I hope every time S.Perry or S.Mills makes any calls to teams about moving up in this draft and are shocked by what teams want that they think about how all they had to do last year was tank the last few weeks of the season and they could already be sitting in the top 5 without having to trade a damn thing to get one of these legit big guys or L.Doncic.

Memphis has to be trying to retool since they owe Conley and Gasol about 60 million a year for the next few seasons. Also, in order to dump Parsons, the salaries would have to match:

Hardaway Jr, Lee, 9th and 36th pick for 4th pick and Parsons.

If push comes to shove, I'd throw an unprotected 2020 1st rounder but only if Doncic is still available. The Knicks should hopefully be a playoff bound team by than.

except getting a whole coaching staff and a whole team of players (most who are fighting for a roster spot anywhere) to lose on purpose isnt a real thing.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Kawhi is not coming here 100%. The man doesn't even like media in SA. How will even attempt to cope with NYC?

Can't believe DX/ESPN is saying that Knox is our guy. I have post melotraumatic stress disorder (PMSD). Don't want another pudgy SF with abysmal basketball IQ. Should gamble on a higher upside player like Trae or Miles or MPJ.

Suns - Ayton
Kings - Bagley (mentions they're deciding between him or trading down for Porter)
Hawks - Doncic (ownership loves Doncic)
Grizz - Jaren Jackson (says a trade is currently viewed as unlikely)
Mavs - Bamba (Cuban likes Porter)
Magic - Shai G-A (Teams have no clue who they actually like)
Bulls - Wendell (Porter is the backup plan)
Cavs - Michael Porter (may trade up for Porter, also rumored to like Shai)
Knicks - Knox (widely assumed in NBA circles that this is the Knicks' guy)
76ers - Mikal Bridges (same case as the Knicks)
Hornets - Sexton (would prefer Shai due to Monk's relative lack of size)
Clippers - Trae (want a PG)
Clippers - Jerome Robinson (Huerter and Robert Williams also under consideration)
Nuggets - Miles Bridges (rumored to like the Bridges, Robinson, and Zhaire)
Wizards - Lonnie Walker
Suns - Holiday (has drawn a huge amount of interest from Phoenix)
Bucks - Donte DiVincenzo (Robinson/Zhaire are the other possibilities)
Spurs - Robert Williams (they want Lonnie Walker)
Hawks - Zhaire Smith (hoping to trade up from here for Trae or Lonnie)
Wolves - Huerter
Jazz - Grayson Allen (rumored to prefer Huerter or DiVincenzo)
Bulls - Hutchison
Pacers - Okobo
Blazers - Troy Brown (mentions Simons as a possibility here)
Lakers - Simons
76ers - Musa (expected to take a draft-and-stash guy here)
Celtics - Melton
Warriors - Okogie
Nets - Bates-Diop
Hawks - Brunson

The Knicks only won 7 games after KP went down.

This narrative that the Knicks tried to win until the bitter end needs to stop.

You're giving up too much there. Parsons alone is worth a #1 pick, so you keep #36 plus next year's too.
#9, Lee, Lance plus $5 million for #4 and Parsons makes more sense.

Hopefully these highlights aren't indicative of his skillset, because the only thing I got from that video is that he's a good athlete. Aside from that, he doesn't come close to what Luka could do at that age.

A few Knicks notes as we head into the draft:

Tough to trade up: If the Knicks – or any other team – wants to move up in the draft, it will cost significant assets. So it’s hard to see New York executing a deal to move into the top five. They could include future first-round picks in a trade, but team president Steve Mills and GM Scott Perry have placed a high value on those future firsts and don’t seem inclined to include any in a trade. Per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Knicks are one of several teams to talk to Memphis about trading involving its No. 4 pick. The Grizzlies have insisted that any team that acquires its pick take back Chandler Parsons, and the nearly $50 million he’s owed over the next two seasons. The Knicks have told some agents that they are strongly opposed to signing any free agents to long-term contracts this summer. The idea, it appears, is to preserve cap space for 2019. So it wouldn’t make sense for the Knicks to take back Parsons in a trade because his contract would clog their cap for the summer of 2019.

Kyrie, Kawhi: The Knicks hope to have enough space to pursue a top free agent that summer. It’s worth noting that Kyrie Irving will likely be a free agent in 2019. Irving had the Knicks on his list of trade destinations last summer. It's impossible, of course, to talk with any certainty about potential landing spots for Irving more than 12 months away from his free agency. Plenty can change between now and next July. But people around the league expect New York to remain a desired destination for Irving if he hits free agency next summer. And if Irving is interested in New York, you can be sure that the Knicks will be interested in Irving.

Depending on how things unfold over the next few weeks, Kawhi Leonard could be available in free agency in the summer of 2019 as well. Leonard’s advisers view New York as a potential destination for the Spurs star. So it would make sense for the Knicks to try to draw Leonard as a free agent rather than try to trade for him; any trade for Leonard would almost certainly have to include Kristaps Porzingis heading to San Antonio.

What does NYK do at 9? Assuming the Knicks don’t trade up or back, they should have plenty of players to choose from at nine. The big question, of course, is how far Michael Porter Jr. falls. If he’s available at 9, the Knicks will have to think long and hard about the risk/reward of taking Porter Jr. If Wendell Carter Jr. somehow falls to 9, I’d expect the Knicks to take him even with Porter on the board. But let’s assume that neither player is there. It could come down to Kentucky’s Kevin Knox, Villanova’s Mikal Bridges, Michigan State’s Miles Bridges and Miami’s Lonnie Walker. I’ve heard that Knox, Mikal Bridges and Walker all have had support within the Knicks front office in the weeks leading up to the draft. If I had to guess at the time of this post (9:30 AM on Thursday), the Knicks would go with Knox in this scenario.

Due diligence: It’s hard to overstate just how important this draft is for the Knicks’ rebuild. It’s also the first draft for the executive duo of Mills and Perry. From an outside view, it seems as if Mills, Perry and the Knicks front office has done its homework for this draft. Like all NBA teams, the Knicks have either hosted – or traveled to – workouts for many potential picks. They’ve had representatives – assistant general manager Gerald Madkins, who overseas the scouting department, and others - at hundreds of college and international games throughout the season. This is what competent NBA teams do. This Knicks regime also seemingly hasn’t had to fight the same perception issues that New York dealt with during Phil Jackson’s presidency. Some young players were turned off by what they’d heard about the Knicks in recent seasons; one of the top point guards in the 2017 NBA Draft was dead set against working out for New York because he didn’t want to run the triangle offense, per sources. This Knicks contingent doesn’t seem to be handcuffed by those same negative perceptions – at least not to the same degree as the past regime.

Will the Knicks have the salary cap space to sign both Kyrie and Kawhi to max level deals next summer, or only one of them?

knicks trying to shoot there load at free agency before becoming even a competitive team...same thing different year.

Worry about bringing in the best draft pick (if that means taking on parsons so be it). Stop worrying about FA when you don't know who wants to come here or if they will even sign with us.

Kawhi could be in LA and if Boston gets the finals maybe Kyrie doesn't leave either...worry about the draft and NOT potential FA's please. We shouldn't be even in those discussions until we put a .500 season in.

I’d do #9, 2019 top 5 protected and a 2020’s pick swap.

KP Doncic and Frank is a great foundation.

I don't think we are going to be able to get away with not giving up a protective high future pick at all.

I think the most Memphis will do is demanding the 2019 pick is upped to be Top 2 or 3 protected, and if not conveyed in 2019, the "swap" of the 2020 1st round pick (you mentioned above) is voided and the pick transitions from a swap into a full unprotected 1st round pick (no swap, we just lose the pick). I'm not sure if Perry and Mills are willing to do that much.
Revolution starts in the mind...

nah I don't think so. 4 + parsons

for

#9 + lee + lance + x

or

#9 + timmy + burke + x

is the framework. depends on what the grizz are looking for. either get off as much salary as possible or get as good as possible with the trade. the question mark obv is the asset the knicks have to add.
if only we lossed 1 more game...the 8th pick is much more enticing for the Grizz then the 9th pick is.

That win against the Cavs has got to be one of the dumbest things ever.

Apparently you didn't watch who we played that entire game and the lineup they threw out.

Nas is definitely a high level prospect (Melo, I’m working on his scouting video, actually), but Luka is in a tier unto himself. Best SG prospect I’ve ever seen.

Totally agree. Knicks "eager" for 2019 (if you believe the news sources, which might be FOS) is a problem.

Knicks forever want to take shortcuts. Never willing to add a year to acquire assets (like a contract until 2020 for another pick).

Exhibit A why Knicks will always suck

How does a trade like that work? I mean keeping 9, but trading up to 4 also.

You know, other teams are just dying to give us their top 5 picks for absolutely nothing in return. They just want to see knicks fans happy for a change

I think we are underestimating the value of taking on an albatross contract like Parsons to a small market team like Memphis, I wouldn't consider a future first and players to be nothing in return.
