It matters from a perception perspective. Right now, they are using the Nets to make us move. The moment the Nets are no longer an option (although perhaps they never were), all the chips are on the table and we can call their bluff and get a deal done. Realistically, the idea that the Nets may get him is really the main reason they haven't gotten into substantive discussions with us.

Yup, as long as that Favors + Nets 1st round pick (which could be top 5) is on the table, Denver won't even entertain NY. They'll just wait and wait and hope Carmelo budges from his stance.

If the Nets pull out, Denver will then have to seriously consider our offers.

I think everybody should get used to the idea that IF anything happens, it won't be until near the deadline....

That's a LONG time from now.

True, it could impact negotiations to an extent.

It's really got to be a tough decision for Melo.....

Either this....

Or this....

What will he do? Hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Denver will let him walk than trade him to us. Especially if we low ball them. These guys are immature in Denver and spitefull. No way we get him via trade

If they let that happen, then they are more than immature and spiteful. They are also stupid.

Denver might as well take a shot at a ring. It's a small chance but if they don't like the package they are getting from us, what can they do?

You relize we are dealing with a legacy baby here with the young son of the owner. I gurantee you they see trading Melo to us a a fail. They may regret it but i just get the feeling that they fear they have just backed down if they trade him here especially if it is .30 on the dollar. It would be great though if we get Melo w/o Landry

So just so I understand, they are immature and spiteful if they don't agree to trading 'melo for $.30 on the dollar?

It might make sense for the Nets to give up five picks so long as Harris and Favors stay put, and Melo gets added to that core. But not if Favors is heading west, as is Harris.

"Another problem for NJ, rival exec in talks says: In current multi-team discussions, NJ would give up Devin Harris w/o getting a PG back."
