Whether in Game 2, or in Detroit, they're gonna put up better fight

But they gonna do it in spite of their coach, JB who I think is a reg season, not playoffs, coach. His team just crumbles like his ex Cavs team when opponents make a run, he just doesn't know how to respond.

Can we talk about how good Mitch and Kat looks together on court. They didn't play much together but they match up well together. Hoping to see more of this down the road.

Bro is a such a good, weakside defender.

Mikal was locked in. Thibs still made the correct call to roll with the hot hand, but I thought Mikal was super active and physical defensively.

100%. Cam was insane. The team looked alright overall. It will be tough once in a while if the Pistons hit everything for stretches. I am concerned about Brunson though. But we have many options, many counters, quite some depth and defensive ability. We can always go to the Mitch+Towns lineup so let’s hope the coach understands that.

I thought they crumbled because what they did wasn’t sustainable. They’re far inferior, a team comprised of bench players plus one starter. A gritty team like that will be in many games and may win one at home, but that’ll be about it.

I think the one easiest thing they can improve from Game 1 is going back to being more physical, A LOT MORE

They gonna institute a no lay up rule, put our ass on the hardwood when we go into the paint, gonna start a lot of extra curriculars, they'll feel like our 21-0 run was due to their not being physical enough with us, whether JB or Beef Stew initiating it to their team, I'm sure of it. And if OG is aggressive and driving in or KAT posting up downlow, it'll lead to some altercation.

He's executing 100% the offense Thibs wants.

Randle caught sh*t for the same thing.

this the absolute truth. we love our captain burner but this needs to be pointed out

I agree, and I partly mean this in defense of Randle. These players could do a lot more though.

KAT's highlights are so rad to watch. He really did a bit of everything. His skillset and IQ are massively underrated.

Dudes have had the chance to watch him all year and still haven’t comprehended this…

This is why you can't get too harsh on Brunson who is still our best player even if OG and KAT are up there too.

Young DRose set Thibs obsession with attacking guards in stone. He considers play action to be what happens when the guy forcing the action can't get a shot off. Brunson happens to be so elite at it that it often does make up for Thibs having no other offensive plays to run for his lead guard's other teammates.

You don't really get your number called in Thibsland. You just try to get open for your teammates and take your shot when they pass you the ball. Ball motion in this offense is a reflection of how our team is relating to one another on the court, not due to anything designed by the coach. When they look for each other we tend to kick ass because we have lots of scoring talent on this squad. When we don't we rely on ISO to win. ISO alone won't win a championship. As long as Thibs is the coach it falls on the players to play selflessly for each other.

I think the Thibs hate gets a little hyperbolic on here. I can't understand why people might do that. :D

It's interesting, because at times he'll emphasize ball movement.
He allowed Randle to be a facilitator from the 4 spot. Even after Brunson got here.
Even though they are slow on pace, the Knicks absolutely OPPORTUNISTICALLY push the ball. That's a decision, and Thibs should get credit.
They get good looks when the defense is off balance. It's the NBA, this isn't unique, but credit still.

I'd say the players they get are players with Thibs "DNA", in that he's looking for certain types of players and he absolutely is involved in FO decisions this way. So, Brunson and all the Villanova guys, OG, iShart, probably KAT.
Those players all have cutting and sharing the ball in their DNA (the weird "Brunson is selfish" propaganda by a few on here this year aside)
It's a given he wants players that compete all game, try hard on defense etc.

There's still a bit too much overemphasis on "read and react" and not enough plays to free certain players and take advantage of who he has.
Thibs more like Phil as a coach, in that he has a system that provides the framework and then expects players to play within that.
He has plays, because I see cuts and backscreens that have to be by design, not improvised
He's just missing some extra creativity on offense and defense.

Thibs should get credit for establishing a culture of hardwork, teamwork, selfless play.
He does, however, like his scoring options to dominate the ball a bit much.
This isn't Brunson apology. Brunson isn't Stockton or Mark Jackson. Probably closer to Marbury.
I liked Marbury, but Brunson is a more willing passer. I get the assist averages are closer, but Marbury had a LOT more "I'm dominating the ball, whoops, not open, let me pass", than Brunson does.

The trouble with Thibs is all the stuff that got him to near the very pinnacle of the basketball coaching profession, seems like he won't compromise on a few key things that cause him to get outcoached.

It's easier to fire the coach than the team.
Or the Knicks can attempt to tweak the team more to fit Thibs.
Either one needs to happen for the Knicks to be a real contender.
Or both.

He played Cam more and Bridges less so he gets credit for doing something he doesn't always do which is keep the player doing well on the floor

I've been on Thibs case more than anyone, and I think he gets outcoached to start 2nd halfs A LOT but his 4th quarter adjustments have been pretty good since he got here.

He pretty routinely has gone with last half the 4th quarter guys who bring the defense or offense that weren't starters. Playing time that's gone to IQ or Grimes or Deuce over the years, for instance.

The only chance the pistons have is getting towns in foul trouble. We(thibs, we are all Thibs) reduced the chances of that happening by pulling him early in the 1st quarter when he had 0 fouls. Of course we got outscored badly in the stretch but it allowed him to play more freely for the rest of the game. But by the end of the 3rd he still had 3 and had to allow a couple blow bys to not pick up #4. But all in all he was able to avoid the cheapies and if that keeps up we will be tough to beat
