I'm so glad we have Walsh as GM. He understands what it takes to build a contender and he isn't willing to part with guys that will make that happen like Gallo and Felton. Great job from Walsh. Melo or no Melo, he's doing the right thing. -Jitpal

Why? Give me one legitamite reason why we shouldn't take this thing to the deadline at the very least.

WAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I don't like to be that openly disrespectful of New Yorkers since I'm a knicks fan who's never lived in NYC for any extended time, doesn't have any family roots and actually lives in Chicago. But thank you for saying that. I wonder if any of these people have ever had a good negotiation. These posters seem like the kinda dudes who'd come to the table and just keep talking and talking, giving away everything about what's important to them and negotiate against themselves as long as you just sat there quietly and calmly.

kosmovitelli wrote:If it's true CAA scheduled the meetings with Prokhorov and Dolan then the writing is on the wall IMO. I'm pessimistic about the outcome. Melo's camp will tell Dolan there's a trade agreement with NJ so :
- either the Knicks accept to give the Nuggets what they want
- or Melo will accept a trade to NJ and sign the extension

Basically, either Dolan will overrule Walsh and pull the trigger himself or he will let Walsh make the decision and will probably resent Walsh and use that as an excuse not to renew Donnie's contract. Probably not this year. He may exercise the option on Donnie's contract for 2011-2012 but will let him walk in 2012.

Like I said yesterday, the Nuggets aren't amateurs. Melo's an amateur. The Nuggets and CAA played their cards well. They didn't schedule a meeting with GMs but only with owners. When push comes to shove, they know there's a good chance it won't be basketball decision but a pride decision. Dolan will probably refuse to let Prokhorov win. It will be an embarassment for him to let Melo go to NJ after he met him face to face. Remember how Dolan was upset after the "blueprint for greatness" billboard last summer. Meeting could end up a trap for the Knicks. If it was Walsh I wouldn't worry about it but with Dolan I think he will never let Prokhorov win and won't care if the trade costs us four starters and draft picks.

I can't agree more. People think Ujiri is some dumb rookie GM. No Kroenke put him in there as a figure head because he is not allowed to be the GM per his agreement with the NFL. Denver has done a good job of managing this situation and they clearly haven't caved to our low ball offers.

At the end of the day Melo is a 26 year old guy who is being handled by a bunch of greedy lawyers/advisers who care more about him signing that extension than anything else because that's how they get paid.

this is Hysterical

Assumption #1} Dolan and Walsh are working opposed to eachother not together
Assumption #2} Denver has the right to determine Carmelos future but if Carmelo tries then hes either an amateur or greedy
Assumption #3} After 6months of sticking to his guns Carmelo will cave in at the last sec and follow the money
Assumption #4} Carmelo's advisors and agents are ignorant and greedy but novice GMs and their staffs are not

Hes the truth:
fans are clamoring for info or rumors, sports writers and clamoring for something to fill pages

the Nets have been contacted by Denver in a last ditch hope to either get more than NY is offering or to get NY to offer more

There is no reason to believe, based on every quote from anyone not standing to benefit from Carmelo accepting an extension, that there will be a cap or franchise clause that will affect Carmelo in a negative way even if hes not exempt from it anyway by being a FA and grandfathered in.

Carmelo, unlike bloggers and fans, has inside knowledge of the players unions stance on impending CBA changes

Walsh and Dolan, unlike bloggers and fans, have inside knowledge of the Owners stance on impending CBA demands

Carmelo has never expressed any interest in playing for NJ, or anywhere else, and has never indicated that he would want to continue in Denver beyond saying hed look at all options.

At this point Denver has burned the Carmelo bridge along with the Billups and Nene bridges. They had long ago killed JR Smith as an option too.

dont let false story lines and impatience double with pessimism and create a pair of dueling worst case scenarios.

Steven A.

You are a no talent hack. You've never done anything of value. All you do is yell at the top of your lungs and make controversial statements. You are worthless to society. If it wasn't for nepotism, you would probably still be at McDonalds, flipping patties.

Another factor with Gallo is flight risk... remember, Gallo basically said he wouldn't come to the US unless he was drafted by the Knicks or Nets. If he is traded somewhere he doesn't want to be, who is to say he doesn't threaten to go back home to play? Now this is unlikely for monetary reasons, but with the likelihood that the new CBA will squeeze the salaries of non superstars, its not inconceivable that he would leave after next season.

Not sure if this is a factor at all but I thought worth considering...

Ok, so are two of three of Chandler/Gallo/Fields better than Melo himself? NO. THAT'S WHY YOU DO THIS DEAL. Felton & Billups are a wash and Curry doesn't matter...neither does AR. If not, be happy with being a mediocre team, Knicks

The whole idea of getting Melo is so that we don't have to depend on Gallo to become Melo, just a great 3rd option which his efficiency, intelligence, passing, smart defense, length and massive balls give him the ability to become pretty soon even. That's why you don't blow your load early and wait to get Melo at the price you want/need to pay, not the price Denver wants us to pay.

+1

We can afford to wait to take it to the limit at the deadline...

Not sure Denver can.... they have to have time to deal with Nene and other potential deals...

I think Denver will have to sh&t first. That is why we are seeing this desperation misinfo about the Nyets and the meetings etc. They need to put all their BS in one last canon shot, The Kroenke's are truly pathetic! I'm starting to feel sorry for Ujiri.... he is just a nice kid who is getting used by them.
