It's a great time for me, as the fanbase turns on Jalen Brunson, as of course they inevitably would with Randle no longer here.

Fatigue doesn’t work that way tho. It’s not like a battery where after every game it’s recharged and you’re 100% going into the next game. These guys are burnt out.

It’s not the only issue, Thibs’ antiquated style of coaching on both ends is another. For teams like last year’s he’s ok, but for this team? Na. It’s like giving an old 90’s pickup truck driver a 2024 Porsche 911 with a manual transmission… dude just doesn’t know what he’s doing.

This was my fear with this team heading into the season. They are better than 80% of the league talent wise, and combined with how Thibs coaches you’re looking at a 55 win team.

But come playoff time, especially deep into the playoffs, when everyone’s rotations get short and you’re playing the top teams, this team isn’t on that level.

This team needs another shot maker/creator off the bench and a rim protecting starting big (pushing Hart to the bench). If you don’t have top tier talent (top-5 level player and top-12 player) you need depth.

A few weeks ago I called Brunson a fringe top-10 player. I got roasted on these boards because of that. I stand by that position.

Go look at last year's footage of Johnnie Bryant vs this years footage of Rick Brunson. Not only does our head coach suck but so do our assistants. Brunson brings absolutely nothing. Bryant was constantly in Thibs ear last season and it's safe to assume had a lot of influence in his in game decisions. Bryant is doing the same thing with Atkinson this year and it's taken the Cavs to a championship level. Not only did we lose some key players but we lost key guys on our coaching staff as well.

I think the HC is a major issue but, we also just built this team so there is no continuity. The bench also hasn't been healthy so there is no chemistry or continuity there either. Boston took a few years to get right. OKC took a few years. Cavs took a few years and a new HC. The Knicks have only been together for 2.5 months.

I think as fans we all got a little over hyped seeing the great things the team was doing so early. Now the scouting report is out and we are struggling to figure it out. It's only been a week of really poor play so, I will try to reign in my emotions/expectations and be a little less angry about the stupid orc faced penguin looking motherfuggin' HC!!! :o

We lack depth and rebounding. In prior years we would wear teams down with our rebounding and depth. It masked the issues with Thibs. Mitch will help with the rebounding but we have no bench and our guys are going to be worn down by March

I'm not entirely sold on the "we don't have a bench". After Randle went down last season Thibs was running 8 and 1/2 player rotations basically. We had Mitch, Bogs and McBride off the bench with Precious and Burks getting spot minutes. Can we honestly say last year's bench was better than this years bench? Sure we miss Mitch but I think the other players are basically a wash.

This year is simply coming down to the fact that teams have started to figure us out, we have no offensive sets and our defense has taken a huge step backwards. All things the coaching staff needs to adjust but has not.

I agree with you. You were right. We need a high level starter at C and push Hart to the bench to help improve it. Melo mentioned Myles Turner and he would be a great fit next to KAT. But I don’t know if we have the pieces to get him. I think we would be better off starting Mitch and pushing Hart to the bench and trading some of our scraps for any available decent wing.

You answered your own question lol Mitch, Bogs, McBride, Burks, Precious >>>>>>Payne, Shamet, McBride, Precious

We had 2 shot creators coming off the bench in Burks and Bogs. We have none this year

Still not sold. Burks wasn't a huge part of our bench and didn't really start getting playing time until the injuries started piling up. Bogs was decent on offense but a huge liability on defense so I'm calling him a wash with Shamet/Payne. Other than Mitch I think our bench is fundamentally the same.

We need a stretch four who defends next to KAT and change our defensive philosophy. Oh wait, we already have one. Problem is he is asked to stand in the corner and we don't protect the perimeter on the other end.

Maybe we should run plays to get EVERYONE involved? All a team has to do is trap/pressure the ball handler and switch on defense or run a zone and we are shut down on offense. All they have to do is push the pace and make one screen and pass to an open perimeter shot to beat our defense.

I really don't think the starting 5 is the problem but, I'm not against shuffling the lineup. Bench not being healthy and the HC are the problems I see. Lack of continuity compounds those problems. This is all brand new and I think we all got a little ahead of ourselves feeling that winning streak. Reality is, we still have work to do and we need to get back to being patient as a fan base. The roster needs tweaks as well. This will take time. I think we all forgot that part.

Nobody has ever said the bench is good, that's just a strawman argument these posters use to defend Tom. Everyone says the bench needs to play, regardless of outcome, like the Celtics don't have a good bench at all but they still play more than ours.

You were touting the bench’s net rating the other day. Proudly point out that they were top 10 in league. Why would you do that if you didn’t think the bench was good?
