Get a decent return. Then we can start the multi season tank. I'm excited to not give a damn if they win or lose next year but just watch the players grow.

If we end up taking either Anderson or Leonard, then we lost the trade.

How is Melo not being mature? He has a NTC and is using it. Right now he is telling the Knicks I will play for Houston - Cleveland or the Knicks. That is the option PHILLIP gave him. He has every right to use it. Just like a club has every right to trade a player to a place he doesn't want to go if that player doesn't have a NTC. Melo got the NTC so he is using it.

Idk... Not that I have any particular allegiance to the guy. I do feel like Durant & Lebron have had legit facilitators and legit secondary scoring options almost their whole careers - where as Melo has basically been an automatic double team the second the ball gets into his hands due to his lack of secondary scoring options the likes of which compare to Westbrook or Wade.

No it doesn't. It shows Melo isn't the same scorer LeBron or KD is (which nobody would refute) and it doesn't take into account the fact that Melo's teammates have always been inferior to LeBron's and KD's.

I think you missed the point. That's our long term plan. It's hard to change overnight. 2-3 years from now, our roster will fully reflect the plan.
So whats his point? Anderson will be gone in 2-3 years too..
Andersons contract runs a full 2 seasons longer than Melos. We can start making tangible changes such sooner by keeping Melo in the short term. I def think we should move Melo but only if we get expirings.
Well, Melo can still opt-in.
And Anderson's contract is terrible now, he has too many years and money, when he has a one year left - its just money. I think chances of moving him then are pretty high.
People forget that Anderson is still a decent player. He is not Mozgov.

Then we would be lucky to just get Anderson for him and not have to move any picks just to get rid of him right??
Umm no... we would be smart to just let him expire than to take on a bad contract.

Sure. The Kbicks have also every right to bench him, not play him etc. We'll see how mature he is then I guess. This is only going to get messier....

Because benching him and acting like a baby is being mature. Benching him would be a total Knicks move so that is probably what will happen.

Or... we could risk it and at worse, gain a year. If Melo opts in after all of this, he'd look like a fool and no one would feel bad for him. Anderson is not a good fit for our roster or cap. Idk why you want him so bad. It's a lateral move at best or a step back. The better move is to not take on unmoveable contracts.

I mean it's not necessarily being a baby. We have a plan for the future and he is not part of it. Why give him valuable minutes our young up and comers could be using to grow? Not saying literally give him 0 minutes - but don't give him starters minutes and don't list him as a starter. That'll hurt his ego.

Unless he's injured or being a detrement to the team, the Knicks cannot bench him, without being ready to have the NBAPA file a lawsuit on Melo's behalf. Do people not realize NBA Player's have a union, and that union is pretty powerful?????

Forcing a buyout isnt exactly the height of maturity either. The person who gave Carmelo this contract is no longer here. Mills has every right as the President to do what he see's fit in terms of whats best for the team. He's inheriting the Melo situation. Hardaway was brought in to play the wing. Porzingis is coming back. Lee is still here. Something has to give...

Hurting his ego doesn't do anything but paint us in a bad light - again, Melo isn't doing anything wrong. Anyone expecting him to get 20 minutes is in for a rude awakening - he's probably looking at ~30 MPG. We have no other legitimate SF on the team and honestly, having someone like him will make life easier for Frank's development on offense (the same way it did with KP).
The FO said that the team can rebuild with Melo or without Melo - meaning, they have plans in place. That's all we should be hoping for, at this moment.

With Melo there are two options:
He plays his usual ball this year (forget sitting back and letting young guys take charge), takes ~20 shots, scores ~22ppg, wins you some games purely on his skill, pushing you further in the lottery.
He decides to step back and takes a lesser role, but no freaking way he opts out of 30mil, after a year where his production dropped. So you get his 30mil for two more years.
With Anderson you get his 20 mil for three (worst scenario), he doesn't interfere with a rebuild, and you ALSO GOT 3 FIRST ROUND PICKS.

The union can't force a team to play someone. There's no chance whatsoever a lawsuit happens over this. I took a class this past year on labor law taught by someone who used to work with the MLBPA...there's no chance it goes to court. What would the case even be over? Knicks wouldn't be withholding salary.

LeBron & Durant are two different beasts of scorers compared to Melo.
If you want to compare Melo to anyone, comapre his numbers to someone like Kobe, Westbrook, Iverson.
That eFG of 50.3% is pretty much the same as what Kobe hit during his 2007-2008 regular season. Kobe's highest TS% was .580. AI hit a career high TS% of .567 in 2007-2008. His eFG never hit 50% in his career. Same with Westbrook. Also, Westbrook hasn't had a eFG as high as Melo in 2013-2014.

Yes we do. They also don't get to make personnel decisions. He's a detriment to the team every time he doesn't play within the system. He would be a detriment to the team if next year he is not willing to mentor our young core and be in line with what were trying to do. He is paid well enough to do so.
Do you truly believe he will do that?
