I'm not sure how buyouts completely work honestly. But say if Kanter gets bought out. So the Knicks have to pay the rest of his salary even if another team grabs him?
- Maybe it should work like this.. if you buyout a player and another team signs him. That team signs has to pay 40% (or a different % depending on which point of the season he's signed) of the salary and it can count against the luxury. Wasn't that how waivors worked?
- Don't give the player the option.
- Allow teams equal chances to claim bought out players. Say if Kanter, Matthews, and DJordan are all bought out. Don't let allow one team to sign all of them. If Warriors pick up DJordan, then they use one of their buyout "picks".
With the new high cap, these contracts are getting big so it's hard to make trades for guys like Kanter, Matthews, and DJordan.
