Cmon man, if you read the thread or watched the game, you’d know Fried was victimized by a bunch of errors. And before anyone says aces should be able to overcome them, remember what happened to Gerrit Cole during the World Series.

It’s the defense that’s the issue and part of that lies at the feet of Hal for not paying up to address third base adequately and part of that lies at the feet of Boone, for creating a culture where these silly mistakes are excused and ignored.

I do not want to overreact and I'll give him a pass because the defense was terrible and it was only one start, but I really hope that he doesn't become another overpaid guy who cannot handle the pressure of playing in NY like we've seen so many times over the years.

Especially since he was the big fish this winter. I'm going to be nervous until he proves his worth.. I do give him a pass but, it won't go unnoticed if he struggles. He wasn't exactly lighting them up out there today no matter how many errors there were.

Yeah, as a pitcher you're supposed to pick up your teammates whenever they mess up and limit the damage, that's what seperates the great pitchers from the regular ones. He was not exactly pitching great with the number of hits that he was allowing. On any other day besides this one he would have been the losing pitcher of record. Focusing on just one stat does not tell the complete story of a pitcher's overall performance. Sure great pitchers have off days, but for the money that he is making he needs to do a lot better than 7 hits in 4.1 innings in his next outings.

Meanwhile, the Mets were one Soto hit from getting not-hit in the third game of the season.

They’re lucky this is a Yankees town and the Yankees get more attention/have more championship expectations

They won the off season championship and it only cost them almost a billion dollars. Good luck out there!

That's a lot of money spent to avoid getting no hit.

Steve Cohen could never elevate the Mets to a global empire despite his deep pockets. The Mets lack the historic legacy of the Yankees and the Japanese talent pipeline of the Dodgers.

Different level then anything I've ever seen...Wonder how long teams will pitch to him at this rate without any real protection behind him. Really important than guys keep getting on base in front of him to force pitchers to pitch to him.

And I really hope that he has one of these performances in the postseason one year.

Looks like the commissioner will be stepping in any minute now to ban this unfair advantage.

Or make the rest of the league use them to juice the offense, in search of more revenue.

Honestly, who cares? Nobody did anything when the Astros used trash cans and when the Sox used Apple watches.

Better overall team without Soto.

That contract will be an albatross for the Mets as time goes on.
