I mean let’s call it what it is — Leon and Thibs are intentionally running their players into the ground to see what happens.
And don’t mistake my tone for criticism. Hell, it might work. Hartenstein leading the league in miles run at 7 feet tall is reckless AF and absolutely ridiculous, but the man might end up making generational wealth while helping the Knicks contend for ECF.
The brass at MSG is going for it, and the odds don’t seem great that these players will stay healthy. But hey, it’s a business and each playoff home game generates staggeringly astronomical amounts of revenue. So here we are.
Formula: 4 guys stand in a circle and watch the 5th guy cook on offense. Randle and Brunson get a pass on defense while the other 3 guys work twice as hard. This is the formula for 50 wins and a puncher’s chance in the first and second round.
You all really believe Thibs playing some guys 3-5 minutes less is going to prevent injuries?
It's about wearing them down over the course of many games. That rest adds up. You don't want to go into the playoffs fatigued, while other teams who were properly rested come out with crackhead playoff energy and outwork us.
This is not baseball. For every second on the court, basketball is non-stop running, jumping, shifting weight, bumping, pushing, falling, etc. (unless you're Julius Randle).
Over the course of 82 games, things can wear out from overuse without sufficient time for the body to repair itself... injuries can happen.
