Wow, we really take this all to another level.

And I like the idea behind the one LBJ thread, but it is confusing following which story line is being discussed at one time.

Who cares about what he has to say? It's not like Lebron will ever lose a starting job like he did haha, and he didn't say New York is a bad place either.

Sorry, too long to quote it all. I agree entirely with what you said--"he will be able to influence the value of the stock through his own actions and decisions" boils down to exactly what I said: he will buy the stock if he thinks he'll be able to improve its performance more than everyone else thinks he will.

So what does this control give him?
1) more power to influence on court decisions? probably not, since he wielded near absolute power in cleveland anyway
2) the chance to affect financial/mangement decisions of the garden? He is a bit of a power-whore, so maybe he covets even these small powers, but it doesn't seem like much of a bonus
3) the ability to determine his own destiny, and boost his pocketbook, by outperforming speculation on the court --> the motivation factor

None of these factors is a sound investment to boost his pocketbook. If they feed his megalomania and that's what's most important to him they could add a psychological bonus, but that's about it. After all, if he's really keen to micromanage and stake his fortune on his own handiwork, he can, like so many athletes before him, became an athlete-entrepreneur. That's where the real monetary advantage of playing for NY lies.

What are you talking about? League rules prohibit any type of team ownership by active players. I'm pretty sure he'd be prevented from buying these shares, even for his own private investment.

According to Kos, this is legal under the CBA. He's buying stock in a publicly traded company there are no rules prohibiting that. The board is elected by the share holders.

Now supposed the following scenario.

1. Lebron signs with the Knicks.
2. Lebron buys 1M shares of MSG at $20 (# for argument sake).
3. MSG announces a healthy dividend at 5%. So now LBJ is making $1m per year on just the stock dividend i.e. he is getting paid on top of his salary for increasing revenue to MSG. This dividend can also live long beyond his contract.
4. Nike announces with a wink and a nod that MSG is a good investment for them too. So they buy 20M shares. Because stocks are priced on the margin the value of Lebron's shares instantly go way up.
5. Shareholders elect Lebron to the board of MSG - increasing his business bona fides. A great play for him for when his career as a basketball player is over.

Uh, no. A publicly traded company whose shares still correspond to the direct ownership of the team. Maybe if it came from a blind trust, wherein LeDiva had no control over where the investments go (Shyeah, when have we seen 'no control' and LeDiva ever associated before). But I'm sure he would still be precluded from having anything to do with the ownership of his team.

What the world saw was a man conflicted between being a professional basketball player and someone who seemed to have obligations elsewhere. Lebron James quit on his team because a loss in the second round would be the only way he could get a pass for leaving Cleveland.

We fast forward to Lebron's last game as a Cleveland Cavalier. It was the day after Game 6 when we first heard the rumblings of Lebron to Chicago. Every New Yorker's immediate reaction was "WTF" - "GTFO" - "BS". We were all baffled of how this crazy Chicago talk actually caught fire after years of Cleveland and New York only being in the discussion. All of a sudden every analyst and their mother had inside information on Lebron wanting to play for Chicago, this alone put up a huge flag for me. (but I admit I was discouraged by the news) But wait, after years of Lebron keeping things top secret, everyone was informed of Lebron's decision? Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what we call a smoke screen! It was reported that Lebron's "Team" met together in a closed meeting immediately after Cleveland lost game 6...REALLY? I can't see why Lebron's Team of Lawyers and financial overseers would conduct a closed meeting for the sole purpose to console the King in that moment. Your business associated should not receive carte blanche over your teammates family and loved ones. This entire situation has been nothing more than a well planned, thought out and executed performance. All of this talk about winning comes first is just showmanship, feeding the politically correct answer to the public. Lebron and his "Team" have been waiting for this moment ever since Lebron signed his three year deal with Cleveland. I ask you, what has Lebron been doing while playing for Cleveland and keeping hush hush on 2010: Well the real question should be what has his business endeavors been doing? I'll tell you, they've been saying buy the new Lebron's (New York) Big Apple editions and follow the Orange and Blue bird in our Nike Air Lebron Commercials. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing any Nike Air Lebron Windy City Editions.

So this brings us back to the original question, whats up with all of this Lebron to Chicago talk and if its a smoke screen, why? I could not of answered this question until tonight. Tonight, news broke of Forbes Magazine predicting Lebron will sign with the Knicks to make a huge profit. This was the piece of the puzzle that eluded us all.

I thought the re-organization a while back was very coincidental.

This was the big secret Donnie Walsh kept saying he had up his sleeve. All along Donnie kept saying we have something that we can use to our advantage. We all thought he was speaking of some sort of trade agreement, but Donnie was referring to something much more appealing. He knew this loop hole would be the biggest factor in enticing the King.

Lebron sent the Chicago smoke screen to divert attention from New York. This plan was conceived by him and his team so they could escape the media claiming how much of a tragedy this would be for the league. Can you imagine the hate ESPN will spew now that they will realize tomorrow morning New York has even more of a financial advantage to offer Lebron?

I have to admit Lebron James and World Wide Wes & Co are some deviously smart individuals, but ITGM has officially cracked the Lebron Code!

Ladies and Gentlemen Lebron James will Officially become a New York Knick on July 8th 2010!

Im not sure if you guys got a chance to catch my post befored it was merged and sentenced to the Death Penalty....lol But there's No need to debate on wether or not Lebron would fit the Knicks, The Lebron Code has been deciphered.

Certainly this is all the kind of calculus you need a "team" for. If he was just trying to figure out who had the best chance of winning a title with he could figure that one out on his own.
Play time is over.

This is some great stuff connecting a lot of different dots in a very convincing way.

I think that Wesley and LeBron -- and therefore probably Leon Rose too -- have had their eye on the Knicks as LeBron's next home for quite a while now.

To add to the story, and to follow along your line of thought about how odd it is that LeBron's team is suddenly supposed to be pushing him to the Bulls, think about this news about how Wesley is supposedly "shopping" LeBron and Calipari to teams.

Does anybody honestly believe that LeBron would allow anybody to shop him anywhere as a kind of package deal with a coach? So now LeBron is going to just go to any team that hires Calipari? He doesn't even care where he goes anymore, as long as it is with Cal? Give me a freakin' break.

The Jeffries trade really only made sense in the context of Walsh (a conservative GM we all know) getting something close to an assurance from LeBron's camp. When you consider that Worldwide Wes has been close to the Knicks for at least a year and has already gone on record saying he thinks LeBron is going to the Knicks ... and then Walsh antes up and makes the Jeffries trade in February ... I think we have good reason to be confident as you so nicely lay out.

Can someone name, outside of people who post on here (and that is debatable) whose opinions are more irrelevant on where LeBron should go than Osi or anyone else in the NFL? I would sat AT LEAST people here are into the NBA, and do matter more.

I want a good Onion article on how stupid this people giving their opinions regarding where LeBron should go, really is.

Can we add here how LeBron being both a player and owner happens to cause a permanent end to the labor strife in the NBA, and he wins a Nobel Peace prize for doing this? At the same time, LeBron coming to NY causes no more oil spills in oceans, because there is so much energy from LeBron being in NY that we no longer need petroleum to run out cars. Of course, LeBron going to Chicago means they Mayans were right and 2012 is the end of the world.

Feel free to take this talk to its absurd conclusion.

Isiah: LeBron should come to Knicks

Former Knicks president and coach Isiah Thomas had a nightmare stint in New York, but he still would recommend to LeBron James to accept the daunting challenge of being the Knicks' savior.

Thomas, head coach of Florida International, told Sid Rosenberg on Miami radio yesterday that James should welcome the task of performing where the microscope is sharpest and passion is greatest.

"Yeah, I would, because the fans show up every single night," Thomas said. "They may boo, but they are there. The media is definitely tough on you. But there is no more passionate fans. That passion can be stirred to love you to death or to hate you.

"As an athlete, a competitor -- at least me -- you want to be in that arena. I want to feel that sweat, I want to feel that intensity. I want to feel that emotion. That's what I thrive on."

I give Isiah credit for still being somewhat loyal to the Knicks. He could be bitter but he's not.

Return to New York Knicks
