You're critiquing the player. Thibs offence sucks. That's the problem with Randle right now. Put him in a better offence and he will be fine.

Knicks play 4 out with their non scoring centre on the dunker's spot. Aside from chucking 3s they have Randle pick and post. But Noel or Robinson's man plays off them in a zone cutting off Randle's passing angles. The bigs don't lift or leave to set off ball screens. And nobody else moves in the offemce.

I don’t know that all Randle needs is a better offense tho. The pelicans even bought him off the bench so he could run with his own unit instead of playing with AD and sharing the load

That's his best role.

Randle and Zion play the exact same game. Zion just jumps. The Pels kinda figured an offence for Zion. Randle can be the same.

To be fair that’s not a great comparison not only do their play styles being different but also it negates your point since the pelicans have been trash with Zion

They've been trash because their FO is incompetent and they've surrounded their best player (Zion) with players who actively hurt his game.

They have the most devastating roll man in the league, and they've given him scrub PGs who can't shoot off the dribble. plodding 5s who kill their spacing, and an ISO artist on the wings in Ingram.

Randle and Zion play the same position and they certainly can't play together but their games are nothing alike.

Here's my last ditch starting lineup with this group.

Rose
Randle
Noel
RJ
Fournier

Put Burks back with the second unit.

Burks
IQ
Grimes
Mitch/Obi
Obi/Knox

If this doesn't work between now and February 1, 2022, then try and deal Randle and Fournier and maybe even Noel and/or Kemba.

eeehhh. Rokas is doing pretty well for BCN so far, and definitely scoring more (literally - the pts from the baskets he makes) than expected.

I’m not saying I know what he’ll become, but when a guy is producing for a top international team and his tape looks as good as his my inclination is to at least be hopeful and not disparage his potential

Yeah, I know Rob was schticking but I’m superstitious like that

Jokes aside I am intrigued by him and optimistic that he might be something in the nba. Maybe not future star but looks to be potential there. Kinda wish he was on the team already

I agree with your assessment but I also think you’re being a little too generous with Randle. He looks so lost out there on the court. A complete loss of confidence and inability to assimilate his game with the team. Moreover, Fournier and Kemba were poor additions, apparently. I was hopeful at the time of the signings but it just hasn’t worked out.

I hope we understand the fallacy of sunk costs.
Randle is lost out there. But he's playing a role in a bad offence. He can't his shots any more and there are no other reliable scorers and he can't get space on the block.

Does anybody look good in this offence?

a competent franchise would now deal one of burks/rose/fournier and give grimes, deuce and IQ as much time as possible.

we are probably looking for a marginal veteran upgrade at the deadline.

could you imagine spending 96 mio on 2 backcourt players and downgrade from Payton and Bullock?

Or just rewprk the minutes. Grimes isn't on anybody's scouting report yet. He has been ready behind the scenes.

They may also have wanted to hide him until the 15th to avoid trade requests.

I can't see how Grimes doesn't break the rotation, though.

Mitch’s ceiling is like that ceiling that’s coming down to crush Indiana Jones in temple of doom it’s just been getting lower and lower ever since he stepped foot into the league. I anticipate he’ll just continue the 4 year trend of getting worse every year

I think Knox will have a better post Knicks career than a Frank. Won’t take much I know but if he can get another contract and do better than 5 mins: 0 0 0 0 0 0 he’ll have him beat. We put him in there cold for one game and makes 5 3s with no chemistry or anything. Great use of a #8 pick just don’t play them for 3 years

I'd change this up a bit:
Rose
Randle
Noel
RJ
Grimes

In the second unit,
Burks
IQ
Grimes/Fournier
Mitch / Obi
Obi/Knox

This has the advantage of adding Grimes' scoring to the first unit and using Fournier as a 3 &D (D??) sniper in the second unit. It helps to overcome our lack of a point guard and reduces the load on Rose in the first unit. WIth a real scorer, Randle may be able to pass out of double teams with more confidence.

And maybe Grimes can teach Randle how to shoot over 6'4" guards without having to do a fall-away or driving into the shorter defender.

On this team which is in need of consistent 3 point shooting I don’t see why he isn’t in the rotation. It’s the one thing he can do relatively well with more possible upside rather than vets like Burks Fournier Gibson etc

We can keep analyzing who needs to stay and who needs to go, but the reality is until this franchise truly addresses the weakness of this franchise for the past 45 years of zero point guard, nothing will be fixed. Rose is a scorer, not a point guard, the need for a point guard to control the offense, make the right decisions, take/demand the ball from Randle, set them up in the right set, get the ball to the hot hand, it doesn't matter who they trade for..

Let's just hope we can acquire another future second-round pick for Knox.
