He didn't say anything that was wrong. He basically said that the deal was a killer because that's what it was. What should he say? "Oh that deal ain't bad"? He'd really be stupid for saying that if people are questioning his intelligence based on the comment he actually made. The deal itself is bad. Doesn't mean that the Knicks shouldn't match Lin (they should). But bad it is still. I mean what can he do? Call out Dolan and the FO for not matching right away? I know that's what people want him to say right and do right? Maybe he should. But how do we crucify him if he doesn't. When was the last time any player went that far? And how many times has that happened? Yes, I would have loved for him to look into the camera and say "you got to match that offer, come on"...but if he doesn't doesn't mean it validates all the conspiracies the anti-Melo group has on him. Honestly, Stoudemire could come out and say that. So could Chandler. Have they?

I think Melo was dumb to say what he said, but there is already been the typical overanalysis of what his words meant.

I don't think what he said meant much at all... but he needs to be smarter about how he communicates to reporters.

If the Knicks do match than they have Felton at 3mil a year as a trade piece around the trade deadline. You can almost guarantee there are going to be a few playoff teams looking for PG help..

But Lin was the one who caused the deal to happen, so criticizing the deal amounts to a criticism of Lin for agreeing to it. It makes Lin look like the bad guy, and I'm not sure if that's (a) completely unintentional; (b) Melo showing his true colors; or (c) the FO told him what to say.

We probably won't really know until Tuesday. But in retrospect, Felton was spotted at Dolan's July 4th BBQ so the organization must have already had plans for Felton way before Houston even made a contract offer to Lin...
