I would really like to know how true this is. Multiple reports kept saying the Knicks were one of few teams AD would sign an extension with. And if the Knicks knew for sure that AD would sign long term with them, then you have to trade for him. Trading for AD increase the Knicks chance of getting one or two out of 3 big free agents. I personally think he would have signed long term if the Knicks did added another all star player.

Nobody would get on us for waiting to convince the best player in the league and missing out on role players the way they would/should get on us for passing on the best player in the league for role players lol.

Pretty simple... best case scenario for blowing off the best player in the league for role players: you fill out your team with your first choice role players on 1 year deals (who’ll be gone in a year).

Best case scenario for waiting for a chance to sign the best player in the league: you sign the best player in the league and then you pick up whatever role players remain and make trades to get him help.

Worst case scenarios... not waiting: you definitely don’t get him and you definitely have a lotto team. Waiting: you don’t get him and you still have a lotto team with different bum role players (not necessarily any worse than what we got).

Who we trading for without getting fleeced? We getting Beal?! Lmao Beal & Whiteside to the rescue?! Blake Griffin?! Lol who?

And again, you’re assuming the role players we just signed will be gone next year when there’s 1 - a team option for them & 2 - a weak FA class

And you’re assuming we won’t challenge for bottom seed. That’s your assumption based on your horrible analysis of the players we signed with our young core. I don’t see it as such. That’s where we don’t have the same view on the situation. Understandable.

If Kawhi wants to be a Knick now ... today ... all we’d have to do is make room. It wouldn’t be hard. Knox, Frank, RJ would get you there. Or pay a Portis a little more to ship him with a pick to another team like LA, with another player.

On August 1 RJ is tradable. Easy really.

Why do some Knicks fans keep stressing that the way to the promise land is pursuing these top free agents. In Knicks’ history the only success came when we had one of our own draft picks raise up and take the mantle. It is amazing that R.J., who hasn’t even played a pro game yet, would be considered trade worthy. This is the reason the Knicks are not respected we are always chasing other people’s things... lol

The FO said it would not pay a ransom for players who were going to be FAs the following year. Thankfully, we learned our lesson from 2010. If AD really wants to come here, especially after one year in LA LA LAND, then great. That way (1) we don't give up anything much less a huge haul, and (2) we get this season to see how our kids have developed; who stays and who goes. Win-Win.

you can't complain about not waiting for kawhi, complain about not making deals for picks, complain that the knicks lost the top free agents to the nets because they were more competitive, and then complain that the knicks are now trying to compete. all those things are at odds with each other. you can complain about 1 of those things only. that's how this works. if you're complain about more than 1 you're being intellectually dishonest.

i think once kd got injured this whole thing fell apart. they figured, and i would say correctly, that with kd getting injured you would have to team him up with kawhi to contend now. kyrie and post achilles kd woudn't get it done anymore and they lost their taste for kyrie anyway with what he did in boston. bucher said kd wanted kawhi to come to the knicks and kawhi wanted kd to go the clippers. well that tells you right there he wasn't coming. if he wouldn't join kd in new york, he aint joining anyone else here. so they moved on.

I am trying to follow this conversation... should the Knicks improve by the draft or chasing rainbows (top free agents) that has NOT happened since in years! It’s like fans consider this shopping out of another man’s closet. It would be nice if you could backup what you are saying with FO evidence/sources. There is so much stories out there I just don't know what to believe as to why the Knicks weren't able to trade for AD. I had to go check again. All I'm reading is the Knicks didn't make a formal offer for Anthony Davis. Either they weren't willing to give up the necessary assets or they didn't have enough. Were they even willing to offer Mitch and RJ plus picks? If I had to guess base on what I'm reading, the Knicks were unwilling to do what the Lakers did to get AD. And getting 1 superstar could mean more will follow sooner rather than later.

And then he told the Knicks he'd give them a meeting on the 3rd. So he was at least going entertain the idea. It also meant KD would've waited to choose. And the Nets would've just been sitting on their hands already committed to Kyrie with the possibility of losing KD and also other free agents in the meantime.

THe smart move was to wait. Julius Randle isn't worth giving up on the off-season you prepped over 1 year for.
