So far in the past 24 hrs:

Mentions signing Josh Smith and making him PF
Mentions trading #4 and Calderon for Winslow, Ilysova and Henson
And now #4 for PAUL GEORGE

LMFAO. :banghead:

I want to really go all in on a youth movement (read: not rebuilding, rebooting)

The Melo years brought us one great year, and I thank him for his time but he needs to be shopped around NOW. Not our number 4 pick in the draft.

We trade him and any of our fringe players for picks in this draft, and a first round pick in next years draft is a must, and anything else we can get. Being mindful to only take back players on short term and or non guaranteed contracts.

After establishing a young core, we bring in a veteran presence like Durant (whom we preserve cap space for) to basically mentor the team, and impart work ethic and approach above and beyond what Phil is preaching.

I would target the Clippers and the Lakers as destinations for Melo as he has established relationships with players on those teams (and his wife has serious LA ties) and would likely waive his no trade clause and it helps each of those teams. Clippers who are in a win now mode, and the Lakers who have Kobe for one or two more years.

What do you think of this approach, to rebooting our direction?

I'm getting annoyed reading all these things about teams who are looking to trade draft picks this season for vets since have no one at all to trade to get in the convo, other than helping to facilitate trade with cap space. Seems like a good year to pick up a second pick.

Well, we wouldn't get any valuable picks from either Lakers or Clippers... In my opinion, trade with Clippers is basically unrealistic, because everything they can offer us is first rounder in 2019, and we would have to take scrubs on bad contracts like Crawford, Barnes and Reddick. And trade with Lakers would only get us something like Randle and 27th pick...

It really does, and the draft i deep enough where it makes sense.

Look I know Pat Riley got a lot of flak for "player loyalty" when he made moves that sent people out of Miami he lured there with a lot of promises... but at the end of the day it is business. You are loyal to those loyal to you, if they are not getting it done you have an obligation to the fans, the rest of the team, the other owners, and yourself to make the hard decisions to shake things up.

Dump Melo, get back some of the insane cost it took us to bring him here and reboot now. We accepted a year of tanking, we can deal with a couple more years during our reboot of this entire franchise and after years of trying to hold it together with quick fix players and players beyond their prime.... it is time we got healthy as a franchise and rebuilt the right way.

I completely disagree.

You think that is all Melo is worth? The Lakers have high pick in the draft this year, and we would be offering them a guy to sell tickets after Kobe leaves and one or two more years of Kobe chasing his 6th ring... something we all know he desperately wants. (Read: He is chasing Michael Jordan and has been his whole career, and Michael has 6)

While I do not overvalue our players as much as some I sure as heck do not over value them either.

Looking at the Lakers roster they have a lot of guys on short term contracts that could work, and to me it is worth exploring.

Not to mention the Phil and Jeanie relationship.

Deal Melo to the Wizards for Beal, Nene and #19.

Draft Russell or Mudiay and we already have our backcourt of the future. Sign Monroe and Tobias Harris.

D'Angelo Russell (Mudiay)
Bradley Beal
Tobias Harris
Nene Hilario / Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Looney)
Greg Monroe

Young talented team who can all contribute now and grow together in the Triangle.
Chicago Bulls

PG: Kemba Walker / T.Rozier / B.Wannamaker
SG: Donte DiVincenzo / T.Ross / P.Connaughton
SF: Kawhi Leonard / R.O’Neale / Caleb Martin
PF: Draymond Green / B.Portis / A.Aminu
C: Jonas Valanciunas / M.Harrell / F.Kaminsky

Bradley Beal is a workhorse, and I love his heart. Melo also has ties to the Baltimore area so to me this might be something he wouldwaive his no trade clause for... do we think that is enough of a return package for Melo?

I am not sure I support trading down for two picks, it makes sense on a level but to be honest both D'Angelo Russell, and Emmanuel Mudia have star potential. I would keep either of them to be part of my franchise foundation. More over there are rumors all over the place (as is the case every year) with the Lakers and the 76'rs looking to make picks that might shake up the draft order. I would not make a deal to trade away the 4th pick to trade down. 1-4 we have stars on the board no matter how it shakes down.

Example: Lakers considering Russell with 2d pick

Rather have Lawson then the 7th pick, he would crush it in the triangle and in the east.
Trust but verify.

BTW love Thorn's idea. I see the Lakers trading the 2nd pick and another 1st rounder for Melo. Their gm said they cant wait around for the draft....but Dolan will not trade Melo.
Trust but verify.

76ers trade proposal combination of lakers 16 1st top 3 protected, 76ers 2016 first , Mia 1st, OKC 1st and Tony Wroten for Knicks 4th pick rights to Emmanuel Mudiay.

Knicks can build through free agency around Melo and compete while adding potentially 2- 3 lottery picks in next years draft . A win -win situation.

I agree. We have Melo, so we need VET role players, not rookie role players. We need to draft a guy that has the potential be THE guy in a few years. There is a reason other teams want our pick.

How do you know if anyone will even want our pick?? Someone would have to be 100% sold on Mudiay to want to trade up to #4 cause i don't think there's any other players besides him that anyone would would to trade away drafts picks or other assets to get the 4th pick. Maybe Winslow but i don't see it.

I agree. Resigning Melo was a mistake and never should've been done in the first place. That no-trade clause and trade-kicker though.

It's a # 4 pick, and it does have value. Teams will be interested. Phones will be ringing on draft night I'm sure.

It's a tough sell for the majority of Knick fans and I'm an outlier but it's very good value for #4. Wroten is a cheap enough placeholder third or fourth depth guard but will likely never be able to shoot enough to earn legitimate minutes. Turning one of those picks in to something better than the Sixer's top two seconds this year might sell the Knick brass but the fans want instant gratification and greatness from a kid who just might shoot on par with Wroten.
