Off the way that he is playing, you have every reason to accept him as being legit. I was a skeptic of the signing but you can't argue with results (unless one is a complete idiot).

He's playing like a third star. He's playing as well as any of the suspects we're supposed to attempt to trade for.

Donte is an excellent player. The way he plays is sustainable, because all of his bag is predicated on actions he has honed to a level of precision. You can't have a jumper like that without endless reps. He already knows what to do in pretty much any situation and he has no hesitation so he ends up in the right place at the right time ready to pull the trigger. The talent is there, but a lot of it comes down to solid fundamentals. He has legit hoops IQ.

Plus, he is FEARLESS in all situations while under the biggest lights in basketball -- whereas Grimes was frequently shook.

He's also four years older than Grimes. Experience counts.

Wonder if they can work out a one year deal to get bird rights and then a big extension after? Or something like that...

that's not allowed. he'd have to wait until the following offseason for the extension.

A lil money under the table should get it done. It happened with Kawhi's uncle and probably the father of the son of Rick Brunson.

And Grimes' name is in trade rumors which probably has him nervous... He's been much better over the last 4-5 games. Playing his role perfectly.

We still need a creator guard for this team..let’s make a serious deadline acquisition. Do not trade grimes. People are taking his on ball defense for granted.

With that being said he needs to be better at jumping for these fakes..
BAF Suns

Chris Paul / Patrick Beverley / Shamorie Ponds
Buddy Hield / Timothy Luwawu / Stanley Johnson
Kendrick Nunn / Matisse Thybulle / Darius Miller

"Best record in a month since 1994"

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned, the Knicks went to the NBA Finals in 1994.

As far as what next? Still look to make a trade to get another impact talent. Now is the best time cause the Knicks won't come off as desperate for another player. Also their players (assets) probably won't get into any better of a light. But absolutely, absolutely, they need more talent. A potent shot creator off the bench (primary scorer, secondary facilitator). Someone that can carry the scoring load without needing Brunson and Randle to be always on the floor and always productive and always healthy.

Now is NOT the time to be fat and happy even if everything says you should be fat and happy.

But this new player has to "fit" the culture... has to play defense... has to have a good 3pt shot... and can't take the ball out of Brunson's hands too much while also not upsetting the delicate balance / rotation Thibs has created... It's a tall ask.

Caruso is my #1 choice. I'm a nut for hard-nosed versatile defense. I would try to get him without using Grimes or Fournier so that we could roll Fournier over to next year.

Brogdon is my #2 choice.

I either scenario, I would keep Grimes at all costs. I don't want Murray because his defense isn't what we need and he may disrupt what we have going here... Same goes for Sexton, Clarkson, etc. I'm sure the front office agrees.

I think if this team was dysfunctional and lacked leadership (bench and in uniform) then yes absolutely, you need to be a lot more careful of who you add. But this team is bigger than anyone that they are going to bring in so I don't think there will be too much of a issue with many of the guys being mentioned and they need to focus more on talent and what that player does best to what they need most. They need a shot creator most. Not a shooter. They have goes that can shoot a spot up or corner 3. They just don't have anyone that can draw the defenders away from those spot up shooters so that when they do take a shot it's a higher percentage shot. Shooting 3's doesn't happen in a vacuum. It's not just about only looking for professional 3 point shooters. it's about open shots and higher percentage shots. Same with defense. The Knicks have plenty of defensive players now. So a elite shot creator that can create his own shot, that can draw defenses and then either score or dish is what they need most. There is a reason that Thibs is riding Brunson and Randle so much. It's not cause he's sadistic. It's because he knows he doesn't have a great offensive system and needs to rely on top tier shot creators to provide that offense. Without anyone off the bench that can do that consistently when push comes to shove, THAT is THE reason why he's playing them so much. Think about it. It's certainly not for their defense right? So the need for that 3rd dominant offensive player (an absolute proven shot creator) is their biggest need for so many different reasons that folks may not be seeing. So who are the top available shot creators and secondary facilitators out there on the market? Those are the guys they need to focus on. They don't need another Bruce Brown.

I think it's about fit, role and style. The Knicks style works better for a guy like Achuiwa. What they need from him is also different.

What are our options with precious in RFA?

Feels like he’ll be a lockup candidate 3-4 years if he continues to show this defense and rebounding

toronto usually loves those long (pause) wings that can put the ball on the floor. i think they just misused him imo and restricted him too much.

thibs deserves a lot of credit. hes been bringing out the best out of our players. brunson, randle, donte, deuce, hartenstein, precious. they say thibs can't develop players but it looks like he knows what he's doing. there's a genius to his madness. lol

Knicks has his Bird Rights so they can match any offer when he hits RFA. If he continues to play like this then yeah he would be an excellent lockup candidate as he can backup both positions, plays a very NY style and offsets both Randle's lack of defense and Mitch's lack of durability.

It's okay to need to mature and gain confidence. NY, Thibs and winning basketball are not easy to navigate for a young guy. He's doing very well. Bu, also, this is why people like Brunson, Hart and DiVo are such great mentors for guys like him, Mitch, etc. They play with toughness, high IQ, resilience and fearlessness... all while remaining humble, supporting each other and displaying the upmost professionalism. This is the perfect environment for someone like Grimes to take a leap.
