Fournier's inconsistent shooting doesn't make up for his piss poor defense while we already have Brunson.
The starting lineup already has 3 potential 20ppg scorers. Fournier's offensive capability is not maximized because he will not get any shots anyway.
The starting lineup needs a defensive dirty work guy who will likely only get up 6-8 shots per game, likely spot up 3's.
Fournier is at his best getting up 11+ shots per game.
He should lead the bench as the 6th man.
Any team with a frontcourt of RJ, Randle and Robinson requires floor spacers in the back court, and Fournier is the best shooter on the team.
Also Grimes is hurt. And has been hurt for quite a while now.
If he comes back shooting the ball at a high percentage and playing defense, then he should start at some point. But first he needs to play in order to earn that spot.
I hear you.
But We will assume RJ and Randle will hit 3's at a better clip this season than last because let's be real ...there's no way they can get any worse....especially after adding a PG like Brunson to create and open thing up.
And Brunson himself is lights out from 3.
So then what? Do you need 1-4 great 3pt shooters while there's two huge defensive liabilities in the backcourt? No good.
When teams are scoring at will against you, morale drops, tensions rise, and the team plays tight and presses .....and even decent shooters like Fournier stop hitting...
The Knicks had 3 good shooters in the starting lineup in the 20-21 season, and only one was a 20ppg scorer ...they had two awful shooters, and a very potent bench.... and yet they were the 4th seed who played great defense and their offense was good.
Run it back with that Formula: 3 scorers, 2 defensive players, and let Fournier's scoring fortify the bench.
Don't disagree, but who is the great D guy to plug in there? Grimes? Don't think so at this point in his career. Maybe this will be the midseason trade if we're close to smelling a top 8 seed? IQ and or OBi (or Randle/??) for Mr. GREAT D guard, small forward.

Who might be available to us?
