Atkinson was not media driven. They had nobody and he made Brooklyn watchable. Give him some defensive guys along with scorers he could probably figure something out with this team. We have not played modern basketball since Woodie.

Bumping it. Read it!

This is a good read about Thibs from a Bulls fan perspective. Talks about if he really ran players into the ground, if he can fit into the modern era.. etc. In summary, he belives that Thibs is not overrated, but actually a successful coach.

He also wanted Kris Dunn in the draft instead of Jamal Murray. Then he desperately wanted Jimmy Butler so they had to trade Zach Lavine and Lauri Markkanen for him.

Thibs was carried by Derrick Rose, his strategy for the Bulls was give Rose the ball, that was it. Thibs yells a lot but he's lost his locker room numerous times with different teams.

If our options are Thibs or Atkinson, the obvious choice is Atkinson

I compare Thibs a lot to D'Antoni

He has a "gimmick" that makes his teams good on one end of the floor that was revolutionary a decade ago, but has become standard for modern teams

It's also the difference of, with the Bulls, Thibs was gifted several really good young players (Rose, Noah, and Deng were all under 25 and all had been top 10 picks), and they played like it. In Minny, he had even more talent in terms of draft capital, but the only one who's really lived up to his pick has been KAT, everyone else has underperformed. With Atkinson, he got a bunch of cast-offs to play way above their talent level as a group. Like, if you went back to 2016 and told us that the Nets would have a winning record in 3 years, nobody would believe you, cause they had no high talent young players or top picks. DLo yes, but they traded for him cause LA thought he wasn't that good and used him to dump Mozgov's salary, but other than that, none of their players were lottery picks

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Atkinson comes from the DAntoni coaching tree and he's basically just copy pasted his chuck and duck philosophy. I don't see Atkinson as some development guru, he just simply understands the basic principle of pace and space and he got it from Dantoni. The other thing is that Thibs coached in the Western Conference and it's a lot tougher out there than in the East. Atkinson wouldn't have seen much success in the West either but since he's in the weak East it's a lot easier to get to .500 and sneak into the playoffs.

Thibs is more of like a Stan Van Gundy type of coach imo, where his voice just gets annoying after a while and his constant yelling causes players to just tune him out after time and really he's not some innovative coach to begin with so his success strongly depends on star players having to carry him.

Which is why he should never make basketball decisions outside of coaching

Yep. If they were hiring Thibs to be the GM then I'd be super concerned.

We'd be hiring Thibs to be the head coach not the GM. Thibs like Jackson had no right to be running a front office cause they had absolutely no experience doing it. My reaction when I heard the Wolves were making him "master of everything" was the same when i heard the Knicks were hiring Jackson not to be the head coach but the front office lead.

After reading some of these comments, I've made up my mind:

Spoiler:
Want nothing to do with Thibs OR Atkinson :D

hot mess in Mini
you can't give Thibs a pass for his time there
What talented winning players has he had in minny?

Sent from my SM-N960N using Tapatalk

he had Butler, Towns, Wiggins, Rose, Teague, Saric, Levine, etc etc

he had plenty of talent, old and young
he didn't make it work
The only winner in that group is butler. The rest are looser with tibbs and without tibbs.

KAT is derrick coleman 3.0 after boogie

Might have. The media might be covering for Leon Rose and Dolan again, and refusing to ask the difficult questions.

I don't think the Nets fired Atkinson other than to hire superstar puppet himself Ty Lue

I think it ends up being Thibodeau dealing with the defense, while Mike Miller deals with the offense.

Miller's a defensive guy too. I'd prefer it be Kenny as head coach with Miller as the lead assistant but I won't be too upset about Thibs.

I dont think thats fair to have the first women head coach in history to deal with personalities like Kyrie and KD.
