the Celtics put you in sophie's choice.

if you fully commit to defending the three, and you somehow survive the barrage of screens... you probably die a death of 1000 back cuts.

so in SOME sense i understand living with the lower percentage shots. but... i got nothin right now.

Good point. The three is what is killing them tho. Once they get 2-3 in a row game over. They have rhythm etc.

Giving up uncontested 3s to them is a non starter. It just shouldn't be happening but we see White, Pritchard, Brown etc wide open.

I don't understand how they come out so unprepared.

Coach aside- I think this team needs more time together. The are not a well oiled machine YET. Hopefully in the summer they practice together.

I know the playoffs always produce wild emotional swings, but it still feels abnormal that 7 times over the last month I’ve been completely and totally elated by the Knicks and 4 times I’ve been completely and totally disgusted by their performance, with no real in between.

Anything is better than letting them go hog wild from 3

Even if you have to foul a 3 point shooter a few times and make it count

Breaks their momentum and makes them earn it at the line

Makes your next contest more unpredictable … maybe you’ll foul again and it’s in the back of the shooters’ minds

Foul all those guys and stop whining

I wish that shot was more consistent, but at least he isn't dead weight on the other end. His 4th quarter efficient has been great to lean on.

His shot is very inconsistent. He just can’t get hot from outside like he’s the only starter who hasn’t been able to make more than 3 3s in a game. Everybody else has had at least one game where they are on fire except him.

The team only scored 17 points in the 3rd. Hart scored 9 of them including two 3's to start the half but you don't see how they were constantly sending 2 to the ball with Hart's defender and staying at home on everyone else except Hart?

https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&ContextMeasure=FGA&EndPeriod=3&EndRange=21600&GameID=0042400215&PlayerID=0&RangeType=1&Season=2024-25&SeasonType=Playoffs&StartPeriod=3&StartRange=14400&TeamID=1610612752&flag=3&sct=plot&section=game

That is a full 25% of the game where no one except Hart was given an uncontested look. Of course Hart's percentages will be better while unguarded while others have to shoot over 1 or 2 defenders but unfortunately it is a team game. The other guys need to be more consistent but i'm not sure how Hart helps. The other guys are drawing 2 defenders creating easier opportunities for Hart while he is doing the complete opposite.

KAT again ...

How many times have we seen something like this? I still remember a couple of times throughout the season where OG was pushing KAT to guard his man.

Its on KAT, but its on Hart as well...Mikal is literally yelling at Hart to pick up KP and manage the screen. He jogs back doesn't pick up anyone. Mikal is saying I have Horford, you have KP...KAT just see's no one guarding KP and cheats in and leaves white.

Remember KAT isn't some elite defender...Hart has to be better there...Mikal is telling him where to go and he just ignores him which sets off KAT to rotate to la la land.

That's not what I'm hearing, but I'll listen to the audio again. It seemed to be he was pointing KAT to pick up KP while he (Mikal) seemed like he was going to get close to White, but KAT kept sinking into the paint. Hart looked like he was within arms length of Al.

If Jalen Brown is not fined or punished for this, then something is seriously wrong with the league.

Err on the side of the disgust lol

It’s not for lack of caring or talent but it doesn’t work … really

Just being straight

Like, KAT cares and tries — but the stuff where he gets blocked at the rim. That’s written in stone at this point. Not gonna change. And he can’t get off quality outside shots. Both his game and our lack of passing are causes imo

It’s a lost cause.

Just searching?!! Searching is when a coach tries different combinations of players, tries a guy who hasn't been playing. Not playing the same starters heavy minutes. There's bench guys I wish he'd try but he doesn't even use Mitch and Deuce as well as he could.

A guy like Shamet or Wright might come in and hit a shot or make a stop, better than Payne. But because they haven't played yet, he'll be afraid to try them now. It's a vicious circle or a self fulfilling prophecy.

I don't understand how they come out so unprepared.

Coach aside- I think this team needs more time together. The are not a well oiled machine YET. Hopefully in the summer they practice together.

Also, you're gonna get a very different look from a team that comes out without their star and the Celtics still have a lot of good players. I was very concerned before the game that their 3 by committee would be a look that we'd struggle to counter.

They were there fighting for their lives but over the long haul the Knicks will be able to gameplan better for the new reality. I feel a lot better about G6 than I did about G5.

I really wonder how far a team can go with Kat's defense. But playing him more with Mitch would help. The best game we played this series, a big factor was Hart having to sit with foul trouble in the fourth. But Thibs will never reduce his minutes unless forced by fouls.

Even when Mitch enters games late in the first, Deuce usually replaces Mikal same time. Now you have two non shooters in Mitch and Hart together. He should sub Josh out and keep Mikal in, then you'd have Mitch in the dunker spot with four shooters at least. I'm sure there are better ways to reconfigure the substitution patterns

OG is not healthy and that is very scary for game 6 and beyond. He had no lift last night, was short on nearly all of his shots, had trouble finishing around the rim, and although nobody played well defensively, you felt going in if OG can play his usual d on brown now without Tatum Knicks would win, instead Brown dominated, OG didn’t make anything difficult on defense and had zero lift to his shot, so clearly he’s not 100% with the hammy..
