Exactly... take a page from Derek Jeters book. Stock vanilla answers. He just opens up way too much and he doesn't understand that even if you're truly trying to be honest with the media it doesn't matter because that's not what they're interested in. No. It might have been "embarrassing" when that happened but let's be real when he came back into the lineup & Linsanity exploded that's when the media, fans, etc were vultures on Melo, wondering how he would fit, criticizing him with any given chance. It didn't reach a major level until Linsanity came out in full force.
As far as him saying that quote in Knicks fans eyes that's another strike against him, he's reaching A-Rod status & I understand the anger, but as someone who believes players should be more blunt and say how they really feel when asked a question I don't have a problem with it.

Melo's problems with fan perception were always there, way before Lin. There was already a lot of skepticism and negativity at the Garden. If anything, it set the table for Linsanity, not the other way around.
