There are some mysterious things on that chart that I'd be very interested in knowing more about.
1) Did Billy Garrett really get a contract with a team option for next year? That's not what I read on nba.com - that it was a "Rest-of-Season" contract.
2) If Billy Garrett got a contract with a team option for next year why is cap hold $1,443,842? That's the minimum salary for a player with one year experience signing a contract in the 2019-2020 season.See:
https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/minimum_scale(First column of the third table.)
For comparison Jenkins and Ellenson's numbers are (afaik correctly) taken correctly from the second column of the second, contracts signed during the 2018-2019 Season, table.
3) If I'm right that Garrett's contract was an rest of season contract then, if NKY extend him a qualifying offer before 29 June he becomes a restricted free agent
In order to make their free agent a restricted free agent, a team must submit a qualifying offer to the player between the day following the last game of the NBA Finals and June 29. The qualifying offer is a standing offer for a one-year guaranteed contract, which becomes a regular contact if the player decides to sign it. This ensures that the team does not gain the right of first refusal without offering a contract themselves. The amount of the qualifying offer depends on the situation:
...
For all other players, the qualifying offer must be for 125% of the player's previous salary, or the player's minimum salary (see question number 22) plus $200,000, whichever is greater.
Now, by my reading of this "the greater" is $1,416,852 + $200,000 = $1,616,852.
4) Why is there no thought about waiving and
stretching Lance's contract? cf.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q64 For contracts for with more than $250,000 of remaining guaranteed salary, the guaranteed salary for the remaining seasons is "stretched" and paid in equal amounts over a greater time span, as follows:
If the player is waived from July 1 to August 31, then his remaining salary is paid over twice the number of years remaining on his contract, plus one. For example, if the player is waived on August 1 with two seasons remaining on his contract at $10.2 million and $10.3 million, respectively, then his remaining salary is paid over five years (two seasons times two, plus one), in even amounts of $4.1 million per year.
5) (minor question) where does the "room exception" number come from? I've been reading $4,760,000, but in the tweet the number is given as $4,804,307.
[edit] one more quick question:
6) Why does Trier's option have to be picked up by 20th June. I had thought all of these option contracts have to be picked up by 29th June. Is 20th a typo? Or is that really in Trier's contract. That would be kinda awkward - or at least it could have been - since 20th June is draft night, right?
