He'll easily get in if he ever averages something like 18, 8

I don't think he will get 18/8 with a ball dominant player like Harden. He might come close though.

Yeah, I think he could very well be capable of numbers close to that, but playing with Harden just makes it seem like a long shot to me. If he ever makes that jumper consistent though...the 18 points shouldn't be a problem.

 I didn't state a damn thing... you call it a disclaimer I call it a piece of useless information that doesn't differentiate the two in my eyes. The Knicks were 14-10 at home at the time of Kobe's 61pt game.. the players at least had enough pride to "try" and defend their home-court... the fans? Not so much.

This same topic came up on another forum and no one was going to the lengths you're going (after you said as much as I've been saying) to "proclaim" the situations are different... because they're not.

I just think it's ridiculous when someone goes out of their way to insult a fanbase they claim to be a part of. I actually said the exact same thing "I'm not gonna say anything bc the Knicks fans did it to Kobe once too" but there's obvious differentiation...a 61 point record breaking performance being so obvious it's ridiculous.

Case example of inductive reasoning. If x looks like y then y = x.

If there are two men that are armed, one man is breaking in to the other's house and there are two possible scenarios:
A) Guy breaking in gets killed.
A) Guy who owns the house gets killed.
Even though the outcome is someone gets killed, they are not the same outcomes.

Most people in society seem to lack the ability for abstract thinking.

Yes! I keep trying to say to people, view things IN CONTEXT...but I think it's just the nature of a message to oversimplify things. It came up a LOT when people minimized the impact Felton's return would have on the team...a LOT.

My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

I don't think he is just making the statement blankly, he's actually ranking Kobe if he can do it with the current teams setup which includes D'antoni.

He will literally have to be super human to do it on that squad, but of course I dont think that would be enough, but i'd assure you if he did, that convo will never die.

Fans and media today are rather superficial in their thinking...they see rings they think the players are equal.

I've actually heard fans claim that Robert Horry is more of a "winner" than Jordan because of his titles, and doing it on multiple teams, something Jordan hasn't.

And these were people who have seen both players play.

Oan, I did see that other convo....Knicks fans respect and will cheer a great performance, but not necessarily when the Knicks are good.

Just a couple of seasons back MSG was actually advertising "Stars Week", which I think featured Kobe LeBron and Melo.....of course they'll cheer, it was advertised as such.

But 61 is a great achievement nothing close to last night at the Nets....the Nets dont have an established fan base either.

Good point, he asks people on both sides and concept of winning a title with Coach D'antoni as opposed to Phil Jackson is definitely something that gives Kobe at least a place in the conversation. That said, I think anyone with real experience witnessing Jordan's greatness should look beyond the basics of a title count and realize just how big Jordan's impact was. The genuine worry that Jordan could put in a fan base is something I've never seen before, although Lebron could become that (I don't think he will though honestly, might be nostalgia speaking).

I've actually used that Horry >>> Jordan comparison sarcastically...it's terrifying that people go so black and white these days. We're one MVP season and championship away from hearing about Lebron being superior to Jordan from a younger generation (I've heard my nephews and younger cousins try to state as much and it's terrifying. I loved the 90's...but I'm growing to hate children born then (the cycle continues).

Exactly...certain factors make that moment a clear break from the norm. At least enough to warrant conversation rather than abrupt dismissal just for the sake of.

I can't see LeBron ever having that element of Jordan.

LeBron in the playoffs is Jordan in the regular season....once Jordan hits the playoffs he turns into something the game really has never seen before.

I completely agree...But this season, what Lebron has done thus far has been really impressive and if he can somehow mimic it (he doesn't even need to improve much...he's been that good) in the post season against the tougher defenses and focused game plans...then he'll at least be approaching that "there's no stopping this guy...wtf do we do" status.

LeBron has the can't stop status imo but he isn't a killer, he has yet to develop that aspect, but if he'd ever get it, only then can the comparison truly start.

Even Kobe has that factor which is why he got compared so much.

Also there is no way Jordan would allow his team to "coast" in the regular season either, all games were high level alert with Jordan.

Skip Bayless is comical.

For some odd reason he thinks that flagrant was classless....."Just guard the three", he says.

Not that simple, Mark Jackson is making sure his team does not get deflated and soft and was not gonna allow every record to be broken against his squad.....old school at it's finest.

Next week will be very interesting in GS.

Yeah, I liked the message Jackson sent to his team.

Might light a fire underneath them tonight against OKC.

You don't think a 21 point game on 9-24 shooting would have gotten the Garden rocking like it was at the Barclay Center?

Same difference man, same difference.

Yup, that's a must watch game for me, I'll be flipping channels some tonite.

Sure it was, Jackson is coaching GS, not Houston.

He's got a young team he is trying to make a winning team, you send messages all game long.

It's more about what he wants his team to do vs what the opponent is trying to do.

They got the win, it was decided a while ago, yet you're still running up the score and trying to break records.

You gets non of that.

Funny how ESPN has a game today and neither one of these are the game that's showing:
Houston @ Miami
GSW @ OKC

I would rather watch those games than the SA @ Wolves game.
