Earlier today. Just like yesterday's Mega Workout (yesterday's workout had A LOT of the bigger names we were targeting going up against each other...see the Top of Pg 9 and onwards for details).

Why do you feel threatened or insecure about a player who wants to be great. Why should he wan to "settle" for being a role player?

I posted an interview with Marshon and they asked what he expects to be able to contribute to an NBA team. He said (paraphrasing), at first he wants to be able to just contribute as a rotational player who does whatever it takes to help the team. But he said he honestly feels sometime down the line he will be a big-time scorer in this league.

What's wrong with a mentality like that? If anything that is the killer-instinct that is needed to be great. We don't need guys like Gallinari who claimed they were NOT great, they were just happy to be a part of the team and did not feel that they had what it took to be a great player.

That mentality prevented guys like Crawford, Felton, Zach and Tardbury from being the best players they could be for the knicks because by trying to prove they were great scorers they ended up forcing a ridiculous amount of bad shots and looks instead of settling and letting the game come to them and sharing the ball. Sure you want a guy to think he can be a great player but you don't want a guy who's not a good shooter acting like he's Mike or Kobe out there and forcing up any bad shot because he's confident in his stroke. I'd rather my players be a little to team focus because that way if their sense of when to become assertive and when to let the game flow doesn't improve at least they won't be hurting the team with their play.

Brooks shot 48.3% from the field last season (55.9% from 2 point range). That's pretty good for a guy that's "not a good shooter" no, especially a guy that's called a "volume shooter"? And Brooks managed that despite not really having any help and with pretty much every team he played knowing exactly who's going to be taking the shots.

So let me get this straight. Marshon Brooks takes bad shots, has no athleticism, or very little, is a ballhog, and forces things yet he scored over 24 points a game and shot nearly 50% from the field? Shouldn't that make us like him even more?

Don't forget AND ranked right up there with the guys that are generally considered super athletes (Iman Shumperts, Isiah Thomas', etc) in most of the physical tools tests (jumping, agility, speed, etc) performed at the combine.

It's amazing the reactionary negative backlash Brooks appears to be getting because Chad Ford (not Brooks himself mind you) said that there was "just a little" Kobe in Brooks. He might as we'll change his middle name to "Ok, I'm Not Kobe, You Happy".

Again, Brooks NEVER compared himself to Kobe...Chad Ford did...in fact when Brooks himself was asked about the Kobe comparison he didn't agree.

And its funny that Brooks being compared to Kobe by a 3rd person is causing Brooks such flack and yet you get the rest of the jamokes comparing themselves to Scottie Pippen and Tracy McGrady and James Worth and no one appears to have a problem with that.

That Selby picture is adorable. Now if only he was a PG :).

I wonder if we think he is. Oh I wonder so.

Imagine Selby just flat out said,

"Listen okay, Im a shooting guard. A 6'3 shooting guard. Got it? I also dont pass that well. Tend to chuck a little bit at times. I have an attitude problem and might take plays off on defense. Damnit I can dunk the ball though, and dunk it hard. Might even win a slam dunk contest or two. Once in a while I will get hot and score a little bit, but forget about my teammates. When Im not hot Ill still forget about my teammates. So yea definitely not a point guard. No sirree. (laughs) You should draft me though!"

Exactly. I remember when Jerryd Bayless, Monta Ellis, and Nate Robinson were selling themselves as PG's too.

People have to realize that just because a player closes his eyes and wishes he could play point does not mean all of a sudden he is a PG. By the time you get to the NBA, you either are a PG, or you aren't.

Yea I was just going to say he reminds me so much of if Bayless and Nate were fused. I guess thats a good thing value wise at 17, but as a PG no.

Even Eric Gordon was trying to sell he could play PG. These guys will say anything.

Im not saying Selby is or isnt, but I get the exact same feeling about him as Bayless.
