Couple things, first I do think people are taking this to an extreme we haven't seen in two years. It has come up before and has been mentioned in draft threads in the past though so it is not a new thing. Second, the greatest differential in salary between slots at any time in the draft is $9. It is $4 or lower in 55 of the 60 draft slots and only $1 or even $0 in every spot except one outside of the lottery. I'm not minimizing that because I do understand that in a game where every dollar counts that can be something for a team that has balanced their budget to the dollar.

I will once again use hoffa and mph as an example since this seems to be the greatest concern, even if I don't believe it will occur and it has not happened once in the first two years of doing this draft.

If Hoffa is skipped, mph has the right to select the second player in this years draft if he chooses. If he does he gets that player who is conceivably better and more valuable then the player he would get if he sticks at three and pays $6 extra dollars to do so. Let's then assume hoffa picks third and the draft continues without another skipped pick. Mph picks 7-14 and ends up $3 over the cap. What would happen then is, per the rules, pick 14 would end up on the Spurs EL as a "college holdout". SA would have all season to make any move which shaves three dollars off of their cap and that is assuming that none of the nine of the picks are EL eligible just because they aren't in the sim or didn't have an NBA contract.

In this instance which is almost the most extreme case we can have considering it is pick 2/3, the Spurs can make their selection at two and worst case scenario is they have to shave $3 off in the next six months (before the trade deadline) to sign pick 14. And again, if that risk is to high, then no one is forced to pick at a higher salary slot. You can always wait and pick during your turn and get the third player off the board for the money that was planned.

It isn't too difficult a process. If you want the fourth overall player picked send me a PM with a list of players and tell me you want the highest rated player when the fourth pick is up. If mph is skipped and two players have been selected already, then you need to send me a two person list telling me you want the fourth pick. That way you will not pay any extra salary.

I remember the convos we had but don't remember the exact situation. However, if you moved ahead one slot in the second round, the most you would have had to pay extra was $1. Not sure why that would've required 5 trades to rectify?

honestly that isn't a solution, you are just saying because it normally doesn't happen we should not worry about it when Context said it did effect him and even with all our differences. I think its reasonable to have an issue.

A simple vote would suffice at least ot me for the league. Whats the downside...the rule doesn't hurt or help anyone it just means you pay where your slot is. Who wouldn't sign up for that?

Maybe I'm not saying it right? This is only supposed to be a good thing for the people down below that get the opportunity to move up if they want it. If there is a player they really want who luckily has fallen to them because another GM falls asleep, then they have to pay a very tiny bit extra for him. Or they can wait and pick when they want. Send a list now if you want...If you have pick 60 and want to send in a 60 man list, feel free. I'm really trying to make this as easy as possible?

no he saying I would have to wait for context to pick and then my pick could register at the #3. But if context picks the guy that Hoffa wasn't then I would have I would have to worry about someone below me picking the guy.

I really an harping on this because there is literally no downside to voting and it hurts no one to keep $ slots at salaries. If you make you pick on time nothing changes. If someone gets skipped someone can just pick during there timeslot and not worry about if the previous pick has been submitted or not.

I guess why I'm confused is because the new adjustment doesn't hurt anyone and makes less work for bish because he doesn't have to decipher a list to time stamp picks. If you pick during your timeslot you pay the guy the price of your pick. Seems easy.

I don't look at it like that. I see only benefit for the teams moving up because they are only moving up if they choose to do so.

I am 100% against voting on this considering we have already opened up the draft thread and are hours away from the first pick being made. To try and implement a new rule this close to the draft when teams can technically already be sending in picks is not something I feel should be done. I really don't think this will be an issue. But whether it is or isn't if we do vote to change it, it should not be done on the eve of the draft.

to be fair I didn't think it was a rule because I thought it would be obvious if a team was skipped someone wouldn't have to pay more.

It isn't written as any rule. And when hoffa joked I said no you still would have to pay the higher price. That is when you corrected me but there is no rule about it. So how would I have known prior to today?
