"However, their young core, even after Russell signed in Phoenix, is one of the most exciting in the league, and with their 70 million in cap space, they are poised to be players in FA and trades for years to come. Truly a model franchise"

Knicks version:

"Knicks struck out in FA. They suck. Nobody wants their money. All kinds of money, but no direction. Truly a lost franchise. Dolan has ruined this team with him meddling. They got played. ha ha."

So quiet around the Knicks..... Frank, Butler, Kawhi, RJ, Mitch is still one of my hopes.

We haven't heard about Beal in a while either. Could we get him without including RJ or Mitch? I mean he's young. Make such a deal and sign Randle plus one top free agent if Kawhi doesn't consider us.

Anybody else seriously irritated that the warriors are looking to sign and trade kd? Kd coming off an Achilles injury many feel could’ve been prevented and they are still trying to milk everything out of him as if he didn’t willingly go to a 73-9 team. FOH! The pride in me wouldn’t want to give them **** if kd has his mind set on NY.

But it's also worth noting that Kobe was older when his injury occurred. Durant won't be that age until 2023, which would be after a potential 4-year contract is finished.

The fact he's not even going to play in the first year and probably load management year 2 makes me more comfortable with the whole thing, because we can continue the rebuild and he can be a mentor the kids. Best we can hope is he is still pretty good and we try to contend the last 2 years of his contract, worse case scenario he's totally washed the last 2 years but I still feel like we have the flexibility to get out of that situation without doing too much damage

Yup. We have no way of knowing for sure, but the opportunity cost may be pretty low if Durant's contract isn't preventing us from making other major moves.

If we do sign him, I'd look at year 1 as the same as not signing him, as we could still develop the youth and try for a decent draft pick. So then after that it's a 3-year deal, and as you said we have some flexibility with future draft picks and whatnot to hedge against the possibility that he's totally done after this injury.

If KP hadn't said he didn't intend to stay in NY, I wonder if we'd be having similar conversations about maxing out a guy coming off an ACL injury and being locked in for 5 years.

Here's an opinion. This post sucks.

Spoiler:
:D Just kidding! Eh - good player, but would need a lot of $ and doesn't fit the Knicks in terms of where they are in their rebuild - ie securing that dynamic perimeter player first, which the NBA has mostly always been about, but especially last 20 years

yeah thats fair...if The KD/Kyrie pair happen do you think there will be other roster moves now that were assumed KD was healthy...or do you think the injury changes things?

Very interesting question. Personally, I wouldn't make too many moves, but I do think they would want to give Kyrie some support in the short term.

So I would expect to see one more move to add another vet if we land KD and Kyrie.

this i find the most interesting question now. Because you want to get kyrie some help. Some people think this will be homerish because I like frank. But Frank compliments Kyrie and the roster more than DSJ does coming off the bench? If you can get a decent vet or a future piece for DSJ I would do it because where does he fit next to Kyrie.

Report: Hornets offered Kemba Walker $160 million – about $61 less than projected super-max

Kemba Walker is eligible to re-sign with the Hornets on a five-year super-max contract that projects to be worth $221 million.

Instead, he sounds increasingly likely to join the Celtics.

Stephen A. Smith on ESPNews:

My sources tell me that Kemba Walker has informed the Charlotte Hornets and Michael Jordan he does not want to be there. He was offered a five-year deal. It wasn’t the super-max deal he was qualified for. It was somewhere in the ballpark of 160-plus million.

Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN:

Kemba Walker is poised to commit to the Boston Celtics on Sunday night when free agency opens. He has essentially left Charlotte in his rearview mirror. They were too far apart on a contract.

This still feels like Walker trying to pressure the Hornets into offering more money. The rhetoric sounds just a little too strong.

Walker’s max with the Celtics projects to be about $141 million over four years. So, he’d be leaving about $19 million on the table. However, that’s a shorter deal, so he’d have a chance to recoup some of that money in four years.

Will Charlotte buckle and offer Walker more? I’d be shocked if he gets the full super-max, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he extracts enough money to stay. There’s plenty of room for compromise in the $61 million difference between the super-max and the offer.

But the Hornets are correct to tread lightly. Though it’d be difficult to lose the greatest player in franchise history and someone who has embraced the Charlotte community, this is not some great era the Hornets would be ending. They’ve only sometimes made the playoffs and never won a series with Walker in his prime. They have extremely limited avenues to upgrade around him, especially because Jordan refuses to pay the luxury tax. It will get even harder as Walker – a 29-year-old small guard – ages.

The risk is lower for Boston, which would have to pay him less and already has a solid supporting cast assembled. Plug Walker in for Kyrie Irving, and the Celtics should keep humming – maybe with lower championship odds, but with improved chemistry that should help over the long regular season.

He's that tier 2 guy that I'd like us to gather more info on... dude's a hard-working guy who gives 100% He can do a little bit of everything. Can he play PF? IDK... it's just that I don't want us to hinder Mitch's development

I'm just glad Porzingis doesn't get 30+ million from this team going forward. There isn't even a chance now and that's a great thing.

The problem is kyrie doesn't compliment the others. I want no part of this ballhog.

Even if you are a delusional dude like Kanter, why would you throw another NBA player under the bus to prove your point?

I'm glad he got dismantled.
