Towns gives you the luxury of experimenting a bit with getting the best player at the 4 or 5, but I don't think it automatically allows for you to slide Melo to the 4. There's a lot of risk in that. Remember Towns is a rookie. He will be foul prone.

I don't know why people think that Towns will come in and change our defense at the snap of the fingers. If we don't put more defenders around Towns, you're right, he will be foul prone early on. We could ask Cole to do that, play a lil defense and foul. We wouldn't want that to be the case with our high draft pick.

I like this plan:

Trade Calderon + Hardaway + Purchased Second Rounder (with the $3M we have for this season) to clear cap room

Draft Mudiay or Russell to start at PG
Sign Danny Green for $10M/year
Sign Demarre Carroll for $9M/year
Play Melo at the 4 where he belongs
Sign Deandre Jordan (or Marc Gasol if he bites) for $20M/year (I know he's not a triangle center but he's ridiculous defensively and exciting to watch)

Bench:
Galloway remains
Re-sign Shved with the room exception
Sign Alphabet to the minimum
Early remains
Sign Amundson to the minimum
Sign Lance Thomas to the minimum
Sign Aldrich to the minimum
Sign Larkin to the minimum

awful idea.

draft russell #1

Gallo
Russell
Melo
max Draymond Green
10m to Asik

Why draft another "Volume" scorer like Russell, if you don't want Ellis? Max to Drayomnd Green, who's team is loaded with deadly outside shooters and playmakers? 10 Mil to Asik? That roster screams of a rookie GM mistake!

Draymond plays out to the 3pt line. You can spread out the defense
Asik is a big man with a lot of tread on his tires and on the right side of 30. He's a fantastic defender, solid hands, and hits FTs
Russell's ceiling is sky high and projects to have the ability to average 5 asts/game in the NBA. Ellis is well below league average TS%, that's a complete nightmare idea next to Melo.

dont pair a volume scorer next to Melo but draft Russell? That makes sense... Asik for 10 Million? Yikes Max Draymond Green? Yikes
Draymond won't be nearly as good when he's not playing with Curry, Thompson, Barnes, Iggy, and Bogut so he would fall very short of meeting value and Asik is a good rebounder but not a great defender.

He needs to go back to the 3.

He can't guard anyone on the wing, he's better suited both offensively and defensively at the 4

Avg 5/ast a game? I can Avg that too if I had a chance to! Russell has a high ceiling yes but, his shooting tendencies are questionable to me! He shots at the wrong times and times and Doesn't shoot when his team needed him! Guards are cheaper to get than cheap bigmen!

Again Draymond gets the space he needs because of the system he plays in, pace of the game, and He has the leagues be shooting DUO period and probably in NBA history!

Asik is not worth 10+ mil/year! He's a Bigman that can plug the hole get some decent rebounds, but he just doesn't have that elite defensive skill!

you also has no offensive ability and can't stay healthy and will probably cost north of 5 million per season.
