Met a few of the US Olympic team tonight in a club over here in the UK. I asked Melo if he had spoke to Grunwald and if they were going to match that 'ridiculous Lin contract' and he burst out laughing and shook his head.

Security were not letting people take photos but I managed to get this one of Melo and James Harden from a distance.

Sounds like you missed the last decade.

Rangers are doing awesome because Dolan never hesitates to open the check-book. Same thing he's doing with the Knicks. This was a BASKETBALL DECISION. We have 3 PGs on this roster better than anyone who played PG for us last year.

A 28 year old out of shape PG, a 40 year old PG on his last legs, and a 35 year old PG with no NBA experience? Sounds questionable.

You want to blame anyone, blame the GM. He made this decision. A great decision btw. Lin coming back would have imploded the locker-room, do people not realize how impossible extension negotiations would be with Shumpert 2 years from now when Lin is making 15 million a year to not play at all?

Dolan had final say in the decision to match Lin. It was pretty clear something caused a change in the tides all of a sudden that made the Knicks want to throw in the kitchen sink to hasten the Felton trade. And I bet we will tell Shumpert the same thing we told Lin - go out and find your market value first.

Dolan is a great owner? Wow, Rutgers, just wow.

Can you enlighten on why and how he's so great please? I'd love to hear it.

unbelievable... winning the bird rights case seemed like a godsend at the time... knicks can resign novak and lin plus keep the mle!! that's great right!?!!? wrong. the only benefit the knicks received was the right to overpay novak and let lin walk for nothing.

couldn't the knicks at the very least done a sign n trade to get back something? a draft pick? a tpe or anything of value? letting lin go for nothing is completely idiotic. i just don't get it at all.

Melo, JR, and STAT for a fact didn't think much of Lin. And, they were all jealous!

Thank you for sharing that story... but I knew it without the story. I could tell all along...

This Knick team and organization is going to get what they deserve- watch, karma is a motherf**ker...

He spends money, has no issue spending money, and enjoys spending money.

You can't say that about Chicago's owner. The owner who is dismantling the #1 seed in the East two years in a row because he's too cheap to pay the tax. The only owners better than him in the NBA are Mickey Arison and the Buss family. Arison spends money just as excessively except his franchise doesn't actually make money (so he's much more committed to winning at all costs). Buss family is Dolan spending with a better core.

This was a basketball decision about whether or not Lin was a better player than Felton. He's not and they made the right call. There is a reason we said we were going to match an offer sheet no matter what it was until we traded for Felton.

Felton is going to put up better numbers per 36 than Lin will, the Knicks winning percentage is going to increase more than the Rockets will compared to last year, and the Knicks will have homecourt in the playoffs while the Rockets will be playing golf.

The only thing you can fault Dolan for is his loyalty to his executives. It has paid huge dividends with Sather the GM of the Rangers, it falled miserably with Isiah, and is working really well with Walsh/Grunwald.

Felton has a streak of great games and most of you will be singing a different tune. Happens all the time.

Spending money = great owner?

So hiring the right management and not meddling in teams' affairs is not part of an owners job?

I don't know how anyone can stand up for dolan, HE always finds a scapegoat.. he's never admits his faults or wrong doings, he just keeps repeating them.

He hasn't made those mistakes in almost 6 years now. Isiah and before him Layden have been long gone, and Grunwald/Walsh are doing an excellent job.

Our team at the end of last year was

Lin/Davis
Shumpert/Smith
Melo/Fields
Amar'e/Novak
Tyson/nothing

our team going into the playoffs this season will be

Kidd/Felton/Prigioni
Shumpert/Smith
Melo/White
Amar'e/Novak
Tyson/Camby

that is a huge upgrade and our bench has gotten even stronger. All this bitching is going to go away when Lin fails just like all the bitching went away when Gallinari failed.

*edit* actually comparing him to Gallinari is disrespectful to Gallinari. Gallinari was good enough to get drafted in the top 10 and actually has a high ceiling (though he'll never reach it).

The better comparison is all the bitching about Mozgov when he was traded. Both around 23 years old, undrafted players, filled with fake hype and unrealistic "potential" made to look better than they are by a gimmick D'Antoni system only to be never heard from again.

Worst part about this whole situation is that wife won't watch the games anymore, now I'm gonna have to sit through Lamar & Khloe and DVR the game.

What has Grunwald done exactly? He gave a max contract to Tyson after using his amnesty on an expiring deal and has now filled out the roster with 40 year old guys and a fat PG.

Where are you getting 6 years from? 6 years is 2006. Isiah was still running the show in 2006. Even since Isiah has been gone he's made irrational moves (Carmelo, Lin) that have hindered the development of the franchise and led to a respected GM to quit (Walsh).

James Dolan is a failure of an owner and always will be. He is unfathomably stupid, arrogant, ignorant, a contrarian to a fault, paranoid, power-hungry, and incompetent. James Dolan took over the reigns in 1999. Has it surprised you at all that the Knicks took a nose dive soon after his arrival? It's not a coincidence. A series of bad management decisions has led us to this. What has he done in 13 years? Build a team good enough for a 2nd round exit at best?
