Regardless of the result of yesterday's game, I think it's clear that we needed a change. Both teams made adjustments, tweaked lineups, flew around on defense and played at a pace that made our offense look out of date. We aren't at that level. That being the case, I don't know if Jason Kidd is the guy to get us there either.

Cavs won 14 more games than the Knicks, yet got bounced in the first round by the same crappy team. Massive underachievement, Cavs have hit their ceiling with Kenny, time to move on.

But the Knicks beat Boston, Thibs outcoached Mazzulla and brought them where they haven't been in 25 years, but apparently coaching is the issue.

Sell the team, Jim. :banghead:

OKC should probably fire their head coach soon too. They are about to choke the same way the Knicks and Cavs did.... but Indiana is awful apparently.

Thibs burner account.

Yeah totally. I've only been posting on this site since 2013, but yeah. Totally A Thibs burner because I'm not an idiot.

I think Bryant is worth the risk. Just get a veteran coach to be his lead assistant if he needs some guidance during the season.

Dude has put in 10 years on the bench. His philosophy looks tailor made for this roster.

Do we want to unlock this teams potential or do we want to play it safe with a retread? I want this team playing modern basketball.

There was a lot of controversial calls in that game. I don't even want to think about it. Gonna need some time from the Knicks this offseason. I hope they pick the right coach because it seems like they just fired Thibs without even having a replacement coach in mind.

Basically one lucky bounce cost us the series along with player mistakes and missed free throws. It was the players plus some luck on Indy's side.

1) Malone: No, too rigid and ornery like Thibs
2) Wright: No, can't have first time pro coach
3) Hurley: No, see above
4) Bryant: No, see above
5) Budenholzer: No, Giannis rumors too disruptive (unless you really are trading KAT)
6) Udoka: No, under contract
7) Kidd: No, under contract

Who does that leave?

Could it really be down to Jeff Van Gundy or John Callipari? NBA experience, big enough personal brand to withstand the pressure, no close ties to outside superstars to fuel disruptive rumors, not currently under contract with another team. I suppoose throw Mike Brown on that list, although I could honestly see the Lebron rumors starting very quickly.

Bryant is the play.

As for replacement, I would lean toward Bryant. Next choice would be Budenholzer, 2 time coach of the year with 5 championships (4 as assistant and 1 as head coach).

So with the laundry list of reasons that Thibs was fired....that's all you got to justify keeping him?

Yea.... Leon def made the right move.

The system was working. They beat the defending champs but got zero credit for it. It's insane.

The talent was working ...the system was outdated and broken.

Elite coaching with this elite roster puts us on another tier.

I wouldn't describe a few miracle-like comebacks as "the system working". We got lucky with the Celtics. They weren't hitting their normally made shots and blew numerous large leads. They also were missing Hauser, Porzingis and Tatum got injured at the end but they were basically finished by then. Thibs had nothing to do with us winning that series. If anything, his coaching put us in the hole more often than not.

If it was Bryant as the #1 choice it wouldn't be quiet like it is right now. He is available. It definitely seems like they are working behind the scenes on Kidd.

by this logic carlisle shouldn't be getting so much love. pacers are winning a lot of games under similar circumstances.

also why bring up tatum just to say it doesn't matter?
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

The league doesn't like it when distractions occur around the Finals.

Are you saying my logic is flawed? Also, the reason I brought up Tatum is because it did matter somewhat, but since none of us have a Delorean and can change the past we'll never know if the series outcome might have changed with Tatum healthy. Odds are that we would still have won but it his injury is still part of the storyline is it not?

J Kidd it is. Just like I thought. Then we possibly trade Towns for the Greek and mission accomplished.

BKE said Kidd was the #1 choice and Bryant isn't.

Everything seems consistent with that reporting and I doubt they would be doing it if they didn't know Kidd had mutual interest.
