I think it is pretty standard stuff. Keep in mind that we are reading second hand up dates and interpretation based on some vague quotes. I always thought the 12th was very optimistic. 21st seems very realistic...he'll probably start full contact stuff next week and then come back....Keep in mind the 21st would put him at 7-8 weeks after the initial injury which is pretty standard.

I think he will get surgery in the offseason regardless. The odds of re-injuring that shoulder in 20-30 games this season may be very low but if you go for 80+ games at some point next season (especially given his playing style) he will get hit there.

Rough estimates of return by ESPN changing is nothing to change your level of concern. The estimate for Randle made no sense, they had him coming back too soon so they fixed that.

I see it differently as a positive sign they aren't rushing him back. I think Portland is when we'll see him. At the very least we'll hear an update next week. He's not doing surgery. Not this late into the season.
