NYK practice today: Amar'e worked full, so did Chandler. Curry away for "personal reasons" again. No Turiaf, questionable Friday

So correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't it interesting that there has been no leaked news today? You figure if they were having issues, some team would have leaked something to create some leverage. If someone walked away, it would be all over the place because it would be leaked to create leverage. So no news, literally. Just guys speculating that the Knicks need to trade everyone and everything for Melo. I think this is a good thing. -Jitpal

Seriously whats the deal with that huge brace he wears. I thought all he had was meniscus surgery and that was a year ago. I see dudes coming back from microfracture, torn acl and mcl and they dont wear any brace.

[Comment From Adam Adam : ]
On paper, Gallo/Will/Fields don't match Melo's talent. But that doesn't take into account the reality and the momentum of the situation.

Alan:
And the momentum right now? 10 losses in the last 14 games and some serious concerns about the ability to raise their game to another level beyond the occasional upset on a given night. Carmelo gives you a second threat the opponent has to fear. Pick your poison: double him, double Amar'e? Mozgov could wind up with 5-6 dunks a game with all the running around the opposing bigs will have to do.

Which one of you dumbos is Adam, three or four mods/posters come to mind with this question

its not sexy in a press conference but its good money management in a small market

I think Kosmo posted in one of the Melo threads that it was actually accurate. So, Curry got paid upfront but if he has been paid for more games than have been played the T-Wolves have to give that money back to the Knicks or it counts as cash considerations. Basically the CBA doesn't allow a team to pre-pay for a player to be traded. So it would cost Minny some dollars, which is why they get Randolph + cash. -Jitpal

Two things.

1. As I recall from Kosmo's post, Curry's total cost was $5 mil with the trade kicker, with a certain percentage being recovered from the Wolves (Knicks can't pay a player to play for the Wolves). Now, someone with a machette (or the return of the RealGM search engine), can go verify that, but that's what I got from the post.

2. Even if the total cost for Curry was $3 mil, and NYK included $3 mil in cash, MIN is out the opportunity cost of using it elsewhere, with no downside (doing nothing means they have the same savings).

Zero savings (or -$2 mil) is not "smart money management" for any size market, especially with a team like MIN privately run by a milti-billionaire.

Finally, many recent NYK trades have MIN simply tossing in this exception for nothing (while Randolph is acquired for the UTA 1st). When the returns are so great for DEN ($20+ mil in savings) and NYK (I don't think you get Carmelo without the cap space), it doesn't seem realistic MIN is just going to toss it in for nothing.

My perspective is that a Deal doesn't get done till After the All-Star Game. Because if Melo is Traded now. It messes up the All Star Game roster. And i dont think the League wants to deal with that.
