The more things change, the more things stay the same.

This is the same franchise that let Bernard King walk because Bianchi and Pitino didn't think he fit into what they wanted to do - and that Johnny Neumann fit better.

I remember seeing that summer league footage of Lin a couple of seasons back, and thinking wow, this guy had an exciting game. He was never going to be able to match his Linsanity level - but in a league where Brook Lopez gets maxxed out, the money Houston was offering is chump change.

All add up to very close to $15M in the year that Lin will make $15M. But that combination together doesn't equal Lin's impact to the Knicks.

Just no way to justify letting him go.

really?

Well, in year 3, Kidd and Camby will be playing in the wheel chair league so I'm pretty sure Lin would be more productive than them. No knock on those guys, glad we got them, but they will either be retired or completely washed up by that point.

No disrespect to these 4 guys, but I would trade them all for Lin in a heartbeat.

Yep, it's not a sound basketball or business decision. This is Dolan getting piqued and favoring the guys who suck up to him. Felton showed up at Dolan's July 4th party, trying to schmooze his way into a starting job after he couldn't get offers from the rest of the league. Smacks of the same fascination and favoritism that Dolan showed to Isiah Thomas. Suck up to Dolan and get on his good side, and you can get him to intervene and back you up, overriding whatever good sense or advice your FO gives you. Felton looks like he's learned the trick from Isiah.

Letting Lin walk and replacing him with Felton is bad for basketball and bad for business, but that type of thing never stopped Dolan with Isiah, nor will it stop Dolan with Felton.

I actually think this is the most logical speculation so far.

Yep, this seems pretty obvious. I should have known we hadn't heard the last of Felton.

Also, I didn't think of this until now, but getting these "fan favorite" Knicks, Camby and Thomas, could be another tactic that Dolan is using to try to lessen the Lin backlash.

Your posts are so well thought out and convincing.

Let me go one by one for you:

Novak is a 1-dimensional shooter and will be 32 in that season.

Kidd will be 42 and is already almost out of steam.

Camby will be 42 -- lucky to get 12 *decent* MPG out of him at that point.

Felton is garbage and overweight now. Two years from now he'll be bigger garbage and more overweight.

Isn't he better than Felton whom we're paying $3.3M per?

no

In what ways is Felton better?

C.J. is a better shooter, better defender, knows his role better.

i'm no felton fan but cj choked in the playoffs something awful.

It is "highly doubtful" NY will match Jeremy Lin's offer sheet with HOU, source tells Y! Sports. NY likely to wait 3 days before declining.

From an outsider looking in, it's pretty obvious he is gone.

1) Style of play. Lin and Carmelo do not work together. Both need the ball in their hands to make something happen. It's as simple as that. It is clear with the moves they have made (Kidd, Felton, bringing back J.R., adding Camby) that they are complimentary peices to Melo. Lin and Fields are NOT.

2) The third year will cost the Knicks 40 mil. I understand Dolan is loaded but is he really going to pay that much money for this guy who actually hurts Melo's game? It doesn't make sense. What are they going to do, let him sit on the bench just to reep the marketing benefits? Highly unlikely...

People ask, so why not match and then just trade him later? Valid point but they would have to trade him in January. Are they willing to sacrafice half a season with chemistry problems and then have trouble trading him with that contract after his poor play? Doubt it

He's 38 and he played 23 outstanding mpg last season. He's a better rebounder and shot-blocker than Chandler is RIGHT NOW.
