So...wait...the Wizards are only sending a future second round pick back? Holy. Crap.

Disgusting

And just to think that they didn't have to watch their team lose for two years to get that space.

The Knicks have been losing for more than just two years. Their salary dumping (Randolph, Crawford, and to a certain extent, Jeffries) moves didn't have much to do with their losing. Bad coaching and terrible defense did. Harrington, Hughes, McGrady = Randolph, Crawford, Jeffries. Walsh was fully expecting to be as, or more, competitive after those trades. You would think he would have looked to move Jeffries in a smaller deal if he (the GM stuck in 1999) didn't think T-Mac was going to improve the team last season and for following seasons.

oh my god, get outta here with this crap. You've lived to see your team make the Finals SEVEN FREAKING TIMES this decade, while walking away with 5 championships as a result. So you had to endure a few decent years (I wouldn't call them bad by ANY stretch). Cry me a goddamn river. You were STILL making the playoffs and you still had the best player on the planet on your team. Your brief little fall from grace is nothing compared to what other teams around the league have had to endure. Think about what its like to be a Bucks, Wolves, Golden State, etc fan. The Lakers are the Yanks of the NBA, you might not make it to the Finals for a few years but you'll get back there inevitably

Nothing has been decided. The Bulls are setting themselves up nicely, that isn't the same as closing the deal.

If Lebron wants to play in NY, he is going to. Its still up to him.

I will preface this with the fact I am a Bulls fan, but...

While we are way too high on this deal, you guys are way too low.

Really you have to turn the culture around again. I mean do you remember the Bulls teams after Jordan left? We had some god awful teams really.

Then we got rid of Krause. Drafted just a bit better (Gordon, Deng, Hinrich) and got a good transition coach in Skiles. We hit the playoffs. That started to turn things around a bit. Then we overpaid for our talent (Chandler, Hinrich, etc.) and took a step back. Then came the magic of the Rose and Noah picks and things have picked up again.

You still have every shot at Lebron. But even if you don't get him, you still have a shot at a lot of players who can start turning the situation around. Maybe it is resigning David Lee and getting Joe Johnson. Maybe it's Lebron and Bosh. Maybe it's making little moves here and there and picking up a slew of mid-level guys. Who knows?

It's not a championship, but it's a hell of a lot better than watching Al Harrington chuck up a 3 with 20 seconds left on the clock with no one in rebounding position. That alone is a victory for the Knicks this offseason.

Why would the Bulls do this deal then?

Because every little bit helps. They could be shedding $5M or thereabouts to deal the 17th.

My prediction is that if it's a full salary dump, it will be at least two picks, probably three.

If it's a shaving of $3M-$6M, then maybe just one pick, at most two.

We'll see if I'm right!

Frankly it shocks me too. I must have severely underestimated Hinrich's value to other teams-- it makes no sense for the Wizards to do what they just did.

I would love to know the Wizards reasoning here. I would die laughing if it was because they wanted a 10 million dollar mentor for Wall and a mid first rounder.

This just doesnt make sense. At all....

FOR ALL YOU FAIRWEATHER FANS: PLEASE STFU AND GTFO!!!

I just read thru this entire thread, and I can't believe how many whiny cry babies actually call themselves KNICK fans. You hear ONE sentence of information and believe LBJ is coming to NY. Then you hear a different sentence and suddenly the sky is falling and he's not coming. Is that what us New Yorkers have come to???

PUT DOWN YOUR CRYSTAL BALLS AND QUIT TRYING TO PREDICT THE FUTURE!

LeBron, Bosh, or whoever else will end up playing in the city they WANT to be in, and nobody has control over that.
IF LeBron wants to really play in Chicago, he and his agent and the front offices would make sure that happened regardless what cap space Chicago cleared up or not. It's not that simple or that cut and dry. And IF LeBron, Bosh, or whoever else wants to really play in NY, it won't matter who got what cap space...THEY WILL BE IN NY!

LeBron's choice of where he will play next is not just based on basketball, so please get that thru your heads. If Rose and Noah played for the Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis opened up some important cap space, how many think LeBron, Bosh and Wade are Memphis bound???

So stop being ridiculous and start being MEN (for those of you who are men). If Chicago or any other team makes moves, completes trades, gets some cap space, or whatever else between now and next weeks start of FA, then GOOD FOR THEM. They are supposed to improve their teams. But we gotta stop blowing with the wind and trying to predict the future. It's pointless. Free Agency doesn't start until next week. No player has even gone to visit a city yet to see what their future plans are. Nothing has happened yet. How about we be patient and see how it all develops.

SO PLEASE QUIT WHINING and MAN UP! We've been KNICKS fans for years based on the faith that our day would come. If you're ready to give up now before ANYTHING has even happened yet, then maybe you should consider joining some other team!

Really that is what I think the reason is. It could also be possible that the wiz are trying to get rid of Arenas and they want hinrich to take his place?

It'll make sense if they move Arenas tonight. They'd then be paying $9M for a two-guard who can also take over PG duties if needed.

New thread on the Bulls board: Beasley for Gomes trade. The gears are in motion. This is like a game of chicken.

lol I tried a pep talk earlier but it wasn't half as good as this.

Good work!

lol

It really is a lot of overreaction. We weren't used to the Bulls having as much cap room as we did but that doesn't mean that it's all over now that they are closer, MAYBE very close.

There are still cards to be played, gentlemen. As the above poster said so profanely, it is definitely not time to fold. Steel your spine and get ready for some Donnie Ball!

Bulls are the luckiest franchise EVER!!! Its not fair at all. First they get extremely lucky to get the first pick in the draft and get Rose. Now, they get to pull off a trade that seemed IMPOSSIBLE and will probably end up with a team next year that will win at least 3 or 4 rings. Why does god hate knicks fans

I think your being to optimistic. Your explaining the worst case scenario and even that is still good news for the bulls.

I think it's very possible that this is the reason. But think to yourself: wouldn't it be best to get rid of the 80 million dollar contract FIRST? And maybe THEN agree to take on Kirk Hinrich? Because that's what makes sense to me. The only way to explain that away is to say that the Arenas trade has already been agreed to, but has not leaked yet.

This is a weeeeeeird day.

Don't't give up. What needs to be done is simple. Do something with the Curry contract now. Anything. Even Gilbert Arenas.

The deal can't be consummated until July 8, when Washington will have enough room under the cap to absorb Hinrich's contract without having to send anything back in return.

Read more: http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... z0roIzbQCy

What keeps the Wizards in this deal through July 8th? Why would they make this deal before knowing who will be available at #17? I could see them doing it if they had a player in mind that was on the board. On July 7th, can the Knicks go to the Wizards and offer them something (WC) for nothing if they do not complete the deal with Chicago? This whole thing sounds a bit fishy.
