If Okafor is gone, I'd probably pick Winslow ahead of Manny and Towns for this Knicks team.
We really need Winslow.

Its so damn hard to guage Towns with this Kentucky team because of their depth. Today he only has 1 point and 2 or 3 rebounds but they didnt really need him as they're routing UNC

BUT look who again is outplaying Towns----his own teammate Willie Cauley-Stein. I think WCS has been very much overlooked by just about everyone.
Draft Express finally woke up and moved WCS from 9th to FOURTH! Finally!
Let's stop presuming Towns is the better player. I'm not so sure of that. WCS is surely having the better year!
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

Re: College Thread AKA Prospect Watch
I'm not really sure why you would be surprised that Stein is outplaying Towns, especially recently. He's averaging 28 minutes these past five games, putting in some work. Stein is very active, he's a good defender and has energy for days. I have no doubt that he's going to be good in the league, but he's not a pick that the Knicks need going forward. He's limited offensively, doesn't have the passing that Towns posses and lets not overlook the fact he's a Junior. He was considered a late lottery pick last year and he's improved his game dramatically thus far this year. I wouldn't say he's overlooked, he's just not what the Knicks need with a hypothetical top three pick.
Right now Stein is playing well, earlier this year Johnson looked very impressive. Towns had some good games, Lyles had some good games. This team is to good, especially up front. I look forward to see who gets Poythress minutes going forward, it can only help the front court.

WCS provides what the Knicks need most, superior interior defense. He might not be great offensively but he is SO good and versatile defensively that he will win you games, plain and simple. He guards 1-5 very effectively. The Knicks have no problem scoring at all but they clearly suck defensively which is the biggest reason they lose games. There are a lot of good scorers that you can get in free agency, but good defensive centers are very hard to find/paid near max contracts. I can think of maybe 10 good defensive centers in the NBA and they are all paid or going to be paid seven figures. I would still go with the consensus top 3 picks over him, but I would be totally fine picking him 4th or lower if that's where we end up.

Make no mistake about it, when we find out where our draft pick ends up the entire dynamic of the conversation changes. The consensus three is the consensus three, no matter the injuries or the playing time. After Okafor, Towns and Mudiay are off the board the draft will be very interesting.
WCS will probably be one of the main cogs of a Kentucky run in March Madness, that will do nothing but boost his draft stock. WCS brings the intangibles that I do think Phil would like, I think he would go WCS over Porzingis if were talking about a top six pick due to what you just said. We need some defense in the middle and looking at the draft only WCS, Turner and Harrell provide that when talking about lottery picks.
You look at WCS and would hope he could develop into our version of Noah, granted WCS doesn't have near the ball handling skills that Noah had at Florida and is likely never going to have it. The intangibles, the energy all general pest on the defensive end.
Picking WCS you just have to find someone else that can help on the offensive end because I don't see any scenario that Phil would want Amar'e back.

Porzingis > WCS. Don't think WCS is even in my top 10 or 12. He's a good defender with an INCREDIBLY limited offensive game. This team needs more than defense; we need talent.

There is no consensus three. Draft boards change every year. Embiid was like 10th among incoming freshman last year. Shabazz Muhammad was 1st the year before. Alex Poythress was mentioned in the conversation for the #1 pick the year before that, he isnt even a lock for a 1st rounder now. Mcadoo went undrafted last year, he was a lock for the lottery. These rankings are fluid. Im not sure I would take Towns over Turner at this point.

Embiid even from the start of the season though was the consensus keep an eye on this guy though due to his unlimited potential. The strides he made in one year were impressive, Wiggins might've taken all the buzz but it wasn't like Embiid was an guy that came from no where.
Bazz played himself out of a top pick from being suspended and to never passing the damn ball. Muhammad had about the worse year you can have and still was a lottery pick though.
Poythress was mentioned in conversation for about two games by one person, no one ever considered him at all. McAdoo had a ton of buzz coming out of high school but in three years he was more or less a bust for UNC. Didn't live up to any hype at all.
Your right that the rankings are fluid on paper, but there are years in which you know whose going to be the top pick.
- 2014 Wiggins vs Parker all year long.
- 2013 no one had a damn clue.
- 2012 it was the Davis, MKG and Barnes draft.
- 2011 it was the Kyrie draft even with the injury.
- 2010 Wall, Henry and Turner. Henry fell in the lottery.
You're right someone can there way into the top five, but honestly what dark horse can that really be? Thus far who would you consider?
Tyus Jones I guess can go the way of Conley Jr and really shine.
DeAngelo Russell? He's considered a lottery pick already.
I believe in the eyes of the GM's the gap between the main three and everyone else is huge. Don't pay attention to mocks, there absolutely useless this time of the year.

In a way yes, but we traded away a WCS that clearly moved on from this team. Once you check out mentally it's sort of hard to defend that guy. Chandler was a great get for Dallas because he gives a damn again.

I agree Id take Porzingis over WCS in terms of talent, hell even had him in a mock I did last year and was scoffed at. However not sure if I want Porzingis going forward when looking at the vision that Phil probably has for this team. Curious though, what would your top ten look like at the moment?

Stanley Johnson looks incredible today against Michigan, I know the Knicks have a SF, but this kid has a high ceiling and low bust rate... who knows what Towns could look like in a few years....

The Knicks need Okafor. The guy is going to require a double team in the post.
2 man game with Okafor and Carmelo would be epic.

Amare Stoudemire is regularly getting double teamed in the post and he's been absolutely phenomenal offensively.

Yep - top 3 better watch out for Stanley. He reminds of young Ron Attest with a dash of a young Chauncey Billions with the way he handles - passes.

I think it's more people hated Tyson's motor. If he brought what he did that year he won DPOY with us every night he'd still be a Knick and fans would see him as untouchable. WCS's motor is off the charts
