And what exactly is his system? He's consistently among the best defensive rated teams in the NBA and yet his teams, other than Howard, had about as awful a mix of guys as you can possibly want to play defense as you can get (see Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu, the long time running worst contract in the NBA, Bass, Reddick, Ryan Anderson, etc). He's coached 2 superstars and a pretty loaded team in Miami (Shaq...probably the most potent all around post player in NBA history...and Wade, Mourning, etc) and made that work. He's coached Dwight Howard (who's limited offensively beyond dunks...and yes...he is...no matter how often Patrick Ewing worked with him) and a bunch of basic crap in Orlando and made that work (and made them look good doing it).

His system is EXTREMELY well defined. Look at every game he coached in Orlando. No matter how much his roster changed, it was the exact same plays being run offensively and defensively.

????? Wasn't the problem, the reason, why Dwight Howard wanted out because that team couldn't change enough to add enough talent around him for him to be happy? So what change was there? The same plays? Their offense was Dwight Howard using mostly his physical prowess in the paint and one or two 3 point shooters...that's all they had. Whether it was Lewis or Anderson, it's the same ****. So what change did you want him to make? Try to make Anderson a post player? Try to make Jameer Nelson a real championship caliber true PG? When you have a post player that still relies more on his physicl tools than refined skills and a couple 3 point shooters, how many changes can you get?

Stan has said on the record a million times that he is all about numbers. The most efficient shot in the game of basketball is the 3 PT shot. If you shoot 44% on 2 PT shots & 30% on 3 PT shots...you are better off taking ALL 3 PT shots. That is of course, if you go by the numbers. Reality tells us differently. Stan lives in the numbers world...which is why when it comes down to crunch time or when the games really matter...his system falters and then he has no idea what to do.

The guy has won 48 playoff games in 6 trips to the playoffs and has a playoff winning percentage higher than most of the head coaches in the NBA's regular season percentage. So is crunch time some other time besides playoffs?

Are you really going to give him credit for defense? Come on man...we don't need to get in to this one.

So should we give any head coach any credit for any defense? No? So it was just all Dwight Howard standing there and everyone looking around watching him? So him being an assistant to Pat Riley obviously didn't teach him the importance of defense and how to go about getting his team to play defense?

To say Dwight is limited offensively outside of dunking tells me that you have not watched him in the last 4-5 years. The guy has a VERY well rounded post game. He is right handed...but even better at finish with the left in the post. He can post on either block. Spin either way. Use either hand. Has great hands. Passes well out of the double team. Great footwork. He still can't shoot...that is his only flaw on offense.

????? So he wasn't limited back in their Championship run vs. the Lakers? That was how many years ago? So he must have played that whole season like he jumped 4-5 years into the future? Is that right? Is that what you're trying to argue?

Spin either way? Dude...he's NOT THAT good offensive post player that you're making him out to be. Stop with the exaggeration about how good he is in the post offensively. We've all seen him play. The difference is we don't look at him with any homerish glasses. He's an absolutely great defensive player (one of the best) and obviously no one is saying he can't score (his stats obviously say he can score enough), but he could not score when they needed him the most is the one of the biggest reasons why the Magic as a team couldn't go all the way.

The team he took to the Finals had Nelson, Turk, & Lewis all playing at their peak. From that moment forward, we got consistently worse. Yet...Stan never made a single adjustment.

And why do you think they were all playing at their peak? For the love of grief give the poor guy some credit. He never made a single adjustment? Oh come on. So any old coach who don't make a single adjustment can win and go deep in playoffs? And when was the last time Nelson, Turkoglu and the other guy even remotely able to defend?

How can you possibly expect to win when everyone around you is getting better, you are getting worse, and you haven't changed anything your team does?

And that was his fault? So what he should have done is to take over Otis Smith's job? Smith was the one that buried the team in giant contracts that couldn't be moved (everyone that was mentioned). What did you want him to change? His overpaid PF? His ineffective PG? His lack of a real 2nd option...or...when it really counted...lack of a 1st option?

Is he Phil Jackson? NO!!! Has he won an NBA Championship? NO!!! But if it was that easy then wouldn't every head coach do it? You think?

And if you go ask fans of just about every team in the NBA what they think of their head coach you'll find that they'll think the other teams head coaches are better. It's natural. EVERY SINGLE HEAD COACH has weaknesses. Very VERY few of them have been able to win it all (in fact currently in the NBA there's only 3 that has...and one of them really just tagged along more than anything else...IF you listen to their fans). So does that mean every other team in the NBA (and in this BAT) is doomed?

I'm not sure you know who that dude is but I'm completely good w/ taking that risk especially considering Steve Hess' track record.

Kenyon double microfracture - a - ok
Nene torn ACL - a -ok

training staff seems like it would be part of the equation in this BaT.

Besides, I'm a slide Oden into the lineup VERY SLOWLY, like as in around or after All Star break in 10-15min/ game to check progress etc.

yeah but emeka only got 28 mpg last season and decreasing. oden is going to have to be ready to play 20+ unless you get a PF/C and/or move ibaka around

Yeah for a second there with the way Howards offense was being hyped I had to double check and make sure that maybe we were talking about someone else.

Oden has played a total of 82 games, there's still serviceable bigs out there that you don't have to worry about them breaking a knee when they trip.

Seems more of a brand name pick to me.

We're allowed to pick assistant coaches as our head coach right?

If so, I'm going to blow everyone away with my pick when it happens.

Anyone interested in Stan Van Gundy. Not that I agree with LBPT about SVG but just looking it over, not sure that he's the best guy for some of the players on my team (specifically my 2 trouble makers).

Willing to take any upcoming pick.

Well living here in Orlando and having 1st hand experience of the guy I'll say he's a good coach, won't make many adjustments and personally I think the only guy he'll clash w/ and throw under the bus (which is his forte) would be Williams simply because he won't coddle him.

I think Delonte West would love SVG cause Stan holds peeps accountable for their on court actions and Delonte sems like he loves a straight up shooter (LOL pun intended).

I truly don't believe he'd be the right coach for that team honestly though, simply because of the players skillsets.

Just curious...how many of you guys have won this before? How many past winners are in this B-a-T? Have you had any repeat champs?

nobody takes charge of finding the right system or enough judges.

nobody can agree on how judging should be done. this BAT shouldn't have started until we established a system.

in BAT 5, we had like 4 judges. that was pretty cool

edit: BAT 4 i think it was
