We are still one of the younger teams in the league. Yall make it sound like we're the 12-13 Knicks lol. And why did we get Randle not to have him start and finish games? RJ is a 19 year old rookie, if he's not ready he doesn't need to be forced to be our franchise player on day 1. Lets calm down and see them play at least one game first.

Who did we overpay?
Taj
Ellington
Payton
Portis
Arguably Randle
gonna need some explanations? Especially Randle at 18m that sounds like a dam steal especially considering he is better than kp and tobias harris who got max contracts.
payton at 8m - corey joseph got 12m. Idk about you but I am taking Payton over joseph easy.
Payton has never gotten a deal over $3M, now he's worth $8M coming off a shortened season with a broken jumper?
Ellington has been a minimum player most of his career and now he's getting $8M/yr
Taj is obvious
Portis hasn't been a full time starter his entire career, including here. Now he's worth $15M/yr?
Morris couldn't find anyone else in the NBA to pay him $15M/yr. That's why he initially signed with the Spurs for $10M.
Randle hasn't proven to be better than KP. He's a more efficient interior scorer and better ballhandler, especially in transition. KP is no slouch offensively and dwarfs Randle defensively. He's arguable because Knicks are banking on his potential, but I doubt he's getting $20M/yr from anyone else.
These guys might enjoy being Knicks, but they didn't come here just for pride. We overpaid them for their services.

Cmon man.
You cant be serious with this question. I think all of our exiting FAs combined make less than any two to our backup FAs make when you include a bigman. Take any bigman and then add the cheapest other FA we signed. Go do the math and then come back and answer your question.
Well actually I forgot Enes Kanter but we all knew he had to go. What did he end up getting paid. Bobby Portis makes 14mil a season on this contract. What's Gibson make, 11?
And that's not to say I wanted all our exciting FA back but we signed guys to 1-2 yr deals. Not a glowing endorsement and the argument that it keeps us flexible just means we couldve signed anybody to push the cap space forward. Dude on this site were sweating the idea of having to pay Vonleh 8mil like it was breaking theBank. Go figure, he signed for something like 4mil per.
Notice I haven't at all bashed Randles deal.

You the players that take the most ice baths will start! Gtfoh. This media group was just terrible, look you already know that these players and the staff are not going to sit here saying who's starting unless we have super stars in place. Also the Knicks would have been eaten alive if we did get Durant (another injured player who may never play and will just take up cap space), Kyrie who is NEVER healthy and now has another injury, so it was damned if you do damned if you don't so they chose to go with plan B which was a great option, it did not hurt us in any way, we didn't sign 170 mil contracts to players like Harris, Butler, KP, Kemba. Why even bother with players that we knew weren't coming like Kawhi?
I believe what they really had in mind when we added these free agents was getting tough minded, gritty, non backing down players who will put their own teammates on their back if they get out of line. Think how Oakley was with Pippen, I can see Morris with both Knox and RJ under each wing bumping their heads together. We have players that are going to push our youth and force them to improve. Keep what you kill mentality! Let's go!

Exactly. And that's why in my last post I didnt bash Randle but still bash the offseason. You're alittle harsher on Randle than I am but you sound reasonable. If the Knocks made that signing and were betting on his potential to break out, I'm sure you could forgive one single splurge right?
That's my big issue. The Knicks went out and signed all these expensive backups to a player who might be our only wise signing ( Randle). Its like give an inch, take a mile with Mills. Dude just cant help himself.
We couldve signed Randle (and truth is...given him alittle more tbh) and then signed all of our expiring deals and still not met the contracts of 2 of our incoming BACKUPS....BACKUPS.
Randle 22mil
Vonleh 4mil
Kornet 4mil
Herzonia 4mil
And truth is it wouldve created a roster that makes a hell of alot more sense, had a helluva lot less logjams and quite possibly improved yr over year with this crazy concept other teams employ called roster continuity and chemistry.
Smith/Frank
RJ/Trier/Dotson
Knox/Herzonia/Iggy
Randle/Vonleh
Robinson/Kornet
And a whole max contract worth of space to sell for some waivable bum who has draft picks in tow. Or.....or we coukdve used the space to sign a single player who at least is in the Randle tier of player (although I'm fine if we just trade the space for picks). Instead the Knicks rather spend the most money the leagues ever seen on redundant PFs. Again, I like the Randall signing. Mills ruined it by taking the mile.

To be fair I said all our expirings. I mean the ones I listed. Never wanted Mudiay or Kanter back but still, what Mudiay get in FA...like 4mil? What's Kanter making for the Celtics? Good riddance to both of them though

Our youth is on notice. You want to play...play better than you did last year. Play better than the vets we overpaid to come here. So...
DSJ/Frank have to beat out Payton. Not impossible.
Trier/RJ/Dot have to beat out Ellington. Not impossible.
Knox/Iggy have to beat out Morris/Bullock. This is the toughest battle.
Randle is the young "star" we brought in. The job is his.
Mitch will get his minutes.
I guess I can see the logic. Push the youth with more established players who aren't stars in this league. The tank is dead. The team wants wins but...not necessarily aiming for wins/playoffs over development. All that's left is how it plays out.

I don't know who will start. RJ will have to earn his position. Fiz made that much clear. He's getting tougher treatment than Knox. I don't expect to see him start unless he shows out in camp and pre-season.

as if they would bench the pick that they are basically marketing as the future of the franchise for wayne ellington. they'd have to fire themselves.

Wtf are the knicks going to do with 45mil in capspace? Nothing, you act like there are tons of teams looking to get off contracts but in reality there is probably 3-5 of those a year and they aren't offering anything great. Nobody cares about a pick in 2024. Knicks have plans to compete now, and what they did this offseason was the right move.
If somehow the knicks aren't in playoff contention ( they will be though) at the trade deadline they could move these contracts easily and achieve the same goals involved in trading capspace for picks.
Lets try to win, I am tired of tanking it's just not worth it.

I was gagging while listening to these frauds talk about the offseason, sugarcoating their failures with this new rebuilding non-sense while the best draft pick we got in 25 years is playing in Dallas with nothing to show for it.
"I have reliable sources informing me that big free agents are coming".
