Knick fans are a riot. You complain about not having defense. The Knicks draft defense and then you complain about the guy not being a good enough shooter...

BTW don't know if he was faking the funk, but Carmelo then said something positive about the pick later on in his twitter...

we should, you're right. mike has shown such an amazing ability to use guys he's given. can't wait to see shawne willaims defending dwight again this year.

Roger Mason was a guy who was signed for one reason and one reason only, to shoot the ball, he's a **** defender, **** passer, **** playmaker, **** rebounder but he was supposed to be our Eddie House. Well you know what happens to pure shooters that can't hit a shot? They get **** benched. I mean if we drafted Jimmer and all of a sudden he couldn't hit a 3 in warm ups I'd have no issue with his minutes getting cut until you can help him get his head out of his ass. Shumpert is like Jeffries, like Fields, like Chandler, like Turiaf, he's not going to be on the court as a shooter, he'll get some shots but that's not his primary function nor will it be his priority on the court, so if he's not shooting great Mike will live with it. It's not as big of a deal as if your guy who's only use is as a floor spacer can be completely ignored because he's beyond ice cold. It's the same reason Kyle Korver's minutes fell for the bulls, he was out there to hit shots and keep the defense honest and try not to get blown past on every possession but when he got cold following the Pacers series he found himself getting less and less PT.

Toney Douglas, Bill Walker and Jared Jeffries where the 3 knicks who were on the team last year and made it to the end of the season. Let that sink in, everybody except for those 3 were new to knicks. Give it time we've undergone some ridiculous turnover leaving us with absurd gaps in certain positions. Mike did a good job squeezing wins out of the hand that he was dealt. And please name the superior coaches who have shown the ability to have even a fraction of the success Mike has had in the NBA already. Short of Adelman there's not a coach available who I would actually argue is a better coach than Mike without having to start lying.

simmons grantland piece related to NY

9:10 -- The Knicks are on the clock, followed by the obligatory full-body massage of Donnie Walsh by everyone at the ESPN table. If Donnie crapped into his hand and whipped it at Rachel Nichols right now, the media would gush things like "the great Donnie Walsh has done it again!" and "Another savvy move by one of the classiest guys in sports!" It's unbelievable. I need this explained to me at some point.

9:12 -- The Knicks take 2-guard Iman Shumpert at no. 17 (huh?), followed by lusty boos from the Knicks fans in Newark, the obligatory shot of a confused Spike Lee, and David Stern blessing the pick by saying, "Iman is not with us tonight." Ooooof. So to recap: Donnie Walsh made Landry Fields untouchable over Danilo Gallinari, then four months later, picked someone who plays the exact same position as Fields. Another savvy move by one of the classiest guys in sports! By the way, can someone loop every confused Spike Lee draft reaction on You Tube? Don't we have enough for a 90-second clip at this point?

9:14 -- Spike on the pick: "I believe in Donnie Walsh, so that's his pick, we're gonna go with it, we have no choice." Only the Knicks can make their fans sound like hostages.

We didn't choose Fields over Gallo. They wanted Gallo over Fields. They had Afflalo and Forbes, 2 players with the same style/role as a Fields. Gallo provided the much needed supplement of firepower and potential to become a #1 or 2 option.

i wasn't all that high on him; he didn't make any sense for us, had he'd gone before the debate probably would have been shump or brooks, and considering the coach mike is, he could just as easily said brooks.

This pick has my seal of approval. He has good mechanics and shooting potential as evidenced by his 80% FT. He has the ability to become an elite defender, and seems clearly to be the best athlete in the draft (well maybe he and Bismack), as well as being big enough to play the 2.

His shot selection should improve in the NBA because he's not going to be among his team's first options. He doesn't seem like he has had good coaching up until now. Hopefully Phil can help him in 2012.

He works hard and is a good kid by all accounts.

DraftExpress said he has shown flashes of excellent court vision. But tries to be too fancy at times. Again, good coaching at the NBA level will help this.

He's from Georgia Tech and we all know how well guards from GT have worked out for us ;)

Seriously though, we drafted on physical potential and upside and that's a good thing. He seems like he can defend the wings in the NBA tomorrow if need be. He only needs to be an adequate offensive player if he can defend at a high level. Maybe he'll become better than adequate offensively -- he has the gifts to do so.

He's an exciting gamble.

*shrug* That trade opened up the cap space for 2 max FAs which sold Ama're on coming to NY alongside the max offer we were able to offer him. While we struck out on gettting that second max in FA what we got out of that second max slot ultimately played a big part in the Melo trade which brought in that second max. Cause and effect bitches.

You wanted to know didn't you? That's why you asked? Or are you one of those people who likes to be ignorant and then gripe about how things that they are ignorant of don't make sense to them?

yep. that was one of my pet peeves as well. we needed that guy, especially if we're gonna match up with the heat.

I'm damn tired of D-rose or D wade or Kobe coming in and having the crowd eating out of their laps... now we got a dog (finally) to sick on them, pick their pockets and then yoke on em'....

I agree with you but dag you guys think this dude is Ronaldo Bulkman on offense.
Funny thing is when a player like David Lee ave 20 per game under Mikes D offense then everyone starts crying "he is a product of the system" FINE.. But what about his dud being an under product of the system he was in? This dude will flourish under this system and will do more scoring then you think.
I don't want a Bill walker I want a guy who wants to dunk all the time. Enough with software Guards. Give me an athletic guard instead of a spot up shooter all the time.
