How the hell did the Wizards get out of the Wall contract for a very well protected 1st round pick?

The going rate is a heavily protected 2023 first. You want it?

The especially cool part about this is that you can now more clearly deduce what the Knicks actual involvement was. They either

1) wanted assets BACK (like many of us had expected necessary in any deal) from Houston to take Westbrook's money

or

2) weren't meaningfully interested at all in acquiring Brodie.

Because the Wizards sent a WORSE contract back to the Rockets and only had to attach a heavily protected 1st. The Knicks would have sent significantly BETTER money back in the deal, so Houston would have had to pay down that massive value defect.

This is a no-brainer for Wizards.

I almost called it months ago (thought Beal would be traded for Westbrook).

Houston should still get rid of Harden, he’s not a guy you can build around.

The Knicks dodged a bullet with Westbrook to the Wizards.

I'm just mad my Randle + (PG) + stuff for Westbrook prediction didn't come true. :-)

On a message board, it's more important to get a prediction right than what is actually good for the team you root for.

Knicks are winners in this trade.

1. No Wall or Westbrook here and dead those rumors.
2. Wizards get better, take them out of the tank race.
3. Maybe Houston keeps Harden now screwing the Nets.

Didn’t see the protections on the pick at first. That changes things. I actually don’t hate it for the Wizards.

Rockets might be nice depending on how Wall and Cousins look like coming back from their injuries. Nice to see them reunited

I think the Rockets feel they have a 3-man unit. Nets might be out of luck.

OKC or more precisely, Sam Presti is the real winner here. He traded Westbrook to the Rockets last year for Paul and got 2FRP and 2 FRP swaps. He then traded Paul this year and turned him into 3 more potential FRP with all the side dealings. He traded Westbrook and eventually took no long term contracts back. Rockets traded Westbrook for Wall and 1 FRP.

Essentially Rockets traded Paul and what amounts to like 2-3 FRP's for Wall. John Wall (often injured and coming off major surgery) and his $130+ million remaining on contract!!!!
