Re: Knicks targeting Rondo
Let's face it, at the trade deadline we will be lucky yo get Rudy Gay for Shumpert and fillers.
Rudy isn't what we are looking for in a star point guard but at the very least he will take some pressure off Melo and probably be the best scorer on this team if Melo opts out next Summer......

If we dont get Rondo or someone Melo will sign in LA where they have all that cap space, Kobe and a likely lottery pick in a deep draft

Andrea Bargnani.
Get Amare out of these scenarios. Nobody is taking a 40 million dollar player that can't play.
Bargnani + Shumpert/Hardaway Jr for Asik. Getting Asik opens the door for trading Chandler for a proper PG. I don't think it can get you Rondo, but at least it's worth a shot if you can flip Tyson for Eric Gordon and send him over to Boston along with anything else for Rondo and all their bad contracts.

Re: Knicks targeting Rondo
I bet Boston is only talking to us to drive up the price for Rondo on the Rockets
Come on like they would honestly take Amare? Shump? for Rondo?
Unless Rondo pulled a Melo and said he only wanted to go to NYK, but idk his contract status.
all in all its a pipedream
Its a harsh reality but the only players we could honestly move would be THjr Shump and Chandler and I doubt it could even get us someone who is better.
smh

IDK Dude i mean a deal like this really favors the celtics
NY- Rondo, Wallace, Lee
Bos- Stoudamire, Felton, Shumpert, Hardaway Jr, 2018 Pk
I mean the celtics rid rid of salary 1 yr earlier by taking on Amare who expires a yr earlier then Wallace and Lee, they get all of NY young assets in Shump, Hardaway and another 1st rd pk... this is the only deal i can see celtics even considering since they have all the dam leverage....

Are we allowed to trade the 2018 pick?
and if so yes you are right that would be the only deal I could see the Knicks offering that is semi-respecttable-- if they covet Shump/THjr and are looking to shed salary.
However, I think ainge would rather gift wrap Rondo to the Rockets before sending him to Knicks
But the optimist in me a ROndo-whoever-Melo-Bargs-Chandler would be a interesting/fun team to watch

Re: Knicks targeting Rondo
NY Trades: Amare, Shumpert, Felton, THjr, Bargnani
BOS Trades: Rondo, Green, Lee, Wallace, Bogans
Boston goes into full rebuild mode and saves millions in '15 salary, turning all their two year deals into one year pacts (except for Felton). They add Shump, THjr, and maybe Bargs to their young asset pool and they already have a ton of draft picks for the next few seasons. They should be able to build a very nice squad very soon.
Otherwise, Boston can remove Green and Bargs from the equation. It all depends on what Boston wants, really. Our package is a good one financially and has good young talent.

Re: Knicks targeting Rondo
if not Rondo we need to call it quits
Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin and Iman Shumpert to Golden State for Harrison Barnes, David Lee, Jermaine O'Neal, and a 1st Round Pick
Curry/Nedovic
Thompson/Shumpert
Igoudala/Green
Anthony/Martin
Bogut/Speights
this makes the Warriors title contenders not just playoff contenders
Knicks however
Felton/Prigioni
Smith/Hardaway
Barnes/MWP
Bargnani/Lee
Chandler/O'Neal
the 1st Round pick is very nice, Barnes is a guy you can build with and he fits in great with Hardaway on the wing in the future. Lee adds to 2015 Cap but he may opt out if he has that option, didn't check, and move to a contender
Now why would the Warriors part with Barnes who has major upside for the media and internet marked inefficient chucker that is Carmelo Anthony well because he's not that and they need a guy besides Curry who's a match up nightmare that can take attention away and can also feed off of Curry. Anthony fits in great if continues to play how he's been for them at the 4 spot because there aren't too many teams who play 2 bigs anymore and Melo can match up with any PF in the West aside from teams like the Spurs or Grizzles but GSW could adjust
Getting back Barnes is a long term gain as well the 2014 1st Rounder which wont be lottery but will be a good asset to have in a very deep draft
we really dont have many options

we're looking to upgrade
this is a downgrade or lateral move
sometimes change for change sake is a good thing
lots of times it isn't
in this case imo it isn't
besides the two poison pill contracts Asik and Lin have we would be making moves that probably dont lead to better team balance or chemistry
Rondo makes sense
Asik might work really well depending on what we give up
Lin not really

Re: Knicks targeting Rondo
Why would the C's take a deal that improves their hated division rival, New York when the Pistons could offer Greg Monroe, Villaneuva's $8.5M expiring or Houston with Asik and any combination of players? Neither Detroit nor Houston would affect competing against the C's directly.
Knicks getting Rondo is only going to happen if Rondo "Melos" his way to NYK.

Lin would add more negative attention, not his fault he's done nothing wrong, and thats something we dont need right now with this team
Asik would be nice but when Tyson comes back then what, will he complain about his minutes I mean we could limit Tyson to 28 a game, give Asik 20 but where does that fit Martin and Bargs
or we could get Asik, trade Chandler out West(Portland) ship Melo to GSW for Harrison Barnes and David Lee, Felton to a team lacking a back up PG(GSW as well), Smith stays if Woody does, Bargs stays likely too, Shumpert goes with Melo and we get back a 2014 1st maybe
I mean its like moving one of these guys makes you wanna move them all

Lin and Asik do not have poison pill contracts. Besides, that deal is so lopsided in our favour Houston would never do it because they can get better value trading them separately elsewhere.

Terrible idea... Warriors 1st rounder wont be a lottery pick... Plus, Lee has one year more then our current players... New York now has to chose between two options: Rondo or Dragic
If we go for Rondo, then they should consider another two options:
1)To dump Amare as a player?! But we lose 10M cap space in 2015
2) To trade Bargs; who's the better player now, but if trade him, we'd be in a better position in 2015 to sign a 3rd star... This is what should we discuss!!
Chandler - Bargs - Melo - Smith - Rondo (better for short term)
or
Chandler - Amare - Melo - Smith - Rondo (better option for long term)

JBreezeNY wrote:Besart19 wrote:JBreezeNY wrote:I need a quick question as far as the cap space goes speaking of '15. How many stars could we afford if Melo takes the Kobemax or if he takes a Dirk deal?
With Rondo here, we would only be able to sign a 3rd big contract with Kobe Max while two others with the Dirk discount... Also would depend a lot on Rondo and Chandler how much they will ask in 2015... the more probable SL by then would be:
Tyson (8M)
Love (18M)
Melo (15M)
THJ (2M)
Rondo (12M)
Total: 55M which is still under the cap (2015/6 projection is around 62M)
But, if we take Wallace and Lee contracts, then we should say bye by to at least one star... But, still it's a risky to wait until 2015... I dont know frankly which way is better
So basically with a Kobemax:
1 star with Melo
Dirk contract:
2 stars with Melo
But of course it all depends on the money Rondo, Love, etc ask for. Since you broke it down we really have three decisions to make.
1. Go all in for 2015 which means praying Melo signs considerably less so we can have a real big 3.
2. Re-Sign Melo whether it's the Kobemax or less & go after Kevin Love
3. Re-sign Melo for less and go after Rondo, if he doesn't want to take less build with Hardaway Jr, Jeremy Tyler, Iman Shumpert, be mediocre for multiple years and actually build through the draft.
For me it's a no brainer you go for #3 on the basis that you still have options for 2016 and beyond. You'll have Rondo + Melo duo along with re-signing Tyson. If you don't have Melo we'll struggle but there will be talent coming in the future. Not to mention the biggest thing we have going for us is the new CBA will punish teams like the Knicks & the Lakers for their "we don't need the draft, players to come us" mentality.
2016:
Chandler
Anthony
Durant
Hardaway
Rondo
if Melo and Chandler are willing to take 22M combined (7+15)
Gasol
Melo
Smith
THJ
Rondo
or
Gasol
Rebounding PF
Durant
THJ
Rondo
2016 is a much better option to build the winning team... but is Dolan willing to wait until then?
Not to mention that James might be willing to play with Melo and Tyson
Chandler
Anthony
L.James
Hardaway
PG?! whoever
