real talk. this was desperation. i've been saying, the time is over for patience with phil. he was gonna get shut out again in free agency again. he had to swing for the fences now. and this was it.

He did. And he didn't trade and first round picks in the process. He may be the unicorn that can mix the future/present that has always plagued this team. Or Rose will turn into dust and we'll just get a high pick.

There is no mixing the present and future. Netw3rk wrote an article about this trade centered around the saying, if you chase two rabbits, you're going to lose both. We can't rebuild and contend at the same time.

So are you saying that he has to trade the picks?

But he broke it down so good, makes sense too.

Unreal. Ppl wanted him gone and now are trashing him for being happy to be in a good spot. Crazy to me.

Well. It would make sense that if they can't get Durant they'll certainly try.

If he wants to contend, sure. But that's stupid and we both know it. He should've used the two assets he gave away in this trade to acquire picks. Marco Belinelli got SAC a first-rounder––RoLo should've been dealt for picks if he was going to be dealt at all.

We're where we are though. I hope he keeps our own picks and uses free agency, etc. for shenanigans.

Big picture I agree, but I think that ultimately short-term shenanigans hinder a long-term goal. I never thought of Phil as someone whose job it is to reel in the big fish. I thought this was going to be a slow-cook, team building process a la MIN or POR. I'm afraid I may have been wrong.

I'm gonna hold up on evaluating. This trade shook up the whole landscape of free agency and he traded neither cap space or picks to do it. If he gets the big one... that's what you hope to get anyway through the long road. You can do a lot with that team going forward.

That's true. My Durant pessimism is pretty unwavering, and so I'll gladly eat crow if and when. Horford would be alluring to be sure, but it would take a pretty meteoric leap from KP earlier than we expect for that core to well and truly contend.

My overall outlook is based on the Knicks' repeated failures to build a team in one summer. In my mind, the Rose trade marked the end of an 18-month period (beginning with the JR/Shump trade) during which Phil was building a team more or less the way I would do it. But that's why he's making 12 mil a year, and I'm sitting here posting on a basketball forum.

You can tell that Rose is ready for this challenge. He wants NY, he wants the big stage, he accepts the pressure. I'm excited for next season

I kinda hope he's not too good because if he is & stays healthy, Knicks are gonna overreact and sign him long term. I don't want Rose long term at this point in his career.

That's more or less where I was at. This business with Durant going to the Hamptons for his interview though... that's really intriguing. That's Dolan's BBQ. He's interested.

When Phil started here, Abe and I had a series of private convos figuring that Durant was the end game for PJax. He's the exact kind of player that Jackson would be target to push from a great player to a champion. The fact that they're gonna sit down together is pretty f'n exciting. All of this preliminary stuff is setting up getting him in the room and once he's in the room... you have Phil Jackson telling him how he's going to create a champion out of him.

If he misses - yeah, Horford or Batum would be nice. Maybe they'll just get some 1 years though and kick the can for the next ridiculous scenario.

I don't trust his health. We need a good back up for rose. Jeremy lin or delevadova. Still hoping for KD
