i mean, guys kill major college conferences and don't pan out as projected in the pros all the time. that's why i treat the draft the way i do. it's important, but every pick is a lottery ticket. no guarantees ever.
Yeah, I don't see Zion as so transformational. I see people saying Barkley as a floor and that is crazy. Zion is putting up Rodney Rodgers numbers in college and playing in that same style. Yeah he can jump out the gym and probably will look great on the break, but I just don't see him as Larry Johnson even.

wow. barkley as a floor is preposterous to put on anyone.... and kind of insulting to a 50 greatest.

from now on... no hall of famers as floors for draft picks, people!

I definitely saw that comparison made on here.

Wow, that would be pretty bust like if he goes #1.
Rodgers was a 21.9 and 8 guy in college in the ACC.

Rodney was nice in college; I get that. He was drafted 19th. Zion putting up those numbers as #1 pick is bust territory.

Good comp in style of play though. Maybe the, uh, relaxed rules, around defense, help Zion out some.

Or he could just wind up being better - who knows. Even pro scouts get stuff wrong.

And agreed the Barkley comps are over the top, though I held up Barkley and LJ as bigger built, smaller in height PF's with some SF in their game who translated - as high level examples. In a way, there's some argument for Paul Milsap as a smallish (somewhat) PF.

I think if you're looking for a more modern comp. the best one I thought of is a more quick twitch young Blake Griffin. Blake pretty much came into the league a raw athlete who was a lob threat and brute down low. I think Zion is a little more skilled than Blake at the same point of development but similar profiles. What makes Zion slightly more intriguing than a young Blake is his already pretty good handle and feel for the game and his ability to function as either a traditional big on offense or as a wing as well. Blake didn't have that kind of versatility coming in and it's a testament to his work ethic to really augment his game to compensate his natural decline in athleticism. A lot of guys really struggle with that and that will be a massive part of Zion's development as well.

Good comparison, minus the height, but Zion seems to have enough skill/footwork for it to be a wash initially

Tammy and Mudiay would get blown by by a quadriplegic fetus. They suck at such a blistering level. How KP would want to come back to deal with their uselessness every possession is beyond me. Kanter being exposed at the worst rotation player in the league was awesome. What a ****.

oooh. i have my concerns about zion too, but i think his floor is MUCH higher than anthony bennett.

that's in large part because if nothing else zion does not look like a bum ass.

anthony bennnett was talented and did not seem to GAF about the game. he got a nice little rookie scale check and whatever. zion looks like a competitor. that and his skills and phyisical ability should get him pretty far.

his ceiling...

good lord, the ceiling is the roof. i think his ceiling is actually higher than shawn kemp. but i do see similarities.

Shawn Kemp with work ethic and moral principles would have been better than both Duncan and Garnett

All the top picks have one thing in common, they are agressive and drive often to the basket. And with Knox also being able to drive and take it to the rim Fiz might use a scheme as i Memphis with the C at the high post cuz you need a lot of passing from your big men in order to read the passing lanes and make room for the attackers to roam.

Lets see if KP can elevate his passing game on another level or it might be either Vonleh or Robinson doing that role with KP playing in a similar way as with Hornacek. Either way having Knox and Zion or Barrett would benefit Frank too because it would open a lot of space for him off drive and kicks, pnp, cuts and curls

So Kanter just running and running his mouth. Won’t be shocked if he’s out the league soon.
