cmon man. your not basing that on anything real, other then your a knick fan. Hes 19 and wasnt perceived by scouts as a ready now player, including our own. he was drafted on his potential. saying hes the best PG weve had in years, based on 18 minutes in which he shot 1 for 7 isnt logical. he needs time, throwing him out there for the sake of throwing him out there can absolutely destroy this kid before he has a chance. maybe he is that good, but he might not be yet. and kids need to mature, and learn properly. he might not be ready to produce what you guys expect of him out the gate. be prepared, hes not going to start. especially with such limited time in the offseason.
i mean i can't see this kid being worse than rose/felton/calderon/beno etc...
i just can't see him not starting on this team. like i get that he was looked at as a project (that is how i looked at him too during the draft process), but he's really our only option here. it's not like we signed george hill as a vet to help bring up frank slowly like sacramento is doing with fox. we signed the worst point guards in the market. those dudes arent doing sh*t for us. let frank start.
i see u keep bringing up 1-7. come on, that was his first game. yet even in that game, he was hitting everyone with open looks. that's something we haven't seen a point guard do for us in a long time. his defense was nice too.
there's just no one better than him on this roster to start over him. that's why i see it as a no brainer to start frank
its always a bad option to throw people to the wolves when they arent ready. the point of rebuilding is to let people grow gradually. to develop. not have their confidence broke and bust before they are ready. and that may be in a few months, or it may be a couple years, but i wouldn't let him start from the get go. that would be yet another FO fk up. but not even horny will do that to the kid after 18 minutes in preseason. no franchise would, not even the dumbest.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Right, because in all the interviews, coaching reports, the fact that he's been a professional for the last couple of years, etc all point to him being mentally fragile and being shook if things don't go his way.

Burke is a short two guard and Frank N is a tall point guard. No complaints here. This is the type of move I thought we'd be making earlier.

I mean let's see...let the then guy in charge (Phil Jackson) make arguably the biggest decision of the season (who to take with the lottery pick) and THEN fire him. Let a guy who's not going to be the GM (Steve Mills) decide what to do with the bulk of the Knicks cap space (see Tim Hardaway and Ron Baker) and THEN hire a GM (Scott Perry). Where are we? In some Bizarro world?![]()
Exactly this. They really screwed up this offseason. Passing on DSJ and taking Frank is going to be the biggest mistake since passing on Artest for Weiss. It all starts at the top for why this franchise sucks and will continue to suck, even with a tank. They could get the first pick overall and somehow screw that up too.

If you're actually comparing Artest/Weis to DSJ/Frank I wonder if you've seen any of those four play basketball.
Not sure about anyone else, but I don't want my PG to be a ball dominant, no defense playing, low assist to turnover ratio type of player. But flashy dunks, right?

Have you seen Frank play basketball aside from a few highlights in Europe? Have you been watching DSJ actually play?

It's actually been pretty easy to watch Frank play with streams being posted here this past season + full games from U18 being available online.

Right and aside from a few highlights, what has he done to justify being the 8th pick when we could have had other guys who are out there playing well right now?

im not gonna start a frank VS DSJ debate here but come on dude, have u seen smith play at all in the preseason? he's not even close to what you described him as.... i've watched every mavs game so far since he's on my BAF team and he's really debunking all that stuff u just said. just because we have frank doesn't mean we have to put down other prospects as well. u know better man

Yes, of course I've been watching DSJ play. In college, summer league, and preseason. And Frank didn't just have highlights, he had full games in a professional league. Your comparison between Artest/Weis and DSJ/Frank is just way off base. Weis NEVER wanted to come to the NBA, he was terrified the moment he stepped foot in NY and JVG destroyed him. Plus he was just never very good. The difference in skill level between Artest and Weis was much greater than Frank and DSJ. Fact is, DSJ is a point guard who is SO amazing this preseason that he is shooting 40% from the field, averaging a whopping 3 assists per game while playing crap defense. This thread is about Burke so I'll stop now, but the DSJ stuff is really annoying. The DSJ lovers I guess are going to enjoy him no matter what simply because he can dunk, but there is more to winning basketball than dunking.

Aside from highlights from this season? I mean, if you actually watched some of the games from this past season + watched what he did in U18, you'd see why he was the 8th pick. Also, coming from someone who loved DSJr and had him and Frank on the same tier for the draft, the guy is hardly playing well. That's a major stretch.
