. Lots of withdrawal symptoms. I’m starting tankaholics anonymous to help these people through these difficult times. As we win 50 games a year for the next decade each of these 500+ wins will may feel like like nails on a chalkboard as year after year in the meaningless draft we end up with nothing or pacome daddies

An old article from Dame Dollar while on Portland:

Lillard Names Bridges, Anunoby as Players He Wants to Team With
Damian Lillard has an eye for talent and it’s focused on players that can make an impact on the defensive end.

"If I had to say a player right now that I would want to add to our team, I would say somebody like Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby or Jarred Vanderbilt. Somebody like that. One of those three. I love those three guys.

They defend, they all have really good size, they can make shots. Jarred Vanderbilt does everything. He guards every position, he rebounds, he’s a playmaker, he’s tough, competitive, good feel for what’s going on out there. And I think the other two are similar. They defend really well, they make shots, they play on winning teams, they tough, they competitive – all of those things. And I feel like that’s what the winning teams are built like now."

Exactly! When was the last time we were consider a title contender coming into a season? Probably 1993 or 1994 and before that?

If iHart and Mitch stays... we are coming in as a top 2 or 3 in the Eastern Conference.

I think it is the richest contract (so far). But I'm willing to bet that it will soon be Brunson

As far as if it will cause any jealousy within the team... I think the Nova boys will be cool since they have each other.

Randle might get butthurt. He will have to find more money from another team; or prove his worthiness to the FO (by not choking in the playoffs again)

Randle is due a contract the same time as Brunson is. And soon after, Bridges (and Mitch). Even for Dolan, things might be getting expensive to the point where they reevaluate Randle.

Nobody on this team is Jim Mcllvaine bad though. So it's not like we got completely unworthy guy (Curry, Jerome James, etc) making sizeable money lol.

HopelessKnick wrote:I was hoping for around 38mill. per year so I can really live with this deal. There was never any real chance at signing him for 35mill. or less anyways....I mean neither are his agents, nor is OG himself stupid. We went from a 17-14 type team to the best winning percentage in the entire league with him on the roster. We won 16 games in january by an average margin of 24points.....his numbers may not suggest all-star or superstar but his impact is bigger than many top 30 player that net max contracts. To me it is for example an open discussion of who impacts winning more: KAT or OG?
On top of that the leverage was all really on his side. You can't blame him for trying to maximize his earning potential.

I think the Knicks were trying to keep the salary under 40mill. while OG wanted full max...then they compromised on 42mill.

I've been a knick fan since mid 90s....this is by far the best time for being a knick fan---by FAR. We have a team around an offensive monster and superstar in Brunson along with a decent second option in Randle and a great 3rd option in Bridges along with the best 4-10 rotation in the entire league.

This is a dream come true. Thank you Leon and all the FO guys. Thanks Thibs, Thanks JR for starting this. Thank you JB. These guys have already healed some deep rooted Knick-fan-trauma for me.

What I respect most about this front office led by Leon and Wes, is that they are extremely upfront and fair with their players. Last year JHart opted in to allow Donte to be signed and then the Knicks fulfilled their end of the handshake by giving JHart his bag.

Leon, Sam Rose and Wes, gave OG all the time he needed to get his offers and respect the young man's final decision on what best for him.

The FO hooked up RJ and IQ by moving them to great opportunities. Obi was done right by Leon and Wes also nice young team for (2-2nd rounders to make it easier. No haggling.

I love this FO.

Brunson is most likely extending off his current deal for ~$185M, so I don't think he will surpass OG

Thanks for clarifying. I think I read about this.

So the idea is that Brunson is likely to sign an extension this year and lock in the 185m, instead of taking the risk of a super max.

Correct?

Sounds like he's missing out on some big $$$ to me, but I think he's wanting security.

That is the cost of getting his entire college roster on the team

Then he qualifies for the SUPERMAX in 3 years and can make something wild like $72M a season.

I don't think he does this if we didn't have his literal family running the team. It takes a lot of trust.
