IF this is true, then offensively he'll be the abolute perfect fit for our team. And defensively he'll obviously help. Lets see what happens when he gets into the game.

I know some people hate comparisons, but he could possibly fill a Bruce Bowen type of role for us. Defend the opposing team best wing, and hit the open shots when needed.

Well it makes sense. His form is really nice.

Shumpert is a good player but when I saw GT play BC this spring I said immediately that Reggie Jackson is the most NBA caliber player on the floor. I guess the experts look and see a more well-rounded player in Shumpert. Although I am a GT alum I was surprised he went so high on the draft boards. I'm just glad you guys got him so I have a chance to see him play the next time the Grizzlies are at MSG!

we got a guy that has the potential to be a top 3 defensive player in the league at the guard position. think about that. his presence alone will reduce the shooting percentages of opposing teams and then throw in the energy plays that turn momentum and you've got a potentially great puzzle piece in Shumpert.

he'll get a ton of open shots unlike in college where he was the man. the defenses will sag off him allowing him to also slash to the rim. I think he'll be our starting 2-guard and will be assigned the opposing team's best player or whoever billups can't guard as well.

Billups, Shumpert, 'Melo, Amare. The next piece is a starting C. Doesn't have to be all-star caliber but needs to defend and rebound and hit the baby jumper or finish around the rim when it presents itself. There's guys out there we can get for that role. Maybe Jordan can step in.

Now, the bench becomes stronger with Douglas, Fields, Shawne, and Turiaf.

Walsh's choice came down to two defensive guys -- Florida State forward Chris Singleton and Shumpert. Some in the organization felt Singleton was the best player available, but Walsh chose the latter because of position. The Knicks are thin in the backcourt and Shumpert can also defend shooting guards.

"Internally we talked about that a lot," Walsh said of the choice between Singleton and Shumpert. "Fact is, we're going to have more room at the [point guard] position and 2-guard position than the guys we have at the 3 and 4. I know people say [Singleton] can play [against shooting guards] but it's difficult for guys that size."

so instead of picking who we thought was the best player, we picked a guy for need on a team where only 2 guys are guaranteed to be here after this year. what an astute chess player he is.

So now answer the following questions:

Where is Chris Singleton going to play?

How many minutes is he going to get?

Will he be able to play crunch time minutes?
What do I care...it's rigged anyway

for the record, im not against shumpert per se

i just dont think hes a good pick at 17 (wouldve been fine with a 2nd pick)...or take him at 17, and then wheel and deal to pick another player

???

Those two guys are our 3 and 4 respectively. If you have two guys that you value similarly why not pick for immediate need first and foremost? If for no other reason than that guy gets a showcase for a trade.

because you don't do that in the draft, you pick best player available. if that position is already filled so what, you develop that player and trade him then.

In theory, sure. But what does that really mean in this case, especially since it sounds like the house was divided on this issue. If we're talking early in the draft and there's a wide gulf between two players than sure but it sounds like Shumpert impressed enough so that the gulf is not so wide.

Further, on a team that's playing for something THIS YEAR that development isn't gong to happen with Amare and Melo here and especially when the coach says that he wants one guy. Shumpert's a guy that D' will actually play because he's a rebounding guard with good transition game and spot up shooting ability. And in that regard we have the opportunity to build up Shumpert's asset value more than Singleton's as well.

According to multiple sources, Walsh took a poll of the Knicks' war room, of all the scouts and basketball staff, and there was a split between Shumpert and Singleton. Walsh then turned to Mike D'Antoni, who said he wanted Shumpert. That's when Walsh declared, "Shumpert is the pick" and the selection was submitted.

anybody else kind of happy this is walsh's last pick for us.

Same level of players but Shumpert is the better fit for us.

They really were not sold on Marshon Brooks, eh?

you better pray he can hit 3's early because otherwise mike will bench him for months. and f*ck what mike wants anyway, he's on his last year here. why should he have any input, that's a joke.

We lost the Houston trade. Rockets were on their way down and still ended up almost making the playoffs without Yao!

This is what the Knicks need right now. We got an athletic combo guard that can actually guard. Our back court is looking good assuming that
A. Landry fields improves ( no reason to think he won't)
B. Tony improves (BTW he did improve from first year)

I know people are saying " we should have picked a big to clog the paint. Really? A stiff body in the middle with almost no athleticism will be a foul machine.
We can address the big issue with a vet far better then with an unknown big at 17..

Tony and Iman, those two are going to create havoc and produce a lot of fast breaks for easy basket.
Remember that good defensive guards in the back court disrupts an offense and gets our offense moving.

Think about it guys.. We are one big away from being a really good defensive team...

the records don't even matter. we were bent over in that trade, walsh pretty much admitted it.
