You come here once a week and spew your bullsh*t. Shut up. You are getting one of the three because you can't trade Melo anywhere else and we can and will sign him as a FA and you will get nothing.

If you think you are getting all 3, or anything close to equal value from the Knicks, you are delusional.

If walsh deals Randolph for a first round pick do you guys think it would signal a Carmelo deal coming or just getting picks for a deal or assets.

Since Walsh loves Randolph, it will probably signal a Melo deal.

Berger: Nets backing away from Melo pursuit?

Post#326 » by kingofk1ngs » Thu Dec 30, 2010 4:44 pm

Seems like the Nuggets have over-played their hand and have frustrated the Nets enough that they are beginning to reconsider going after Carmelo. Donnie has done a masterful job of not overreacting to all the reports that have come out and has stayed strong throughout this whole process.

From Berger's column (I think it's fairly clear Melo is not signing an extension with NJ and Denver is spitting bs to hype up the market so they can get more assets from another team):

After an appropriate cooling-off period surrounding Carmelo Anthony trade talks after the tragic death of his sister, teams are beginning to get a renewed sense of where the Nuggets are strategy-wise. And once again, multiple sources tell CBSSports.com that Denver officials are sending mixed signals and still appear undecided as to whether they're seeking veteran players who can help them now or some combination of cap relief, draft picks and young players.

As a result of what one rival executive referred to as the Nuggets having "overplayed their hand" in negotiations with the Nets, frustrated New Jersey officials are in the process of "substantively" re-evaluating their pursuit of Anthony, a three-time All-Star who has refused to sign a three-year, $65 million extension with the Nuggets.

No one is fully aware of Anthony's mindset after he's missed five games grieving the loss of his sister, Michelle, who died tragically at 38 last week. But with trade demands that another executive described as "too high and unrealistic," the Nuggets run the risk of alienating the team that from the beginning had the most assets to offer -- starting with Derrick Favors, multiple first-round picks and the expiring contract of Troy Murphy.

The Nuggets' outward appearance of indecision could very well be a negotiating tactic, as a person with direct knowledge of Denver's strategy has told CBSSports.com that the team has decided it wants to get young and accumulate draft picks if and when they decide to trade Anthony -- not attempt to tread water with sub-par veteran replacements whose contracts would hinder the team's future flexibility. The other wild card, of course, is Anthony's reluctance to sign an extension with the Nets, which has been confirmed by a person with direct knowledge of his thinking.

In view of their frustration, the Nets have not yet gotten to the point where they're ready to pull all their chips off the table. But it's clear that the Nets are "sick of the whole charade," according to one source and have "backed away," according to another. And with that, we move along to the rest of the final 2010 edition of Post-Ups:

They should have backed away the first time Melo said no. If it's true that he said no twice, what's the point?

This charade is getting ridiculous. Denver is going to leave its fans extremely disappointed when they have been fueling these rumors that they could get Favors and a ton of picks when the reality is Melo will not sign an extension there.

Why should he try anything new now? If the Nets are out of the race, what other team would he get traded to? Might as well wait until Ujri caves (at the trade deadline). If they take Walsh's offer now, that's obviously fine too lol.

I still think Walsh offered Gallo/Curry/1st on day 1, and hasn't changed it since. Take it or leave it type deal.

If the Nets pull out, then Denver will have to come to the Knicks and accept a realistic offer (Gallo or Chandler, Curry, either Randolph or a future #1) - given their rapidly shrinking leverage. If they would rather take their chances in a summer S&T, they can be my guest.

If I were Denver, I'd be looking to acquire Chandler, and to lock him up long-term.

I'm sure he hasn't offered any other player...Walsh is one hell of a GM. I would rather give up Chandler than Gallinari (Chandler is a RFA and I just think Gallo would fit better), but if Denver takes a deal from NY (as long as we don't trade 2/3 of our young core) I'd be happy.

IF he has changed the deal, he probably added in AR (or a pick) and that's it...wouldn't make any sense for Walsh to bid against himself IMO.

What does it matter if the Nets pull out. Melo is probably not going there anyway, which means Melo is the one pulling them out.

Melo has collapsed at least 2 trades with his refusal to sign an extension. I think they should have gotten the message a long time ago.
