People keep saying that BUT all of our bad contracts EXPIRE in 3-4 years (2020/21). :D

[EDIT: In the meantime we can bring Frank along slowly

Yeah but we could also trade for somebody else.

Or over complicate things like we have been and get stuck. :(

Either way, I personally wouldn't be totally mad absorbing a contract that is 3-4 years if it'll help move Melo. Assuming we get SOME assets in return.

Melo is def going to Houston. We just have to worry about our return. Mike pretty much confirmed it with that comment

It's just one too many damaged goods players. There has to be a limit.

lance thomas's final year is only guaranteed for 1 mil

Oh, I don't want RJ, but I wouldn't cancel the deal because of it. He expires the same time as our other bad deals so in 3-4 years (when our young guys are HOPEFULLY developed), we'd have MASSIVE potential Cap Room and a GREAT core that grew together.

That's the idea. I don't know if they can ACTUALLY execute it tho.

--Mags

Eh... I disagree. The only truly bad deal in 2019 is Noah. LT''s contract is not guaranteed. With that said, Noah will be expiring so it's not AS bad and may be moveable at that point. We only have 52 million of guaranteed committed salary that year. You figure that 2 first round picks add another 6 million to bring it to 58 million. If we're able to move Lee prior to then in a salary dump, we're looking at a total salary of 45 million prior to minimum roster holds. We could also stretch Noahs last year so that we can lower our cap hit by about 13 million. We have the potential to have keep our salary at 32 million before minimum roster holds. Assuming a cap of 105M and 6 minimum roster holds, that would leave us with roughly 67-68 million in cap space. I'm sure that we'll add some other small pieces between now and then. But, adding RJ will take up a pretty good chunk of our flexibility...and I'd kill him if a decent max player became available in 2019 (via FA or trade) and we couldn't muster the flexibility because of him.

Not sure if it works contract wise but something like that I'd go for.

Why on earth would POR do this?

Around the draft they were looking to shed some Salary, doing this gives them a Stretch 4 to put next to Nurkic as well as shedding about 8-9 million in salary

They are going to shed 8 mil in cap space at the cost of a promising youngster and a 1st rounder??

Nope... I dont see it.

You have to get really good solid assets though for giving up the best player by far in the deal and not getting salary relief (really making the cap situation much worse medium term). That's a cost that needs to yield you a good young role player and at least a potential mid range pick. I would really argue that there probably won't be a good enough asset made available by any of these teams to justify taking Turner/Crabbe/Anderson.

I think Phil took the wrong tack by directing the coaching process from the wrong chair but I'm a big believer in establishing a 5-man style of play, even during the rebuilding years. That's much harder with a guy like Jackson in the fold. He's gonna stymie the chemistry with the young crew, not build it.

It's layers to this, Mags and he smashes the whole cake. I'd take Ryan Anderson 3 times before him. Yeah, assets included there too.

I actually appreciate when people expose their cuckery in these forums so I can put them on iggy, it cleans up my reading experience not having to even view their bitchassness....
