Yep. Phil and Melo already met several times and Phil has probably known for a while what it takes to retain Melo. Either Melo told him (a long time before free agency) or Phil just read between the lines. Ain't that difficult. Especially for someone like Phil. He's pretty good when it comes to psychology.
i don't think Phil's harassing Melo either but at some point he'll probably take action if he thinks Melo will leave the team.At this point, I still think Melo's taking his time and he's having the experience he wanted (free agency).
July moratorium ends tomorrow (july 9th) and the new numbers (salary cap, luxury tax level, max salaries per years of service, etc.) will be released by the league. As soon as thursday, players can sign contracts officially.
There's a possibility Lebron, Melo and co are waiting for the exact salary cap number to know exactly how much room under the cap the Heat (and other teams) can clear. The league released projections in april but maybe the players think one or two million more can make a big difference for them and taht's why they're waiting for the exact number. I don't know. Just an idea.

Re: MeloDrama 6.5: The Prelude
From a Sixers perspective, you consider Lin/Amare because you're going to have to pay out that money to your players anyhow so why not bring in two guys who can help fill the seats for next season. Both guys are in their contract years so no long-term commitment and both would be pretty decent veteran role models for the youngsters on that team.
I think a Lin/MCW back court would be very fun to watch. Embiid is out for the season anyway. Plus if the Sixers can pick up some young assets to do it, even better. It's really a win-win for them. Sure, there's the tank crowd but they'll still get a decent pick and the extra assets they get back in addition to the extra revenue they get from having two "stars" is worth it. Especially if they get back $3 Mil each from Hou/NY to help off-set the salaries.

I don't believe one word the media says, especially BSPN. BSPN hates NY teams, they don't even talk about the Knicks. All day they talk about all the other teams and Melo but nothing about what the Knicks might do.

I'm sure his agent has considering he gets a percentage of it. lol
True true.
The other thing is that if it's the LeBron "You have to improve" thing that Melo is using, it could be particularly relevant in his case because Melo went on and on about how he wants to win a title OVER money.
So there is a potential embarrassment factor to taking $129M without the Knicks having improved a lot. If he comes after another move, it makes it look less like a money grab.
Cynical a bit, and I don't think Melo is that kind of guy. But coming with Gasol or whoever could give him some cover for his Super Max. Or even if it's less of a PR thing than a personal thing, it provides some justification.
Just throwing out possibilities for this curious delay when a) the Heat can't afford him really, b) the Bulls can't afford him really without a S&T and there are apparently no talks ongoing there, and c) the Lakers can pay him well (though not as well as the Knicks) but otherwise make almost no sense.
oh i completely agree with what you're saying, but unfortunately Phil has been dealt a tough hand to improve the roster for Melo this year. Heck i do like the Calderon deal for one thing. I don't get either why he'd chose LA over NY either especially in terms of winning since LA's ship has sailed as long as Kobe is still there with his ridiculous contract. If he does it's simply to help his wife's career along and nothing more imo.

Re: MeloDrama 6.5: The Prelude
LOL the media framing these decisions as races is so funny. So what does Pau have some kind of hot wheels track set up in his living room and he assigns each car a different team.. then every hour he updates the race?
WTF how is it a race? How are these teams magically pulling ahead? Maybe the Knicks are just pacing themselves in this Pau race? We are waiting for the Thunder and Bulls to get tired before the final stretch then we will sprint to the finish line??????

If Amar'e trade then Knicks pull trigger on Barg trade sending another asset with.
Then Knicks full press for Melo, Brom and Gasol.
If Bosh picks Hou then Knicks have no taker for Amar'e and probably no Barg trade either so also then possibility of Melo leaving goes up a little.
Where? Dunno....
The problem with this scenario is that Bosh might be waiting for LeBron to commit to MIA before he decides on HOU. And if LeBron says he's leaving MIA, then Bosh goes to HOU and Lin is traded to Philly, meaning the Knicks can't clear space for LeBron.

Bron gave Bosh his choice, take less(probably like $12mil starting) in Mia with me or go get yours, nothing has changed so Bosh needs to make his choice already.

The media has been awful. Worse than 2010 IMO.
Has Carl given any recent updates?

Robert Randolph just said if Melo and Pau sign elsewhere, he'll move to Brazil. So at least there will be some consolation if Melo leaves us.

Philly can take on both Lin and Amare, as mentioned. If they add Lin first, then the question is whether it is worth taking on Amare. The difference between the floor and the cap is about 6.5 million. The Knicks can give 3 million in a trade, and maybe even make up the other 3.5 million by taking back a contract such as J Rich (6.5 million himself). So the Sixers ownership could actually SAVE money by trading for Amare. They have to ask themselves whether it is worth the opportunity cost (whatever that might be).

Walked in from an appointment & came right to the board. When I left 3 hours ago,Carl was on the board & now it seems like he's disappeared as I've scanned numerous pages. Did someone make him leave?
