Monster game by RJ, solid game by Walker and Fournier. Randle needs to get his head out of his backside.

Walker may be playing too many minutes this early. Rose can play more.

IQ is still struggling but I have no doubt that he's hasn't lost the ability to shoot. He's just going through a bad patch at his point. We need to get him back playing well if only to restore his value as a trade asset.

Burks dribbles too much out there for my taste. That second team offense is not flowing at the moment. None of the 2nd team guards were attempting to get Obi any opportunities tonight.

Win is a win - and this was a game we needed to win given how beat up New Orleans is.

Thibs has completely destroyed the bench offense. Burks is now the default point guard for some reason and Rose has been relegated to SF? in our offense, aka a spot up shooter despite being the team's best ball handler. IQ and Burks handle the ball more than Rose now which makes no sense whatsoever

Isn’t that Thibs’ MO, though? He’ll shake things up game to game depending on matchup. My sense is, don’t read too much into a lineup. But keep an eye on trends and tendencies over a longer period. But maybe I’m off-base.

I would say at this point it’s starting to become a trend. It’s been about 3 games now where Burks/IQ are the primary ball handlers and so far we have seen the disastrous results of it. What was a major strength last year in bench scoring is now a major weakness for the team as the bench offense is now in complete disarray. In addition it’s clearly throwing Obi and Rose off. We need Rose to keep a groove this year so that he’s sharp for the playoffs. Playing him as a SF is just a laughable waste of his ball handling and playmaking ability. Unless you enjoy watching IQ and Burks take one dribble and iso every play ?

He’s actually speeding up though and getting faster. He has a little more pop in his first step and on the hop plus he’s making quick decisions

Whatever. Cheers! We're 5-1 and deserve to be. The haters are gonna be on the bandwagon soon. Fun team to watch. Very little to complain about.

Cheers all around for the Knicks fam!

His PnR stats from the playoffs were excellent, he had solid regular season numbers in the play as well, we just never run it for him. There's always been flashes, he's just a good passer because he's willing to make the pass if it leads to the next pass, nobody else on the team does that, he doesn't need to get the assist to move the ball.

the pass to Taj for the dunk might have been the best play of the entire night.

When you have it cooking to still make the right basketball play tells me a lot about a player.

Before anyone goes crazy and says I'm comparing them...im not.

But he runs the P&R in a similar style like Luka does. Not skill wise but the way he slow plays the P&R and contorts his body and uses his strength to fend off the trailing defender. He runs it at his own pace and is successful.

I thought the same thing.

RJ isn't Luka in terms of the sheer variety of ways he can create angles in a defense, however, when he's coming straight at the defense, he knows how to make the read off his gravity. You can see he's even starting to manipulate the defense, at a basic level, and anticipate the rotations.

That's an excellent skill to have from your wing as a secondary creator. If he continues to finish well at the rim, it becomes even more dangerous.

Nothing surprises me with this kid anymore.

He was saddled with the worst PG in the entire NBA for the first 2 years of his career and still improved.

Every year he has added something to his game.

We questioned his shooting after his rookie year and he came back as a really good NBA shooter.
We questioned if he could be a lock down defender this year on the perimeter and he focused on that.

His ability to get into the paint really never was a concern it was always about finishing but I believe the elfrid payton effect had more to do with that then actual RJ's skill level.

That kid can play defense as Clyde and Breen pointed out at the end of the game. Moreover, the Pelicans' collapsing zone was well-played and it took Julius out of his game. Turns out that Willie Green is a pretty good coach.

They were on point with the Julius scouting report but ignored the ‘Don’t let RJ Barrett go left’ part

I was totally gonna blame you for not telling me to duck. Then I thought there might be a gif for that too! Then I took a sip from my drink and took one for the team! Just keep that gif for the BS we are seeing. 5-1 and Thibs is doing something wrong? SHOVEL!

well we all knew you could get out hustled, out rebounded, out assisted, out stealsed, out turnovered and out shot from 2 as long as you hit more threes than the other team. gotta give em credit, they got with the times.

The driving often isn't new.

The finishing at the rim at 62%+ is new

the kemba for elfrid effect.

Spacing def helps, plus just getting better and better.

I'll still say games like this can only help the knicks, not because of the adversity thing, **** no. Because it shows randle that he doesnt have to do everything for this team like he did last year.

I love his demeanor and seriousness approach to the game, I'd love to keep him but if he'd get us a Dame to pair with Julius, I'd do it.

I still see him struggling finishing those layups in traffic against better NBA teams.

I hope I'm wrong and RJ really turned the corner, but it's my take.

You don’t get it man

RJ is going to be better than Randle
