They said he doesn't play defense. You see those blocks?!?! His "non-3 point" scoring was impressive here also. Some nice finishes around the rim, putbacks etc.

We needed this tough, versatile scorer who can also defend.

Mitch can literally put up that stat line against Poland. Including the 3s.

Did that fool in the video say 'in the rotation here and there' and 'spot minutes'? Clueless mofo...seriously

Re: Shams: Knicks, Guerschon Yabusele agree to deal
Yabasule was an excellent pickup because the Knicks will be able to play 5 out at times, but also because they won't lose spacing or passing when they sub out various bigs; they might add to it.
Yabu is basically the backup 4; I guess he could start, but IF he did (unlikely), it would be a starter not playing major minutes because the Knicks would still be looking to find minutes for Mitch (probably starting) Hart (also could be starting), and even Clarkson and Deuce can be affected by how many minutes the Knicks gave Yabu, where OG and Bridges get pushed to the 3 and 3 in bench lineups.
Mitch.Sims.Gibson.Precious.Hukporti. Now think about the dimension that Yabu gives them instead of those guys. Yet Mitch is still here to do what he does best, play defense, rebound on both ends.
Yabu plays a smart fundamental game with toughness like Taj did, only Yabu isn't 58 years old. Yabu can bring it up the floor, pass, bring some of the Precious game on offense, minus the same level of defense. Play some small ball 5 like Taj and Precious did. Not too much, but some. Have the half court ability of young prime Taj while actually being able to make a 3, something Precious was barely able to do.
Yabu can bring some rebounding and toughness like Sims or Hukporti did and do.
Yabu has a well rounded offensive game compared to all of those guys. And he's a solid 3 point shooter. And he attacks closeouts better than all of them.
Knicks lacked this for all of Thibs tenure, for the last 5 years. A backup 4/5 who can hit outside shots and isn't a zero on defense.
Now when Knicks sub out Hart, they can go taller and still have some ability to push the ball and shoot from outside. They can sub out Towns and still go 5 out - again, not for too long.
If they have a decent lead, they can rest OG longer and the offense won't be a sh*tshow.
He's not some awesome player in that if he was, he'd be getting a lot more money.
But some FA reserves are worth it and kind of undervalued at signing. Like iShart was.
He gives the Knicks needed bench depth and flexibility.
He'd have been a good signing for any team but was a particularly good signing for Knicks based on price, need, fit.

PJ Washington got 4 years, 90 million.
A more proven commodity. Absolutely a better defender.
Is he REALLY 17 million more per year better? He's better, but Knicks got a bargain in Yabu. Does 85% of PJ for 1/5th the price.

I'm still curious what his defense looks like at the 4/5. If he can be at least close to an average defender this could be an incredible deal but if he ends up being a liability on that end I can see why he was only offered $5.5M.

Honestly can't be worse than Hart guarding the 4.

Let’s not forget those 36 points were scored against Gdańsk shipyard workers
