You know if Obama can get cap and trade out of this, I won't be that mad. But the way it goes so far, Obama has done little of what he promised and did a lot what he objected.
Health care: He clearly objected individual mandate when Hilary suggested.
Now he bring in drill baby drill.
This is the problem with this country. Every leader end up doing exactly the opposite of what they promise.

How ironic that the same folks who want to have the LEAST ideal parents, produce babies are also the LEAST interested in ANY effort to have the resulting children become successful adults. Instead, the plan seems to be to minimize education, blue collar jobs, and build prisons, have vigilantes shooting anyone suspicious, then waiving that whole 'Right to Life" facade when it comes to capial punishment.
Who gets an abortion? Huh? Someone who failed to THINK AHEAD? Someone IRRESPONSIBLE? Someone Naive? Someone who does not WANT the job of parenting,or simply lacks the means, energy, abilities to parent? Nobody starts out with "have some abortions" as their long term plan. It is inevitably a matter of picking from several poor options. Constitutionally, a religion based limitation can't be imposed. The GOP knows that it's pretty much a side issue,a false hope that's nothing but bait to suck in a lot of rednecks who have zero stake in the Wall Street/CEO/Multinational conglomerate agenda.

Obama is destroying America one brick at a time. I suggest everyone here start making their escape plans because soon we'll have to migrate away. Hopefully the Knicks win a title before I have to escape out.

While the last administration was overextending America's military, running the Constitution through a shredder, and giving no regard for balanced budgets (hey we were at war, right?), how come no one went around saying that Bush was destroying America "one brick at a time"? That's right, you were told you hated America, and sided with the terrorist if you ever dared to even talk like the above. Oh, and talk about leaving America? Yep, you were told you hated America. So, knicks742, why do you hate America?

It hurts me to see that America is in some ways such a great country and it some way, they're extremely blinded by religion and FOX-based views themselves.
Oh well, politics in The Netherlands isn't that great either. Fortunately we still both live in great countries, but it seems so strange that the Bush voters now massively bash Obama for spending on health rather than war, now, really??
But I hope USA will be able to control it's deficit and the world economy is going to be healthy and stable. 30% yearly profits are worthless if an economic crash causes so much damage to hard-working people that in no way were responsible for the crises.

Here is an article on how large corporations are increasingly relying on unpaid interns in order to cut costs, rather than offer them meaningful training and experience:
http://vaultcareers.wordpress.com/2010/ ... y-success/
I am curious where government meddling is responsible for this state. Also, how does having the students get coffee and run copiers prepare them for the future and see if they would be fits for corporations?

I find it interesting in some circles that they will complain that the rich pay too much taxes, but the lower half of the economic circle isn't paying enough taxes. Because of this current system, I am wondering who would argue that we need more tax cuts and support it. When you don't pay any, that is an issue.
Maybe if the current economic system didn't result with the upper end getting far more of the pie than the lower end, it wouldn't be an issue. McCain lost the economic issue last election when Obama came out with tax CUTS for the lower end that were superior to what McCain offered. Obama actually ran ads saying this. If you are the Republicans and you lose the tax cut debate, you don't have much else to campaign on economically. Apparently there had been an attempt to spin this as "Socialism" when Joe the Plumber took this and asked Obama about it, and Obama responded it would be better to "spread the wealth around". I guess maybe it would be better if the opposite were true, where the wealth doesn't "spread around" and accumulates in an ever smaller set of hands, as it had 2001-2008.

Sorry, buddy but this country was heading to hell in a hand basket long before Obama took office. Ever since the Reagan era, our nation has been regressing & repealing years & years' worth of safety net & equal economic justice in the name of discrediting & dismantling the federal government's missions to help solve our nation's collective domestic woes.
Where are you going to migrate? I'm interested to hear this.

Thank you! This is why I cannot take any of these people seriously. They're party hacks trying to portray themselves as "concerned citizens". None of them complained when NO ONE read the Patriot Act which destroyed the 4th amendment & essentially threw habeas corpus out the window.
What I have found through dealing with a lot of conservative leaning people is no one really has the answer to our country's problems. They know what they don't want but that is about it. If I hear one more person tell me about tax cuts while refusing to acknowledge the devastating effects of the Bush tax cuts I'm going to lose my mind.

Ron Paul says that Obama isn't a socialist, but is a corporatist:
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/04/1 ... ss_WSJBlog
NEW ORLEANS–Republicans and tea party activists are fond of accusing President Barack Obama of being a socialist, but today party gadfly Ron Paul said they had it wrong.
“In the technical sense, in the economic definition, he is not a socialist,” the Texas Republican said to a smattering of applause at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
“He’s a corporatist,” Paul quickly added, meaning the president takes “care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country.”

Re: The Politics Thread - please direct all related posts here..
Based on my experience thus far, I have reached some conclusions:
* The government doesn't do anything to foster people to be self-reliant. When it tries to "help" it does this by putting people into manageable boxes where they become totally dependent.
* There is nothing compassionate about government.
* Government really doesn't do anything to help anyone. At best, it can limit people from doing worse harm through the coercive use of force.
* Welfare is not something meant to actually help anyone get to be self-sufficient, and really help in a meaningful way. It is a program meant to placate the collective guilt and shame of society that there are actually poor and homeless. Whether or not people are actually helped is irrelevant. What matters is that they "tried" to do something, and you provide an outlet for people on the left to demand that it get more money and resources. This cycle of it needing more money is never finished, because no matter how much you give it money, it still isn't able to effectively address anything. Thus, it is a great vehicle for having people who are concerned about the poor actually not have to do anything to help the poor, but feel they at least tried.
* Scrooge stated he helped the poor, because he paid his taxes.
* One would be hard pressed to find a more incompetent means of solving problems than the government. You can't fire it, nor can you have it go out of business, nor can you actually implement meaningful reforms to get it to do what is needed.
* One thing the government is able to do pretty good is taking money through taxes, and giving it to special interest blocks (see next point).
* The only time the government will act in a given area is when at least 10% of the population is impacted. 10% is magic number, because, as a block this percentage could cost a congressman their job. Now, this isn't to say that this portion of the population would be helped, just that some useless action will be taken by the government and the government will talk to that group, saying they are trying.
* File the government to telling you that there is still hope under another empty promise on the part of empty promises.
* Social services are run just like the DMV... except the DMV at least had implemented some technology to make you feel you are attended to. Social services is set up to make you give up and go away.
* Going to the government to help get a business going, would be like going to an active drug user to ask how to remain sober. At best, you are so offended by how badly they are messed up that it motivates action to do things yourself... and maybe they can give you a few bucks to go somewhere (if you are lucky). Just like a an active drug user, if you do figure it out yourself, the drug user will still want your money, so they can feed their drug usage.
* Any job the government creates involves the use of tax dollars. These tax dollars may or may not come from people who actually will need the person who is being employed by these tax dollars.
* The process of getting someone elected today is to make someone hate the one candidate so they won't vote for them, and make them voter feel so guilty over not voting that they feel compelled to pick the other candidate.

It is increasingly becoming the circus part of "bread and circuses" meant to distract the public from real issues. If you can turn it into a sport, then all the political protests don't become means of change, but means of being entertained. And then dupe people into thinking all they have to do is vote... just like you do to pick the person who gets the next record contract on American Idol. In this, who you vote for really doesn't matter.

While economy crumbled, top financial watchdogs at SEC surfed for porn on Internet: memo
BY Leo Standora
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Friday, April 23rd 2010, 4:00 AM
At the SEC, all they thought about was SEX. The country's top financial watchdogs turned out to be horndogs who spent hours gawking at porn Web sites as the economy teetered on the brink, according to a memo released Thursday night.
The shocking findings include Securities and Exchange Commission senior staffers using government computers to browse for booty and an accountant who tried to access the raunchy sites 16,000 times in one month.
Their titillating pastime was discovered during 33 probes of employees looking at explicit images in the past five years, said the memo obtained by The Associated Press.

LMAO.
Mitt Romney can't win in 2012, because "Obamacare" happens to be the same thing that Mitt set up in Mass. when he was governor. Sorry Mitt, you are done.
Anyhow, nice to know Mugzi stops by with a care package from the GOP campaign headquarters. Yes, we need to have Dubya 2 in 2012.... elect Palin!

Your lack of grasping what a political thread in a public forum is for, and how it works, I would say is surprising. But, considering how people who are heavily partisan usually view the world, this shouldn't be surprising.
The reality is that, when you post in a thread like this, that is open to people replying, then expect individuals to reply to it. That also includes me. Anyhow, feel free to comment here that you NEVER want me to reply to your messages ever again. Also, post anyone else you don't want to respond. I will go on records that I won't respond to your message. On top of that, I will acknowledge that this thread here is meant to be a bully pulpit for you to tell the world what you think, and that no one who disagrees with you should ever post a reply.
Actually, want to know what is extra awesome for you now? F-that. I will just killfilter you at this point, so I will never see your posts. We could actually have everyone else do it. In my case, I don't think what you write is actually relevant enough to worry about. You are some punk poster over the Internet, who doesn't really have much to say and doesn't pose a threat.
snarky remark mugzi? For crying out loud, what the heck was that GOP message you posted? In a class on political discussion, it would have snarky all over it.
- Rich
So, there you go folks. This thread here belongs to mugzi alone, and is meant for him to not have anyone post anything counter to what he has to say. So, if you disagree with muzgi, DON'T reply to it. Let muzgi feel he is correct, and humor him by leaving him in isolation. Feel free to do that with all his posts, but mainly do that with the sports one. If you do agree, then feel free to give mugzi amens.
Anyhow, what does one expect, mugzi is one of the "new liberals":
